Best wishes and 73, Alan Roe, Teddington, UK ** ANTARCTICA. 15475, March 10 at 2155, very briefly seems to be a signal here, not 15476, into Argentine SDR, LRA36? But then no trace either on another Arg SDR, surely funxional from waterfall. For this date had been publicized a 6-hour broadcast starting at 2100 on 15476 USB as via AER El Dial; see: http://radioclub.perche.free.fr/?p=11616 That page also linx to LRA36 audio archives, new to me: https://www.radionacional.com.ar/tag/lra-36-arcangel-san-gabriel/ However, soon after that went out on the WOR iog, Eduard in Moskva said he had been JB hearing it until 1600! Kari Kallio, Finland, was hearing something into Brasil at 2151 on 15474.90 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** ANTARCTICA. 15476 RC USB, March 11 at 2104, LRA36 is on with music, S6/S8 into Argentine SDR, as per further advance publicity of a 6-hour broadcast starting at 2100 this Saturday. Too much else is going on for me to monitor this continuously. 2207 interview via phone? There is constant humbuzz, which annoyingly surges during pauses: must have AVC in the circuit. 2221 RAE multilingual ID; 2223 voice of a YL listener with greeting; 2224 contact info; 2225 temp as 2.4 C, wind 38 kph. At 2227 I try for it direct but nothing yet. 2229 acknowledging a report from England. By 2309 it has become JBA direct! S3/S4 about equal to noise level. By 2346 during song it`s peaking S5. Direct path to here is mostly oversea, missing the western bulge of S America, crossing near Mexico`s narrowest part into the Gulf and of course, trans-Texas. Further east, the signal has to traverse the length of the South American landmass, including bouncing across the Andes, not helpful. But during this hour it`s widely reported across western N America. 2355 I`m back on remote for convenience; Morse code, YL calling CQ and ham news bulletin, efemérides; into March 12: 0003 credits, LU1ZV in Morse code. 0019 RAE multi-lang ID; 0020 ``sign-on`` canned announcement, scripted piece. Some of this is sounding very familiar, probably recorded repeats; like ``malvinazar``. 0116 starts a new program `Tranquilo Sur` about southern Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego. 0151 still JBA direct S3/S4. Back to remote, a different inferior one as the first one has unavailablized. 0210 LRA36 ID. 0257 speech before a laughing audience; 0302* off seemingly without a formal s/off (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** ANTARCTICA. Wolfgang Bueschel just reported March 14: ``15474.971 kHz (!) UNIDentified mx program, likely Argentine Antarctic 5 kW tiny LRA36 sce? rather strong S=7 at 2330 UT.`` Who says it`s 5 kW? March 15 at 0030 I also have it approx. 15475; 15474.97 into the one Argentine KiwiSDR working online. Only rock music so far, rather weak, on both LSB and USB but louder on USB, and a reduced carrier if sidetuned. Surprise Tuesday broadcast without any advance publicity? Maybe it`s the `new` transmitter no longer circa 15476. As soon as I press Send, ``RAE Argentina To The World`` ID at 0033, more music, rather distorted. Glenn, at 0036. Other reports: Doug White, KA5ETS: ``Just heard RAE Argentina al mundo ID at 0048. S7 into central NC. Using Airspy HF+ Discovery with 57 ft end fed antenna at 40 ft. Off, or no longer being heard here in NC by 0101`` gh: Not rechecked Arg SDR until 0113, off but: Something strange circa 15472/73, intermittent bits of electronic music or talk, very hard to pin down exact frequency, which seems to fluxuate with modulation {like a spur}, circa 0116. Then nothing to 0123. Glenn Horacio Nigro, CX3BZ, Montevideo at 0141: ``They've been doing tests on USB, LSB, including AM. I read of Korol asking for reports in our Whatsapp group. But I am not close to active radio monitoring, lately. Expect more tests coming besides regular sked already announced.`` gh: It`s on again with music from 1600 tune-in Wed Mar 15, 1608 RAE multi-lang ID, 15475 USB not LSB, only S3 into BsAs SDR. Is becoming so common now? 1618 phone tones, ``comunicad`` promo. Later chex: still at 1647; 1804 S5, 1820. Glenn. Other reports on WOR iog: Zach Liangas, Greece: ``More careful analysis shows AM mode with LSB part at quite lower level than USB (about 10 db) possibly like vestigial sideband. Song Eva at 1902 -92db`` Eric Fetters-Walp, Lake Stevens, Washington: ``At 2035 UTC, I found LRA36 on 15475 USB (at least it was heard best in USB) with a rock ballad, then an ID, into a rock instrumental with a male voice speaking during the song, another ID, then into a slow rock song with a singer who sounded at times like Tom Waits. The signal heard via the Montevideo, Uruguay, SDR suddenly went off the air around 2047. Here near Seattle, I could faintly hear the music directly, especially during the guitar peaks, but it was overall much worse than last Saturday's reception of LRA-36.`` Levi P. Iversen: ``Made it here to Norway too. Very weak but heard an ID at just past 2015 UTC on around 15474.97 kHz: "Transmite LRA 36 Radio Nacional Arcángel San Gabriel" Clear ID. Best in USB. Carrier off at 2047.`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** BRAZIL. 9665v, March 9 at 0612 & 0729, NO signal from R. Voz Missionária which is normally VG; nor from the only other 24h ZY on 31m, R. Nove de Julho, 9819.1, unusual coincidence. Checking since Gary Pence alerted me that both were missing even unto nearby Argentine remote, no 9819.1 at 0507, no 9665v at 0551. However a few hours earlier same date at 0213, Wolfgang Bueschel heard RVM on 9664.889 and 5940.020 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2181) ** BRAZIL. 11749.875, March 13 at 0649, presumed RVM, VP S4/S6 measured direct. Someone must have grossly mispunched the keypad and unlikely to land here again! What else is wrong? I copy for about 5 minutes: Split [Croatia]; Ancona-Falconara [Italy] = no report received; Thule; Ancona-F NRR; Ancona-F NRR. Terminal Forecasts: Zagreb NRR; Split NRR; Ancona-F; Thule NRR; At 0739 gives own time as ``0635z`` --- after years their own clock is still more than an hour off! Then Shannon, Prestwick, Keflavík; Lajes NRR... We can only hope that in matters of life-and-death, Canada`s military achieve a bit more accuracy. Jon Collins, Birmingham UK, was hearing Trenton on 6754 at 2345 March 10. Recheck here March 11 at 0039 UT: on proper 6754 USB, but ``time, 2335z`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) {incredibly, NASWA Flashsheet editor judged this item not worth mentioning} ** CHAD [non]. 9535, March 9 at 0613 after RHC should be finished, Hornish-of-Africa music, i.e. R. Ndarason International sked via Woofferton UK, S8/S9 with flutter (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CHINA [and non]. 15340, March 10 at 1622, Chinese talk and bit of opera, S9+10 with heavy flutter, no doubt CNR1 jammer * per Aoki vs Sound of Hope, Pingtung, Taiwan, relaying RFA at 0000-1703 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 6060, March 9 at 0735, S9+10/20 of dead air with some hum, the only RHC still running. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 11670, March 10 at 0637, RHC English S8/9+10 and sounding weaker // 11760 S9/+10. Only remaining // is much louder 6000 at S9+20/30. All the 49mb frequencies are off. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 11760, Sunday March 12 at 0705, RHC is still on here, and nowhere on 6 MHz band, in Esperanto, now moved one hour earlier for the next octomonth, since as a running dog of Yanqui Imperialism, Cuba has just gone on EDT to match Miami. At 1458 recheck, 11760 with a local timecheck as 10:58 = UT -4 instead of -5. 13700, March 12 at 1500 UT ex-1600, the next repeat of Esperanto confirmed also earlied an hour, including this extra frequency still going at 1510 in addition to 11760, the only one on the imaginary opening announcement, and to 15140 which has really been // for years. The clueless Esperantists claim it`s Sunday at 0800 on 6100, where it rarely appeared, and at 1600 on 11760, only. The third airing is even more iffy, having shown up on different frequencies at 2130 instead of 2230 or 2330; will it now be 2030? Something`s always wrong at RHC. English broadcasts are expected to appear one UT hour earlier now, starting with 1900, on 15140 at least. Except to ``Africa`` at 2200 in winter normally changes backwards to 2300 in summer. Has been on 11880 extremely unreliably. All needs to be confirmed by monitoring, but everything is tentative. 15140, March 12 at 1900, yes, ``news`` in English already underway into Missouri; no signal on 11760. But 15140 dumps to dead air at 1930, carrier off circa 1935. Then bandscan finds no other RHCs on 11, 13, 15, even 17 MHz. But by 1949, 13680 is on with music, and French (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13680, Sunday March 12 at 2144, RHC on here in Spanish, // much stronger 11760. Not Esperanto. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 15140, March 14 at 1900-1915, checking for RHC English at earlied time, but: no signal here nor on 11760. Thus we may conclude that WORLD OF RADIO times on WRN to NAm --- plus Asia, Africa, Pacific, remain the same until UK go on BST in two more weeks, when nonsensically, NAm service will shift to match what had been their lineup by standard time here (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** EGYPT. 9439.995, March 14 at 2206+, R. So many bullets were flying that despite the long odds, some bullets were found to have collided with each other. 2349 music; 2353 s/off, IS to 2356* uncovering the CCCCCCI which was JBA before. BTW, at 2350:45 my chair tremored a bit, but does not make the USGS EQ registry of mag 2.5+ (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, WOR) {but there was a 3.4, 102 km west of Adak at 2346; hmmm...} ** TURKEY. 5960.005, March 14 at 2300, VOT opening English, S9+25/35 into UTwente, plenty signal for max bandwidth in AMsynch of 13.53 kHz, but news still sounds lo/fi telco quality: GIGO. At least is on air today; you never know whether it shall be. Something`s always awry at Ankara and/or erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960.015, March 15 at 2320, VOT English is on with songs, S9+30/45 into UTwente. Loud modulation, light distortion, and very strong but rather deep fades at furst and not hearing much CCCCCCI. 2328-2340 `Weekly Commentary` starts later than usual, read by hard-to-understand accented woman, about cultural heritage affected in earthquake regions. Now with no music I can hear the XJPBS understation. 2340 right into next feature theme, `Feeling Supreme/The Healing Spring`, with the better-accented YL, remedies for headache, migraine, until 2347; music; 2351.5 multi-lingual ID filler reel. 2354 s/off of 1330, 1930 and 0400 broadcasts only, NOT ever mentioning this one. 2355 IS looping. 2356 pause and restarts with German IDs embedded. ``Hier ist die Stimme Türkiye`` twice per minute. I soon have it loud and clear, S7 into Missouri SDR at 1623. Off at 1628 after some sitcom theme. 1630 back on, so don`t give up if not there at first. Many more interruptions. After a bit of dead air, transmitter autoturns off, it seems. And cuts back on abruptly. Why don`t they just let it run? By the way, NBFM is lo-fi, nothing like hi-fi WBFM. Rough times of breaks included: 1628-1630, 1639-1641, 1649-1652, 1656-1658, 1727-1730, 1741-1744, 1754-1757. Mostly hyper hosts with fluff, including 1738 remote about the art of drumming; 1744 gushing about fashions at AcadAwards. Hour before and after 17 UT is ``Good Day``, local show not from KOVR 13 itself but CW31 on their 13.3 subchannel; see sked at 10-11 am PDT so for another hour: https://www.cbsnews.com/sacramento/program-guide/ `Good Day` on & off lasted until 1800. Back on at 1803 with obviously off-mike, not on air talk, then meteorologist Tracy Humphrey rehearsing? Or doing more than one take of segment recording for later on CBS13, ``try it again``. Heavy snowfall at higher elevations, then flooding expected. For during the CBS13 Noon News at 1900-1930, when 26110 may be back on. Also audible direct at S7/S8 until another stop at 1811* and during lunch I don`t monitor further. Still off at 1843+, and never back on after 1900. The substation audio of `13.3` heard before 1800 was KMAX-TV = CW 31 really on RF 24 per rabbitears.info, but which shows KOVR 13-3 carrying Dabl instead. A few times both remotedly and directedly I scanned 25.8-26.5 MHz without encountering any other such activity (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. ``Glenn, regarding the KOVR feed on 26110: They are obviously feeding the output of the production control room, rather than the actual on-air complete mix. The breaks in audio you hear are where the commercials go, inserted elsewhere. This is also why you heard the weather insert being recorded. It would appear the transmitter powers down after a certain amount of silence. Using the production control room feed (minus commercials) for IFB was pretty standard in the days when a radio link was used. However, in the early days of digital cell phones being used for this purpose, my station discovered that long periods of silence on the line would cause the call to drop, so we started sending the commercials down the line as well to keep the call active.
