Aoki shows it`s AWR via Moosbrunn this semihour in Hausa. But are any Hausa in Oklahoma listening and subject to conversion? An example of how well numerous other European broadcasters could intentionally reach deep North America if they had not abandoned us (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CANADA. 407 MCW kHz, Dec 9 at 0741 UT, HRU in Kansas unusually counters a dashing underbeacon barely copiable as ZHU, which is only 95 watts from Montreal / St-Hubert, Québec. New here. 328 MCW kHz, Dec 9 at 0755, dash and YTL, ND beacon of 1000 watts from Big Trout Lake, Ontario (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 9700, Dec 9 at 0721, RHC English still on this time at S9+30; at 0724 only other English is 6060, S9/+10 undermodulated. 5040 still on at S9+30 but in Spanish. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 5040, 6000, 6060, 6100, 9700, Dec 10 at 0732 check, no RHC English or Spanish signals to be found on any band; while sometimes one or two remain on post 0700. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 9700, UT Sun Dec 12 at 0735, RHC English S9+30 here while all other frequencies are off, music show. RHC does feature some good music (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 6165, Dec 13 at 0400, RHC English is back here after a spell on 9700, just in time to impose ACI splash upon much weaker 6160- WBCQ and WORLD OF RADIO. Shux, but we`ll see if permanent or not. 9700 did clash with Turkey at 0400-0700 but RHC usually well atop here. 6165 is still on with dead air of S9+20/30 at 0729. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 9700, Dec 14 at 0243, VP signal but seems to be RHC back here since it sounds same as 6000 English, and there is nothing on 6165 where it resounded last night; nor 6145. May it stay away from 6160; except when TOMBS is on that, most of the time. Something`s sometimes right at RHC. 0736 recheck, all RHCs are off (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 9710, Dec 14 at 2213, RHC Spanish S9+20/30 but distorted. Something`s always wrong at RHC. 11850, Dec 14 at 2220, RHC Spanish S9+20 but trace of distorted modulation, and parasitic spur JBA on 11840, while its twin on 11860 is still blocked by R Martí which is also atop jamming. SAWA. 11760, Dec 14 at 2220, RHC Spanish with hum, S9 and dead air. SAWA. 11880, Dec 14 at 2221, RHC English succeeds with broad weather report, temps from the Chief Meteorologist (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** EGYPT. 9899.588v, Dec 13 at 2145, R. Cairo still trying to broadcast in English and failing miserably: S9+20/25 into UTwente, but modulation of totally distorted spikes only; I rip off my headphones in disgust, but from the table I hear a 3+1 mis-timesignal at 2200:49, a bit of the theme; and at 2204.6 cuts off the air ceding to noise level. UTwente still receiving at 2220 when it`s putting out amid the hash, electronic tones of seemingly random pitch and length, perhaps an artifact of trying to synch on the non-signal? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** EGYPT. 9899.6, Dec 14 at 2212, R. Cairo is on at S8-S9 direct but only a trace of modulation presumably English (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** EGYPT. 9899.589, Dec 15 at 2113, into UTwente, R. Cairo is S9+30 of dead air except for some hum, but the mistimesignal is detected ending at 2115:08 --- wow, that`s close, presumably initiating the inaudible English sesquihour (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** ETHIOPIA [and non]. 15155-15160-15165, Dec 11 at 1552, DRM-like noise as jamming atop JBA talk, i.e. like logged Dec 7, clandestine Dimtse Woyane, via FRANCE, and jamming maybe from outside Ethiopia skip zone (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** FRANCE. 15285.070V, Dec 13 at 1615, S3-S5 of talk, the frequency audibly wavering. It`s Issoudun with R. Manara International in Hausa. Previously measured during same hour Nov 27 at 15285.052. See also SAO TOME (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** ITALY. Advance publicity that AM Italia, 918 kHz would also be broadcasting on LW 207 kHz on Dec 12 to mark the 120th anniversary of Marconi`s trans-Atlantic transmission from Cornwall to Newfoundland. 207 would run 1 kW into a 350-meter wire antenna. Via Noale SDR near Villa Estense, Dec 12 at 0618 UT, traces of a carrier on 207 kHz, while on 918 I hear some tones, and Italian narration about the historical event. S, ... in CW over and over again at 0624. Maybe this is a loop. 0625 brief announcement about this in English, offering QSL. And repeat the Italian. At 0628 on 207 sounds like the same thing, but very poor unreadable there with hashy QRM, and then fast CW QRM, maybe image on that SDR. Some Europeans could hear 207 with difficulty, and the same was also reported on 918; and 1323 kHz, which is not listed in WRTH 2021 as anywhere in Italy. The loop may continue thruout Dec 12 and into Dec 13 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KASHMIR [non]. 15170, Tue Dec 14 after 1600, quick check of UTwente reconfirms that Kashmir Civitas via Romania is still gone (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KOREA SOUTH [non]. 9870 & 9780, Dec 15 at 0100, no signal from KBS World Radio Spanish via Greenville, which they had publicized as a test on 9780, Dec 12 & 13, only? for better reception than 11880. But Ivo Ivanov and Wolfgang Bueschel say 9870 was the frequency per HFCC. Now I`m not hearing more than a JBA carrier on 11880 so a descent is indeed called for, maybe even lower (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NICARAGUA. 8989-USB, Dec 14 at 2218, JBA trace of talk, presumably the pescador preacher circumNic. Seldom hear anything when bandscanning around this time (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA. 6960 AM, Dec 12 at 0253, soft jazz at S7-S9. 0257 ID by YL as ``--- Radio``. Previously measured during same hour Nov 27 at 15460.070, within margin of error. See also FRANCE (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 11940, Dec 12 at 1552, no signal from REE frequency for S America, which ought to be detectable, since 11670 for Africa is, as well as 12030 ME, 9690 NAm, but all VP with silly ballgame (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 9690, Mon Dec 13 at 2311, REE`s token English after the news, presents the full speech of Nobel Peace Prize winner from the Philippines, Maria Ressa, an excellent advocate for Freedom of the Press. Unfortunately, REE is going into deeper and deeper fades into the local high Xmas noise level and I give up about halfway through. Quick check of the other three frequencies finds zero signals on 11670, 11940, 12030, not propagating and/or not on the air. Her speech should be available somewhere, eventually in REE archive (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY [and non]. 5960, Dec 15 at 2315, no signal from VOT English into Virginia SDR; nor to UTwente where only the Chinese station is heard. Nor on any of the five other TRT frequencies scheduled until 2130 or 2200. But at 2327 recheck, now VOT is on 5960 at S9+40/50 into UTwente, talking about Iran. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler. Recheck again Dec 16 at 0013, VOT is *still* on running its multilingual ID loop filler, and 0015 into German with Chinese JBA under; by 0024 recheck, VOT is finally off uncovering what is really PBS Xinjiang, Mandarin, from Urumqi, EAST TURKISTAN, land of imperialist ChiCom genocide against Uighurs and other Moslems. It`s as if the TRT sleepyrator were compensating for joining English late by adding on part of German hour not supposed to be on SW now at all. Or maybe the ole clock on the wall is running really slow? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. Because of recording problems, 2116 was not ready by 0130 UT Friday December 10, so 2115 replayed on WRMI: confirmed on 5850 VG S9+20/30 direct, but 7780 JBA; but 7780 S9/+10 into UTwente at 0155. First broadcast of WOR 2116 this week at 0330 UT Friday December 10, confirmed S8/S9+5 into Bonaire (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2116 monitoring: encountered by chance Friday December 10 at 1539 on WRMI 9955, S9+20! Yes, without notice but we`ll take it, now on the System B skedgrid for 1530 Fridays, still dated as last March, but countless changes have been made since then. Now there is a new 1530-1600 strip of mostly DXish programs besides WOR on Fridays: `Wavescan` on Sun & Mon; `SW Radiogram` on Tue; `Hobart Radio International` on Wed, `Frecuencia al Día` on Thu; but of course Overcomer on Sabbathday. Searching the WRMI skeds for any other WOR changes: no longer shown Fri 2330 on Sys L 5950, tho we were on last week plus 4980; no longer UT Sun 0030 on 5950, tho we were still showing then for a couple weeks anyway; still Sun 2330 on 5950, but may well be also 4980, 4975 spur and separate Sys B on 9955. WOR 2116 also confirmed Friday December 10 at 1915 on IRRS SW, 7290 via Bulgaria, and 918 via Italy. Via UTwente turned on 7290 just in time to hear carrier come on at *1858.8, S9+25 of dead air until chop on modulation at 1900.9 during `Feature Story News`, missing any Aida or IRRS s/on. Heavy ACI from 7295 China requires ~5 kHz narrow or LSB tuning. Then I check // 918 via nearby Noale SDR: S9+10, but no sign of // LW 207 kHz which has been testing but not now. Filler includes fragment of a talk show about climate, solar system exploration until it`s chopped off for 1915 IRRS ID and WOR. Both stay with WOR complete until 1944. Also confirmed Fri Dec 10 at 2130 replay on AM Italia 918 not 207; preceded by country music and IRRS ID. Chops off the air at 2158* a minute before I am finished! Revealing ``La Ínter`` from Madrid, 2201 with ``Mr Grinch`` Xmas song in English! Still a fast SAH from an understation, Iran, Nigeria? WORLD OF RADIO 2116 monitoring: not confirmed Sunday December 12 at 2100 on AM Italia, 918 kHz, still running the Marconi anniversary special loop, as heard via Noale SDR. Confirmed Sunday December 12 at 2352 the 2330 on WRMI 5950 but JBA to Bonaire, and 9955 at S9+5. Then to Missouri SDR, 5950 is S8+35/25 and 9955 S6-S9. At Bonaire, NO signal on 4980, should be audible if propagating, since 5010 WRMI is there. No 4980 either to Missouri. Another example of self-contradictory WRMI skedgrid info: System L shows 5950 only but transmitter sked atop shows System L also applies to 4980 at 23-24. Apparently 4980 at 23-24 is really M-F only during APS Radio program. WOR did appear once on 4980, Fri Dec 3 at 2330 before APS launched. Now that broadcast is on neither. Also confirmed UT Monday December 13 at 0030 on WRMI 7730, S5-S7 into Missouri vs hi noise level, but improved to S9+10/25 at 0047. Also confirmed UT Monday December 13 at 0130 on WRMI 9395, S9+5/S7 to Missouri; but at 0138 NO signal direct. Also confirmed UT Mon Dec 13 at 0230 on WRN North America webcast. Also confirmed UT Mon Dec 13 at 0400 on Area 51 via WBCQ 6160-, carrier minus 45 Hz = 6159.955 to Knoxville SDR, JBA to S2-S4 -- as RHC has moved back to 6165 from 9700 just in time to resume QRMing us with much stronger signal, no better but carrier offset shows minus 52 Hz = 6159.948. Happy Holidays!`` One may also contribute via MO or check in US funds on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser, PO Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. 5800, Dec 14 at 2225, WRMI-10 with SMTV, weaker than // 9395. 5800 runs 24 hours including TOMBS overnight; I notice that FRS Holland plans 5800 as one of its frequencies for December Special Sunday Dec 19 at 0852-1330 UT, but also 7700, 6185. Obviously timed for daytime Europe, not N America. That late, maybe 5800 WRMI will not be a problem over there; and maybe we could hear 7700 over here, while 6185 signal if any would be blocked by Mexico (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. 9330, Dec 10 at 0736, WBCQ colliding with Cuban spy numbers and uteblapps on a Friday, S9+10/20 with a medium SAH. This time WBCQ is slightly atop. The flat-earthers are also too stupid to realize they have a problem here and resolve it; but no loss some 8 hours a week of unlistenable English nonsense (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. (7489.9v), UT Sat Dec 11 at 0100, not even checking SW, I tune the WBCQ webcast for this week`s `AAAWWW`. As usual, A & A are talking/yelling over each other for an hour, which may be fine in person, but not so good for anyone listening via radio/webcast. As always first trying to titillate us about Allan stripping because it`s so hot in Deland of Fla, and Angela being so gorgeous. Then about horse riding, as Central Florida is the Horse Capit@l of the World; so is this a repeat? No. They are both klutzes since they are tall and lanky. Occasional pro-Trump, anti-Biden remarx. 0120 about plant-based substitutes for meat; they are almost vegan, but dairy stuff is OK. etc., etc. Complaining about inflation. 0141, finally datestamp as 10 of December YOOLF 2021; email is open (but not phones apparently, no calls interrupting). Advice for married couples like them: talk a lot to each other, which they do not just this hour, but habitually daily at noon on the porch they hold a ``soviet``, as in council or advice session, and sometimes also at supper. They praise the ops in Maine who are doing such a good job. 0145 reading some items from new Free Radio Weekly just in - frequencies, names, program content, never any times or dates or credits; he does notice my name and remarx, ``When is Glenn Hauser`s World of Radio on?`` Finds it: ``Wednesdays at 5-5:30 pm Eastern on 7490 [never mind the other Area 51 airing]. God bless Glenn Hauser, still doing it; how old is he? Older than me.`` 0152 reading an article about a study financed by Dolby about changing music listening habits by adults. Never mentions radio, but implied, he thinx. 0158 prayer and 0200 over to Hal Turner. John Carver`s version: ``Tonight's show started on time on 4790. No signal on 6160 and 7490. Allan and Angela in the studio. Usual bantering. Allan says he's hot and wants to take his clothes off. Opening talk about horses again and then comments about Angela being nearly naked in the studio. Then back to horses. Antique vehicles are touched upon then jumps into talk about eating red meat, climate change and suggestions that people should eat less red meat which morphs into a discussion about fake meat and how much it has improved over the years since being introduced. They say changing one's diet is just one way to help reduce inflation. A quick mention about chips in new cars which Angela rants about but quickly moves back to horses and then back to new cars. Quick check at 0130 shows 6160 and 7490 are still dead at my QTH. Allan and Angela posit that Elon Musk wants to go to Mars to turn it into a dumping ground for radioactive waste as the Green movement takes over there will be more radioactive waste generated. Jumping from there to musings about fusion power to solve our fuel problems as we phase out fossil fuels. All the time Allan is saying that he'd like to be talking about radio but the talk keeps morphing into different directions such as Angela mentioning AI and Allan going back to discussion about fusion power and then, believe it or not, horses come up again. At about 0143 the noise on 4790 increases and is harder to copy. Then some talk in general about the station stating that all was working well in Maine and the staff up there were great. At 0147 Allan jumps to reading highlights from a Free Radio Weekly with no warning and then gives a plug for Glenn Hauser's WOR program. At 0152 he reads an article about the changing listening habits of today with several references to a Generation Z. Reads an email at 0158 and into the closing prayer. Program was off the air at 0200. John, Mid-North Indiana`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9330, Dec 14 at 2216, zero signal from Flatearthic Worlds Last Chance Radio via WBCQ, crashed again and no exciter on 9333 either. Not a prop problem since neighbor 9265V WINB is still S9+10/20 with TOMBS (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. 9330, Wed Dec 15 at 0725, WLCR via WBCQ is back on mixing with somewhat weaker Cuban spy numbers, making a medium SAH adding up to S9+20/30 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. 9385, Dec 19 at 0735 UT, JBA algo. The only thing scheduled is WEWN English, which has been absent for more than a week. Making a comeback. 9385, Dec 10 at 1530, again something JBA here, but not an hour WEWN would be on. Only other thing on 9385 is the 1530-1630 hour, VOA Burmese via PHILIPPINES. 15610, Dec 10 at 2100, a VP signal here into Maine SDR; missed ID but intro a talk program, 2103-2105 break for Real (?) Radio news, 2105 resume talkshow about conversions, obviously religious. I believe the daytime WEWN frequency has also been absent, but this must be it. Trouble is, has huge squeal and modulation is suppressed/distorted. Most listenable, but not very, in AM Narrow, reading S9+10, or LSB mode as S5. WEWN is in horrible shape. Nominal sked for English is 19-24 on 15610, 00-09 on 9385. Spanish on 12050/5970 has been nominal (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 7505, Dec 10 at 0739 tune-in to two canned WRNO IDs, asking for reports, and overlapping into `Maranatha Radio` starting at this odd hour. S8/S9+10 and suptorted (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. (5085), UT Sun Dec 12 at 0103, WTWW-2 webcast with `Theater Organ Under the Arch`, TOUTA underway with Xmasmx in $tereo. Usually starts considerably before 0100v. This hour conflicts with `Encore` classical music on WRMI 5850, so will have to be sure to catch that on next repeat UT Monday 0300 on 5950, when best reception will be needed via a remote; no webcast to hear that in $tereo. TOUTA ends at 0151.7 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 3360, UT Sun Dec 12 at 0415, WWRB S9+10/20 with gospel huxter, new experimental? frequency presumably 0200-0500v UT Sun, 0200-0400v on UT Mon but not on weekdays. So far I don`t see anyone else reporting this; due to total lack of interest? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. 9275, Dec 12 at 1549, VG S9/+10 signal, could be WMLK? NO! Chinese pop music, so FEBC Philippines until 1600. WMLK supposedly will not start until 1700. Tornadic report below. ** U S A. 840, WHAS: At 0638 UT Dec 11 I posted to the WOR, NRC, IRCA and ABDX groups: ``WHAS Tornadic --- WHAS 840 Louisville with continuous tornado coverage from tune-in 0604 past 0618 UT Saturday Dec 11. unID weatherman obviously on TV with invisible visual references like ``follow my finger`` and ``note the highlighted areas``. But plenty of geographical references, counties threatened, etc. Meanwhile, nothing about this on other major stations in the region, KMOX, WSM, WLAC? Tnx to alert from Paul S in CT. 73, Glenn Hauser, OK`` Here`s what Paul had sent, first at 0517 UT: ``[WOR] Tornado Outburst --- Local news in CT reporting night tornados in Central USA. Tuned into 1120 KMOX for updates, but changed over to local programming after 11PM (CT) [05 UT] news. Workers trapped in an Amazon warehouse in community of Edwardsville [IL]. Reports about Arkansas nursing home direct hit with deaths and injuries. Reports of debris at Commercial Aviation altitudes (33-39000 feet). Also checked in at WHAS 840, some network or local programming there. These reports 0001-0006 EST [0501-0506 UT]. lots of 'flutter' both channels. Local radio stations strong background. (840 New Britain, CT and 1120 Bristol, CT) UPDATE 2331 EST [0531 UT]: WHAS now up strongly with weather report and warnings for area until 0300 CT [09 UT]. Storms are moving at 50-55 MPH. Local area communities have warning reporting. Some massive tornadoes still moving from AR to KY. There is a report of a 200+ mile path length. Some truly awesome powerful storms. Thoughts, Prayers for all. Paul S. in CT FN31nl`` Further replies: 0732 UT: 840, WHAS recheck, briefer wx info from same guy, ID as ``WLKY Chief Meteorologist ---`` didn`t catch the name but WLKY website says Jay Cardosi. BTW, no bother from 846 JBA carrier of Xmas Island. Why isn`t WHAS Radio getting its severe wx info from WHAS-TV????? FCC TV Query shows WHAS 11/11 licensed to Sander Operating Co.; WLKY 14/32 to Hearst Properties, Inc. But WHAS [AM] licensed to IHM Licenses LLC. So WHAS radio is not related to WHAS-TV (Glenn Hauser) 0944 UT: ``Different City but related, at 0918 UT I observed WNQM 1300 as well as WWCR 4840 kHz, 5890 kHz and 5935 kHz suddenly leave the airwaves as tornadoes are passing through the Nashville area. Unknown if this is due to lack of power, damage or as a preventative measure. John Jurasek`` [more about WWCR below] 1339 UT: `` Glenn, KMOX didn't have anything on after 0600 UT (which, considering the severity of this outbreak, mystified me), but did have extensive coverage earlier in the evening. I was tipped off to this around 0340 UT when typing in my own logging of KTMC-1400 on http://dxworld.com/bcblog.html and saw from DXers in Minnesota and Indiana that KMOX had been off. Shortly after sending the message, I tuned into 1120 (as best as I can here, which requires turning my loop 90 degrees from KFAB, then going with USB once I'm on 1120), and KMOX was back on, providing lots of news about the storms, including mentions of Lambert International Airport (not sure if it took a direct hit, or not). The big news online was about an Amazon facility in nearby Edwardsville, Illinois that DID take a direct hit, and 2 people were killed there. Also saw a news item about how one tornado had travelled from Arkansas into the Missouri bootheel, then into Tennessee and Kentucky (!). If confirmed that it was indeed the same twister, it would be the first quad-state tornado in history. 73, Rick Dau, South Omaha, Nebraska`` 1419 UT: ``We had a bumpy night here in the Lexington [KY] area too; warning sirens at 3 AM [08 UT] sent us to the basement for an hour. I can't complain; luckily only minor damage near us but a huge swath of devastation to our west. Amazing weather for December, record-breaking. Being from CT I'm not used to this kind of thing but I'm glad to be here. Jay radiojayallen`` 1702 UT: ``Glenn, as Rick noted, KMOX had wall-to-wall coverage when I was listening around 9:30-10 pm Central (0330-0400 UT) last night --- only it wasn’t their coverage. Like WHAS, they were relaying local TV—in KMOX’s case, KTVU-Fox 2 and KPLR Ch. 11. (I’m “mystified”, to borrow Rick’s term, to hear KMOX carrying audio from any local TV other than KMOV Ch. 4, the CBS affiliate. Oh well…) At that point they were still reporting 50-100 people trapped in the Amazon fulfillment center in Edwardsville, with no mention yet of fatalities. WHAS seemed to be off, or at reduced power, around the same time. I wasn’t hearing much from them at any rate, certainly not thru all the lightning crashes. Randy Stewart, Springfield MO`` 1942 UT: ``Glenn, KMOX had coverage of the tornado in the St. Louis area, but simulcast KTVI/KPLR-TV. At 9 PM CST/0300z KMOX was off the air for about one hour, and I could only hear them on KEZK HD-2. After 9 PM KMOX chose to re-run a program aired earlier that day. Paul Harner`` About WWCR. #1 transmitter was already crippled, unable to run 6115 or 3215 but still 15825 in daytime. However, Dec 11 at 1554, not a trace of 15825 either direct which under ``normal`` conditions is a JBA carrier, nor 13845. I bring up a Maine remote to check them: by 1558, 13845 is VG with TOMBS, and 12160 must have just come on at 1559 during University Network with their 30-30 800 number, and Dead Gene Scott. That is NOT supposed to be on 12160 WWCR-2 at this time, rather various other gospel huxters. Something`s wacko at WWCR. I then sit the Maine SDR on 15825, which cuts on S9+10/20 at *1620. At 1820 I hear a bit of the `Talking [sic] Machine Show` with scratchy old Xmas carols from 1915y, not a solid signal direct on 12160.
