FRANCE as scheduled this hour, into African and Maryland SDRs. Ivo
Ivanov, Bulgaria, who monitors a lot of TDA/RTA, found the Issoudun,
FRANCE relays on 6050, 7295, 9535 between 04 and 06 UT Sept 21, also
missing, but own site Béchar on air, 7200, 9450, but not Ouargla
either. I often run across 9620 in my 06-07 UT monitoring but don`t
log it. Inside-Algeria usage is very hit-and-miss, but presumably the
France relays are soon to stop, if not already. See

nothing until *1453, LRA36 cuts on with VG signal during song, and
another before 1500.6 usual sign-on routine I`ve detailed many times
before, 1502 Esperanza themesong; 1505.6 brief poetic discourse;
1506.7 percussive song; 1511 ID and `live` YLs into the 20th or 21st
program of the season, something about Día del Maestro and school #38?
at the base. Now I`m sure this is playback of Wed Sept 14 show and
altho I might garner a few more details this time, I am about to quit
-- just when, after geo coördinates are cited, it dumps off the air
already at 1513.6*. Still off at 1540 and typically not expected to

** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, Wednesday September 21, a good thing I
tune in Argentine SDR early, for at 1431, LRA36 is already on with
rockmusic, peaking S7. Gary Pence says they started at 1428. 1436
official sign-on, 4-language advisory, staff names; 1438 Esperanza
themesong; 1441 poetic recitation; 1443 song about primavera: they are
already celebrating spring tho no equinox really until UT Sept 23 at
0103, or 0104 depending on which reference. 1447 ``su compañía`` ID
and into live YL chat, on 22nd program of the 2022 cycle; a ``día muy
especial``. Guests in studio, chicos from the secondary school; 1450
male voice gets to read history of base; weather hard to copy, but
maybe minus 5 and winds 55 kph; 1453 phone numbers and all the other
contact info; acknowledges someone from Jujuy and callers on the air;
1455.5 music under up to full; 1501 student talking about history;
lots more chat I don`t try to copy, 1525 song; 1545 primavera song;
1604 ID with staff names again, ``nos une`` and off. But 1606 back on
for a few seconds of song, off again and no more by 1631 when the SDR

** BRAZIL. 15189.89 approx., Sept 19 at 2353, JBA S2/S3 Portuguese,
obviously the always off-frequency and always very weak only ZY left

** CANADA. 248 kHz MCW, Sept 21 at 0624 UT, dash and WG, 1000 watt ND
beacon at Winnipeg MB. Audible despite storm noise from Kansas, and
little else. Will certainly miss WG when decommissioned April 20,
2023, per August CIDX Messenger; however not flagged as such in
dxinfocentre.com beacon list (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA [and non]. 1010, CFRB, reply from Karl Zuk to my reports:

``Hello Glenn: Regarding CFRB 1010 --- I live 45 miles due north of
New York City and WINS is supposed to be a dominant 50 kW signal. I am
supposed to be within the WINS nighttime primary coverage area.
CFRB and WINS battle each other every night - Always have - Always
will. I can usually null both of them apart to listen, but this can't
be done with an omni-directional car radio.

Why this allocation was ever permitted, I don't know. As far as I can
tell, CFRB simply stays on day pattern 24/7. For all intents and
purpose - especially for casual listeners - no one would seriously
listen to this maniacal mix.  

I have a family home in Central Michigan near Bad Axe. Here it is CFRB
dominant on 1010 days. At night, if you listen carefully and null - it
is not hard to log WINS underneath CFRB. They should be thought of as
the Gemini twins of 1010 kHz. What fun.

What I miss is WINS HD Radio. It was a fun experience when WINS used
to lock in with HD digital. All the co-channel scramble would
instantly disappear - leaving WINS in the clear and hi-fi - but it
rarely held on for any amount of time - day or night. Thanks for

Andy Reid: ``In Peterborough, ON, Newstalk 1010 is totally
unlistenable after dark because of WINS. 1010 was (is?) a Canadian
clear channel. I read in the past that WINS had to seek special
permission to use the frequency. It should never have been allowed if

off, from one of the Canadian CG stations in Newfoundland or vicinity,
but trouble is none scheduled at this overnight gap hour in

3000 watts from Placentia, scheduled at 0737, but maybe that means
during standard time so a real hour earlier during DST? Anyhow glad to
be hearing something here again after a long noisy summer, now abating
somewhat. Checked 2749 USB first but nothing there: from Nova Scotia

** CANADA. 6754 USB, Sept 15 at 0626, CHR Trenton Military, still the
same set of ``No Report Received`` as much earlier on 15034 USB ---
looping that for hours and hours? At 0628 UT cited time as ``0625
zulu``! Then NRRs from: Comox, Victoria, Vancouver, Shearwater(? maybe
misheard as that`s Halifax). Fortunately we still have Gander
funxioning properly with same announcer, broader non-military airports
on 6604 USB.

** CHINA. 13530, Sept 15 at 1449, Chinese S5 vs CODAR S9 peaks, i.e.
CNR1 jammer against Sound of Hope. Also weaker S4/S5 on 13130 & 13020,
the usual trio. This time I patrol all WOOB ranges between 7.9 and
16.1 MHz and do not hear a single other one, not even as JBA carrier.

** CHINA [and non]. 13809.946, Sept 17 at 1525, two signals few Hz
apart making a LAH, the stronger one in Chinese, likely the CNR1
jammer vs RFA Mandarin via TAJIKISTAN scheduled this bihour (Glenn

** CUBA. 6140, Sept 15 at 0632, JBA carrier, no doubt leapfrog mixing
product of RHC English 6060 over 6100 another 40 kHz beyond. 6060 is
S9+10/20 undermodulated, 6100 is S9+20/30 with only a trace of
modulation. Nothing detected on 6020 for reverse leap.

6230, Sept 15 at 0635, RHC English JBA on leapfrog mixing product of
6100 over 6165 another 65 kHz beyond; 6165 is S9+30. 6035, JBA
carrier, which would be reverse leap of 6165 over 6100 another 65 kHz
below.

5955, Sept 15 at 0637, JBA carrier, which would be leapfrog mixing
product of 6165 over 6060 another 105 kHz beyond. Nothing detected on
6270 which would be revere leap of that. All this is happening at
Bauta site. 6000, if it were still on, would not be participating as
it`s from Quivicán. The Other Side:

** INTERNATIONAL ATMOSPHERE [non]. News of hurricane Fiona hitting PR,
blacking out entire island, leads me to the Hurricane Watch Net on
14325 USB, via Boca Ratón FL SDR: NCS heard at 1956 is N2PRD. Sept 18 
at 2043, current NCS W2NNU.

Apparently changes NCS each hour? At 2100 it`s K5WAN declaring that
this is a ``directed net`, i.e., follow the orders of the NCS. Reads
latest warnings from National Hurricane Center in Miami: seemingly
repeating every few minutes, or maybe with slight updating. Too much
else is going on Sunday afternoons for me to render this my undivided
attention. Periodically calls for anyone from PR or vicinity to check
in but never heard any. Is that a positive or negative result? Glad
SDR has squelch, never needed for broadcast monitoring. 2205, partial
NCS call as --WCN. 2306 fluent but slightly accented Spanish versions
of NHC notices. Not much heard later, maybe net QSY to 40m by 0000?

phrase. Listed is VIRI in Arabic from Sirjan at 1430-1730. HFCC shows

in their local sunset enhancement, better waterfall with visible audio
besides the usual JBA carrier then it took a deeper fade that seems to
be common that I have run across in my MW DXing. I Recorded a little
and no side splatter directly on the sides, around 0428z Sept 20,
2022. Every time I have checked 846, a thin line showed up on the
Kiwi, so to my amazement I was surprised to see some modulation in the
waterfall and could hear it a little better. After about 10 minutes,
the big fade hit. To really explore this sunset enhancement, I need to
start listening just before sunset around 0345z or sooner until their
sunset around 0428z. I read a story how somebody in Hawaii had

there could still be any DX propagation in the middle of our night on
16 m? Yes, the two OSOB Talata relay frequencies as better heard

** OKLAHOMA. 1600, Sept 21 at 2120 UT, looking for some tolerable AM
band music to nap by, I try KUSH in Cushing, but there`s a talk show
instead! Seems to be MOR, not Biden-bashing like everything else in
OK. 2129 still ID as ``Oklahoma`s Americana Station`` and 2130 back to
Bloomberg Radio, ``Sound Off`` show, giving its frequencies in some
major markets, 99.1, 1130, 106.1, 960, and Sirius XM 119, but no
mention of 1600 or KUSH! NRC DX News of August 30 reported:

``KUSH OK Cushing — Format to C&W (ex-C&W/OLD) (StIntel)`` -- The
`OLD` was ``Americana``, a rather rare format which made KUSH worth

** ROMANIA. 9700, Sept 18 at 2356, RRI IS S7/9+10 into Boca FL SDR
until 2357.6*, so presumably my unID OC, 48+ hours ago, concluding RRI
Spanish hour via Tsiganeshti. People keep misspelling it ``Tiganesti``
without the necessary diacritix for which I substitute fonetikaly thus

** SOUTH CAROLINA [non]. 9980, Sept 16 at 1453, blasting S9+20/30
signal from WWCR-4 with really nice bluegrass banjo hymn about
Calvary. I axually pause to listen to TOMBS for a change, followed by
another bluegrass thru ToH with no talk at all except WWCR ID overlay.

gospel huxter cut off at 0129.5 for ID, and some beeps before WOR:
7730, S9+10/20; 5850, S9/S8 both into Maryland remote. Once again BBB
steps on my last few words of closing at 0159, with two canned ID
sequences in a row.

Also confirmed, UT Friday September 16 at 0330 on WRMI 7780, S9 but
noisy into Maryland SDR, way off SW azimuth. But plays to conclusion
without overlap at 0159.

Also confirmed Friday September 16 at 1430 on WRMI 9955, S8/9+10
direct, no jamming.

As expected on the third Friday of the month WOR confirmed NOT on IRRS
7290 or AM Italia 1323, at 1815 UT September 16. In past this hour has
been pre-empted for `Station of the Cars` rock music -- never shown as
such on the NEXUS-IBA program schedule -- but not this month. Missed
start of show with name, monitoring via nearby Noale SDR, on 1323 but
which also gets 7290 from Bulgaria, vs heavy storm noise around NE
Italy, as always?? 918 kHz is not on this time. Feature Story News, UN
News and various other filler fragments 1800-1815 & 1844-1900 are not
on either this week. 

At first, 1323 is way under Romania`s minority service in German. The
IRRS show is some Christian discussion, pro-Jesus, anti-one-World,
etc. Gives address in Troy MI 48007. 1831 Diabetes PSA from Ad Council
involving reverse speaking; maybe changing sources now, mentions
American Prospect, and ID for 90.1, WUSB Stony Brook, LINY, time as 6
pm Tuesday, music fill; 1842 `Off the Wall` starts, leftish political
discussion by hackers, pre-primary or runoff of 8/23. See

interjexions among WTO, ``gotta pay attention, vote `em out``, but
first subject not so political, all about ancient recording methods,
i.e. cutting and stamping disc records. He has some old gear to do
that. 0004, ``extremely analog here``. CBC somewhere proudly has a
brand-new state-of-the-art-totally-digital facility. Says he is in
Master Control, guess that means Monticello rather than DeLand of Fla.
Angela sounds like she`s remote on a phone. Recheck at 0030, about fun
of kit-building. His father used to get him a new Heathkit as soon as
school was out in the summer. Missed the rest; did anyone overhear any
signif info about station ops? Per twit a few hours earlier, he
predicted this would be on 3265 besides the usual 3; could not hear it

politix; fill? Or UBMP? It still shows as 23-24 UT tho it would be a
neat trick to run that and CCR at same time 2330-2400 as still on the
never-up-to-date program schedule, with all EDT conversion times
mislabeled as EST. Did not check at 2300, since last week, the real
semi-UBMP repeat had been replaced by a new gospel huxter (Glenn

** U S A. 9330.15v, Sept 21 at 2119, WLCR/WBCQ is OFF also at this
daypart; still scheduled to be aiming English right at me. Ivo Ivanov
thinx it`s only a 50 kW transmitter, not 500, but how does he know?
The last we heard it was the SuperStition 500, off-frequency because
it had to be run by an old substitute driver (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 15770, Sept 17 at 1522, NO signal from WRMI-9. Propagation
may be degraded but surely at least a trace if on. 15825 WWCR is JBA
carrier, which is normal without Es. 1830 recheck via Maryland SDR,
still definitely NO 15770 - a major loss with variety of programming.
Nothing about this on disgraced FB. Ops normal otherwise, at 1849
confirmed on into Maryland SDR: 9955, 9455, 9395, and JBA carrier on

** U S A. 5800, Sept 20 at 0640, S7/S9 of dead air, must be WRMI, but
#10 is now scheduled to quit 5800 at 0400, while #4 is also labeled
5800 but 24/7 of blank. Running 100 kW units after hours must be bad
for the power bill, or maybe there is some reason for testing (Glenn

** U S A. 5800, Sept 21 at 0608, WRMI is ON with TOMBS, S9+20 // 5850
but 5950 is off. 5800 had been cut back until 0400* but last night was
heard after 0600 with dead air. Maybe something to do with cash flow
from TOMBS? Skedgrid still dated Sept 9 still shows it only until

** U S A. 5970, Sept 18 at 0639, RCM, WEWN still silent. Steven Luce
replied Sept. 16: ``Glenn, regarding WEWN on 5970: I did several
checks between 12 and 14 UT September 16, and it appears they are on
5970 continuously during that time span. Carrier cut at 1356; quickly
retuned to 12050 and found the IS already going. Nothing from WEWN on
5970 at a check just before 1100. I have not been hearing WEWN on 5970
during checks around 0300. I did hear them signing on at 0000 a couple
of weeks ago; might be worth checking 5970 during the 00 to 03 time
span to see if they have kept some of the evening schedule on SW.

There they go again. Since 3215 & 5890 are off overnight weekdays,

Bet it`s WKVQ, Eatonton, Georgia, still/again way off frequency as I

swirshes peaking S8. Could not stay awake past 0700 to check 8620 and
the other set of frequencies, but Ron Howard reports from California:

into monologue in Bislama. Checking from 0940+, found RV had gone off
the air; no signal heard on any of the past or current frequencies!``

previously or recently employed second harmonix. Gary Pence agrees,
after Ron Howard found 8620+ disappeared during Sept 16. But now we
need to do exhaustive continuous band searches before and after 0700
in case it have jumped to a totally new constellation (Glenn Hauser,

** VANUATU. 7932+, Sept 18 at 0636, still no signal from R. Vanuatu.
In the continuing absence of RV, note that a fundamental long
registered in HFCC but unused, is 2485, 10 kW at 10-19 UT. Some very
interesting possible harmonix of that, worth checking even before
1000: 4970, 7455, 9940, 12425, 14910, 17395 ...

Ron Howard reported: ``VANUATU[non-log]. 8620+, Radio Vanuatu,
checking 0830+ UT, no signal heard on any of the past or current
frequencies! We can only hope that they are working now on repairing
the xmtr! Yesterday (16th) I did some extensive scanning of various
frequencies after 0940+, when I found they were off the air, thinking
perhaps they had jumped to another frequency, but did not find them!``

finds nothing: need to be more persistent like Ron Howard, same

``Strange happenings! On 7932, happen to hear Radio Vanuatu for maybe
10-15 seconds before cutting off at about 0522 UT. Seemed they were
maybe working on repairing the xmtr without attempting to correct the
situation of being off frequency? Went to randomly check 8620+, after
0559 UT; yes, at about 0653 they came on with Island music for maybe
another 10-15 seconds; checked after 0653 for a straight hour, but
they never came back at all. Today heard for probably less than 30
seconds! Ron, Asilomar State Beach, Calif. (near Monterey), Etón E1,

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, Sept 21 at 0617+,
first time in months such a panoply this late due to latening Euro
sunrises: checked 1044 first and there it is, far too late for
Ethiopia as I recently hypothesized circa 0300. 

But this is still too early for any TPs beyond 846, and unusually,
Kiritimati is missing even tho it`s Wednesday, not Sunday. Gary Pence
agrees, Sept 21: ``846 kHz no show --- sure enough, I tried checking
early and thru the nite but it was a no show. NH6XO [SDR Hawaii] is a
great place to check since Kiritimati is 1353 miles almost due south,
where his antenna is north/south 220 ft unterminated Beverage. 73s and

In total, not in the order tuned; (2) indicates at least two carriers
beating; (3) at least three: 531, 558, 621, 639, 684, 693-, 729(2),
774(3), 847, 855(2), 1044, 1098(2), 1107, 1116, 1305; 1710 = NAm
pirate? Method is 9 kHz steps in USB at 1 kHz below the channels.

These are likely from Spain/Algeria/Morocco; even when some of the
Spaniards are lower powered than biggies insolated further east. 693
is perceptibly low, judging from pitch tuned to 692 USB. MWOffsets
shows the only one fitting, as of 8 years ago! ``692.9921 RNE Radio
