Kiribati, London; amid 9-kHz-step bandscan of entire MW, this is the only signal: still too late for Eurafrica and/or no higher-latitude propagation. WRTH suggests the power of RK is 10 kW. For this season, I remind everyone that this part of far-flung Kiribati is so far east that it`s at similar longitude to Hawaii, even tho local time is UT +14! on the west side of the flexible dateline instead of UT -10. https://www.gaisma.com/en/location/london-ki.html is misleading since ``base`` times are displayed as UT+12, i.e.. the western part of Kiribati! It shows today`s sunset as 19:33 local, which would be 0733 UT, instead of 0533! And so close to Equator at 2 degrees N that it varies only 29 minutes over the course of a year from 19:14 to 19:43. But for ``London`` it shows the long. as 157-46-48 EAST which is way wrong, really per further research: 157-28-30 WEST. Compare to Honolulu: 157-51-29 W. But above gaisma info is still one hour wrong! Perhaps confused by non-existent DST. This reference has it right: https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/kiribati/kiritimati with LSS at 18:33 local minus 14 hours for UT = 0433!!! 846 signal eastward should start propagating somewhat before then. BTW, I may never have pulled any modulation from this, let alone an ID. I believe those on west coast who get it even more easily have noted deficient modulation levels. It would be interesting to sit on 846 and note when carrier first appear. As sunrises laten in Europe, those could confuse things: except the greatest European is 3 kW from Ireland per WRTH; beyond that, 100 kW in RSA, 20 in Saudi, 50 in Iran, 20 in UAE, most likely beyond sunrise earlier. Later in our nights, of course, there will be plenty of other Pacificasians propagable on 846, so DXing this ASAP is advisable. Those capable of DFing, which you can`t do with fixed antennas no matter how high-gain and fancy, obviously, rather than a plain old loop or ferrite DX-398, might find 846 more interesting as a pilot to upcoming DU DX condx. From Enid it`s about 253 degrees at 4500 miles, while Sydney far beyond is close to same angle, about 250. Thus the 846 signal should null about 163/343. Much depends on how heavy the accent of various voices: the anchorette is bestte, sorta mid-Atlantic. I guess Nigerians can cope with English variously accented depending on the original native language. Nigeria is now the only African country even attempting an external SW service in English, so VON should be valued, treasured - disregarding egregious Egypt. What? We already have SW stations on 93.7 and 94.3. KJKE rimshots OKC from Newcastle which is closer to Norman and hardly has a solid signal here, but the QRM is not heard before. Finally, a ``Triple Play Sports Radio`` slogan. Which is on KOSB 105.1 Perry, KOKP 1020 Perry and KOKB 1580 Blackwell. Make that Quadruple? WTFDA FMDB shows this is not in SW but the FM side of further 1580 KOKB Blackwell, a mere 250-watt translator, K227DK. Yet it`s almost as strong as KJKE, a bit of tropo boost? Note distances below. Make that Quintuple, as they have another translator in Stillwater itself, which I don`t hear, 93.1 K226CW with only 170 watts; and which they hardly need with near-local signals from the Perrys. Not that I care, but while normally simulcasting, they can split three-ways when stupid ballgames are simultaneous in the three towns, such as Friday night HSFB? Not that I care about country KJKE getting QRMed; I just do care about one more impediment to real FM DX. We can ID lots of languages without speaking or understanding many of them, by their `sound` and/or key words in IDs for ``this is``, not always literally translated, e.g. Russian, govorit = speaks. Between the WRMI ID and WOR, Jeff White`s voice intrudes: ``But now the world is in turmoil``! Yeah, so? WORLD OF RADIO 2153 monitoring: Confirmed Tuesday August 30 after 2230 on WRMI 9955, S9/+10 atop lite Cuban pulse jamming, which starts to build up by 2253 prior to R. Libertad, but WOR still readable to conclusion. We are so proud to be so worthy of ineffective jamming. Also confirmed Tuesday August 30 at 2330 on WRMI 9395, S9/+15 into Maryland SDR, much better than S3/S4 into Georgia. Also confirmed Wednesday August 30 at 2122 the 2100:21 on WBCQ 7490 minus 71 Hz = 7489.929 into Maryland SDR, S9/+10. Next: 0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW {confirmed} 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html A noncommercial service for which financial support is appreciated to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702, by money order or check on a US bank. Or via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to woradio at yahoo.com New WOR 2154 should be ready early UT Friday September 2 for download and first SWBC at 0130 on WRMIs 5850 & 7730 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. (7489.9v), Aug 27 at 0000, WBCQ webcast of `AAAWWW`, first interjexion is ``what?!``. Then ``the not-so-jolly roger``, plugging as the ``last bastion of free speech``; and finally, ``carbon`` near end of William Tell Overture. Goes right into playing some song about the good old AM radio, analog days. Sounds like a non-rerun, live from Florida. Meanwhile, I check Maryland SDR: also // but not synch on 6160-, 5130-, but nothing on 3265+. By 0009 already, he can`t help but blame Democrats for BCQ needing money; and FBI for screwing up elexion, huh??? Suspend. And he seems to be justifying storming of the Capitol. ``Aren`t you glad we haven`t been on the air for a while, folx?`` He doesn`t like any government involvement in broadcasting, such as NPR, VOA. Near end someone on email complains about all the politicking, sorry, he says. Free Radio Weekly just in but only mentions names of a few stations reported before prayer and finishing (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9330.185V, Aug 27 at 2222, WLCR/WBCQ is S9/+10 in English, and slightly wavering, furthest off-frequency yet. I`m no expert on transmitters or their drivers, but what I don`t get is why they don`t come with ``fine-tuning`` capability, just like receivers. Of course someop would still have to be responsible for keeping them zeroed. Or why not AFC = automatic frequency control? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9330v, Aug 28 at 1415, WBCQ/WLCR is OFF. What`s the problem now? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 7489.9, Aug 28 at 0020, the Akron guy from Summit Radio with his `Cruisin` the Decade` show on WBCQ. i.e. during one hour, 10 songs from each of the past 10 decades. He talx a lot about them too and really seems to know his subject, but limited to the narrow genre of US pop music, apparently. At 0032 says he`s on 20 stations, mostly AM & FM including CKLB-FM 101.9 in Yellowknife N[W]T, which WTFDA FM database shows as a 234-watt aboriginal station, ``The Voice of Denedeh`` with a country [sic] format; and also with long-range coverage via SW, Channel 292 in Germany, the WBCQ ``mega-transmitter`` [sic] in Maine, and WRMI; and greets some listeners who heard him on each. 0035 plays a song from 1982y and reaches the current decade by 0053 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. (7489.9v), Sun Aug 28 at 2300, WBCQ webcast plays fill music instead of Harry Shearer`s `Le Show`. I usually listen to it here, staying tuned after `UBMP`, at least when CBS TV `60 Minutes` be in summer repeats like now, and/or late due to stupid ballgames running over, like, now: why in the world don`t they have SBGs *start an hour earlier?! Anyhow there are plenty of other options. Per http://publicradiofan.com/cgibin/program.pl?programid=60 it`s on several PR stations at this very same hour: I click on the last one of them, WUWF, and there he goes! Beware tho, PRF is so huge that keeping everything uptodate is nigh impossible. Then thru that I link to show website, where one click gets the latest podcast going https://harryshearer.com/le-shows/august-28-2022/ which I employ to get the first part I had missed on `BCQ (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9330v, Aug 30 at 1533 and 1941, no signal from WLCR/WBCQ. What`s the matter now? When on it sounds OK besides never being on-frequency (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 15770, Aug 29 at 0121, S6/S7 of dead air, the SSOB way stronger than 15720 NZ, 15230 Cuba and hardly anything else. Has to be WRMI-9 failed to turn off at 2400*. Something`s odd at Okeechobee. Ahem, WOR playback could make use of that (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5850, UT Mon Aug 29 at 0154, WRMI with `Viva Miami`, Jeff & Thaïs talking Spanish about Guadalajara and the Mexican DX Meeting at the end of July; apparently they did not attend. Richard Lemke also happened to hear this. Per skedgrid, VM at 0145 UT Mon is supposed to be on 5010 from System D, with something else on 5850 from System F. Just another contradixion there (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5085, UT Sun Aug 28 at 0036 & 0054, still no `Theater Organ Under the Arch` as supposedly scheduled around 0030 on WTWW-2, rather a ham YL with Q&A such as, should I ever climb a tower alone? NO (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9475, Aug 28 at 1545, NO signal from WTWW-1, once prime time for Sunday morning disservice by passé Pastor Pete Peters. So is this transmitter totally out of air, nor 5830 evenings? Nor have I run across WTWW on 9940 lately, whichever #transmitter that may have been, the ``Ukraine`` service ``Voice of Freedom``, which also sometimes used to be referred to on 5085 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9940, Aug 29 at 0138, gospel huxter in English, S9+50/55 WTWW blasting in: as soon as I mention not having heard 9940 lately, there it is; nothing about Ukraine. Is this #1 or #3 transmitter? Could be #1 as 5830 is absent; while #2 is rocking as usual on 5085 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5970, Aug 30 at 0619, R. Católica Mundial, WEWN is absent; normally all-night here, and all-day on 12050. Yes, that confirmed at 1942 check, but they are two separate transmitters (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5970, Aug 31 at 0646, WEWN Spanish is AWOL again tonight. Have not checked whether viable earlier in evenings; is it? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9275, Aug 30 at 2132, NO signal from WMLK, supposedly sked until 2200; propagation is poor, but neighborly neighbor WINB at a fraxion of rated power manages S4/S5 on 9265. Something`s broken at Bethel? 9275, Aug 31 at 1837, WMLK is on, what else? Deceased EJOM yammering about Yahweh, but only S6/S8 into Maryland SDR, too weak to overcome the noise level; and remarkably off-frequency for a brand-new super?power transmitter: plus 9 Hz slightly varying: calibration OK compared to 7850 CHU, and 10000 WWV tho the latter seems under a local carrier insertion, while inaudible on 5000, 15000 and 20000 kHz. 9265-, while I`m at it, at 1844 Aug 31, I find even weaker AM WINB neighbor2 cycling between 11 and 16 Hz low (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 920, Aug 25 at 0132-0140 UT, checking for KLMR, Lamar CO, which should be audible on SSS just before 0145 official sunset in August when it would switch from 5 kW ND, to 0.5 kW direxional: no sign of it on DX-398 rotatable. KYFR IA dominates with hymns, but when nulled only hear sportstalk from KARN AR, and briefly something in Spanish. In the new NRC AM Log, the only USA SS on 920 are WUBA in Quántico VA, unlikely; and KYST Texas City [Houston] TX, likely at U4 5/1 kW. So KLMR appears to be really off the air due to water damage July 23 as notified to FCC. See my previous report (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 1010 kHz, Aug 26 at 0615 UT, bigsig where normally nothing is very dominant at night, ads citing area code 904, ID sounds like ``KNSL`` and FM 92.5, then sports talk. Per new NRC AM Log, this has to be WJXL, Jaxonvil Beach FL, U4 50/30 kW. Night and day patterns are very similar from 6-tower array, almost everything eastward into ocean, hardly anything westward from site W of Jax closer to Macclenny per radio-locator also with maps. R-L ``coverage`` maps seem to show coastal/seawater gain to the east, Day: https://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=WJXL&service=AM&h=D Night: https://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=WJXL&service=AM&h=N But FCC maps show true nominal radiation patterns are really extremely direxional eastward. Day pattern: https://transition.fcc.gov/Bureaus/MB/Databases/AM_DA_patterns/24553dcdb4194a28ac60c1b6063ebeb7-100905.pdf night pattern: https://transition.fcc.gov/Bureaus/MB/Databases/AM_DA_patterns/24553dcdb4194a28ac60c1b6063ebeb7-100906.pdf Anyway, bigsig a kilomile westward has got to be on 30 or even 50 kW non-direxional. Do they have an STA? Or could it be so out of whack that it`s direxional westward oppositely? A reply on the IRCA iog Aug 26: ``Glenn, WJXL has been a big signal in Central Texas for a while now, I hear them nightly, thanks. James Niven, Austin, Texas`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ``I think the "KNSL" was their slogan "10-10 XL." These guys appear to have had serious problems with their night DA for at least 2 years. They've been a nightly catch on my last 2 or 3 annual sessions at the Nevada-Utah border, and they were even noted with a strong signal here in San Diego last October. They run lots of local ads so they're usually pretty easy to spot. 73 Tim Hall, Chula Vista CA`` West instead of, or in addition to east, surely gains WJXL a lot more landmass coverage! But bad news for legal 1010s in LA, TX, etc. Also, on July 1, Terry Krueger in the FL Panhandle complained ``always WJXL sports pest`` while he was trying to DX other 1010 stations (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 1010 kHz, Aug 31 at 0645 UT, OL preaching, sounds like Mother Angelica, deceased. Is there an EWTN here? Yes, new NRC AM Log shows WCKW Garyville LA, between NO and BR, U1 500/42 watts, but was silent as of 8/21. Far more likely my closest which I expected to hear instead of WJXL or CFRB recently: KDJW, U4 5000/500, ``St Valentine Catholic Radio`` in Amarillo TX. Wasn`t this originally a rocker? Or at least secular commercial until a few years ago (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 11835, Aug 31 at 0627, RV still absent (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 11835, Aug 26 at 0627, for the record, still no signal from R. Vanuatu X 3 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 11835, Aug 27 at 0617, RV still absent (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU [non]. 11835, Aug 28 at 0618, JBA carrier, surely too weak to be RV X 3, so maybe China now? No harmonic JBA carrier on 7890 at all (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 11835, Aug 29 at 0618, RV still absent. Those closer or remotedly please check if they be on any frequency (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 11835, Aug 30 at 0616, RV still AWOL (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VATICAN [non?]. 17615, Aug 30 at 1526, surprised to find VP signal, YL in English, S7/S9 direct, something about radio stations. Hardly anything else on band except 17630 CRI/Mali. Soon choral music; from 1546 I`m on UTwente where it`s better, now obviously Christian. Only thing in EiBi & Aoki, never HFCC, is Sa`udi HQS in Arabic at 13-16! No way, no sign of that, but I recall more than a sesquidecade ago, BSKSA did have English on SW around this time. 1550 it`s RCC, as the pope is singing in Latin, mixed with narration spoken play-by-play or translation. Nothing in HFCC, Aoki or EiBi about VR on 17615 anywhen. Must be a special event. At 1553 I check the website and find this along with same live on YT: ``started 29 minutes ago: From St. Peter's Basilica, Holy Mass presided over by Pope Francis with the new Cardinals``. By 1611 QRM from heavy splatter out of 17600 which must have just come on, Algeria. I let it run anyway, 1625 choral music until Vatican off at 1647*. Site? Maybe SMG but not surprised if Madagascar, as only other 16m sig was out of Africa, Mali (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
