Andorra in Spanish, rock music, French-speaking DJ. This is the much-publicized 40th anniversary salute to a long-gone SW station, arranged by Christian Milling of Germany`s shortwaveservice, who informs the WOR iog: ``Special program announcement: As some of you know, the legendary Radio Andorra was taken off the air these days 40 years ago in 1981 by the government. Some programs that were prepared couldn't be aired, most of the material is lost. Luckily, the playlist of the last planned hit-parade from April, 12th 1981 survived, thus it was never broadcasted. 40 years later this will finally be done. Next Monday, April, 12th 2021 at 17 UTC, exact 40 years later we will complete history. The show will be hosted by a DJ that started his career in Radio Andorra end of the 1970s. The program will be in French and broadcasted via Moosbrunn on a steerable LogPer Antenna directed at 270° towards the centre of France. All French-speaking countries in Europe should be covered in good quality.`` VG S9+40 signal at UTwente, and assumed zero signal direct at midday here. This is to last 3 or maybe 4 hours today. 1741-1751 pause for interview about the DJ and his subsequent career. Could not catch his name, which was mentioned only once in advance discussion I have not yet relocated. There really should be some Catalan if not Spanish, English. Here`s some Catalan with the playlist of 50+songs, found by roger: https://www.bondia.ad/cultura/lultim-hit-parade-de-radio-andorra My 1960 QSL card for R. Andorra tribute special via AUSTRIA, continued from previous report starting at *1700 April 12: Mostly unfamiliar pop songs in French, obviously from the 70s/80s. Tho playlist includes half a dozen in English by big names, which I never catch except for one I don`t recognize either, checking in occasionally from 1730 to 2030. Also some long segments interviewing DJ. Apparently a count-up rather than count-down, spoiler alert! Plays leading songs in the Top 50 at first, and by 2000 UT working down into the 40s, heading toward finale by 2045. At 2037, just in case, I check it direct to here, but still too early, no signal (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** ANDORRA [non]. More info on the R. Most likely CKLW Windsor, easily dominant here despite KQCV and the other 800s at night; so suspect with a network program originating at 1010 CFRB, Toronto. Anyone confirm? Reverse phone lookups are extremely unhelpful. Both are now iHeart stations with same show `Power Play` at 2 am, but websites show different call-in numbers. Now = UM on 6100 S9/+10, 6000 S9+20/30, and 5040 S9+20/30 --- but 6060 is dead air at S9+10 with some hum only instead of big humbuzz; progress? Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13700, April 8 at 1430, RHC Spanish back here during `Sonido Cubano` music, S9+10/20 but no spurs and not on 13740 either where the spurunit appeared yesterday. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 6040-6080, April 9 at 0602, RHC 6060 transmitter is not only burying its English under big humbuzz, but splashing out over this range, e.g. ruining 6070 CFRX. Something`s always wrong at RHC. 5040 & 6000 & 6100 are off, but 6165 remains with English at S9+10/20 tho undermodulated; not 6145 this time (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13505-trace, 13570, 13635; 13765, 13830, 13895, 13960-trace, April 9 at 1350, RHC spurblobs with F# tones at approx. 65 kHz intervals out to 4th order from source 13700-AM at S9-S4 weaker than // 13740 which is clean. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 15140, April 9 at 1358, this RHC is off; 1500 recheck is on at S9+20/30 with good mod // 11760. Aoki says 15140 from *1400 but EiBi from *1100. SAWA? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13606, April 9 at 2025, besides noise jamming against nothing since R. Marti quit 13605 at 2000, there are now those curious beeps --- irregularly sometimes 3 at a time; otherwise two tones alternating, seem to be centered about 1 kHz above the channel. We have noticed this before e.g. on 11930 after-hours from Cuban jammers; perhaps just playing around. More of same still at 2256 recheck. Hard to imagine any intelligence being conveyed by this non-coded beeping (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 9650, April 9 at 2128, RHC is S9-S7 but suptorted. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 11930 & 11860, April 10 at 0215, after-hours jamming against nothing continues, not only noise, but those cute beeps I was hearing six hours earlier around 13605. Partly 2-tones; when continuous they are running at the rate of 72/minute. Probably only one of the multiple jamming sites piling up on each Martí frequency does this. Will we ever have access to jam site details in the Post-Revolución Era? C.I.D.; ¡Cuba Libre! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA [and non]. 6165, April 10 at 0306, JBA carrier could be Turkey in English to Asia instead ofo RHC Englilsh, but not on 6145; while 6000 English is readable; 6060 in Spanish, but none can compete with storm noise level around here. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 5040, April 10 at 0602, this RHC is still in Spanish instead of English, but at 0605, of The Cuban Five, the four sixes, 6000 & 6060 & 6100 & 6165 are still on in English, unlikely all for the full hour; and all tough vs local high storm noise level. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 6060, April 11 at 0623, RHC English still with humbuzz, but we have choices between the other two: 6100 good S9+20, 6165 same level but less modulated. 6000 off already. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 11850, April 12 at 0132, RHC is S9/+10 of dead air, Spanish or English? Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 5990, April 12 at 0536, undermodulated RHC English S9+30 instead of 6000! Presumably confused while 5990 is intentional earlier for CRI relays at 23-01. Aoki shows both from Quivicán, but must be separate units as both scheduled between 00 and 01. In any event, RHC still gets Mali 5995 adjacented from one side or the other if after 0600. Now at 0536 I check the other RHCs: 6060 S9+ same undermodulation, and NO buzz for a change; 6100, S9+10/20 but undermod; 6165, S9+10/20 but noisy. 5040, S9+20/30 even English. So here we have The Cuban Five all in axion. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13490-trace, 13560 vs local ISM pulsing, 13630; 13769, 13839, 13909, 13979-trace, April 12 at 1419, FMish spurblobs but with no program mod, just F# tones, out of 13700-AM RHC Spanish. Not in the order tuned, at 69-70 kHz intervals. All gone by 1500. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA [non?]. 9805.4-CW, April 12 at 1510, beepstrings much stronger than residual jammer noise against OCB which is currently on 9805 only at 10-13. They are continuous at steady rate of 100/minute but don`t last a full minute between pauses. Individual strings last anywhere from 22 to 35 to 57 beeps, per three different counts; and during each string there is one out-of-step pause. These continue to be associated with after-hours Cuban jamming frequencies, as recently heard near 11860, 11930, 13605. SAWA. This also reminds me of the old Soviet jammers, which would ``ID`` by two CW letters at least once a minute; the one which still stix in my mind was ZG: --../--. Probably secret random coding, but now that reminds me of Zhigulevsk, except Zh is not the same letter as Z. I researched some websites about Soviet jamming, a few mentioning the ID setup, but not ZG. But I digress (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 11850, April 13 at 0226, RHC is S8-S9, JBM so I can barely decide it`s Spanish, instead of English which has shown here by mistake before. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 6000, S9+30, April 13 at 0233, and 6165, S9+20/30 both with equally sufficient RHC English modulation for a change (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 6000, April 13 at 0559, RHC English is back on correct frequency after stray to 5990 last night, now overpowering weak Mali 5995 properly from the plus side, as last hour repeat starts a bit early into news already. Also on 6060 with some buzzes; 6100 with some squeals; 6165 with some hum; and 5040 is off. Somethings` always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 11980, April 14 at 0050. CRI English, S8 fading to S5 and undermodulated, i.e. 2 x relay on 5990, confirmed by // on two receivers. Someone else heard this recently but did not realize it could be an harmonic, altho I have reported it a number of times before. Not always audible, but something is always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 5025, April 14 at 0109, R. Rebelde is S9+30 of dead air, or with a trace of modulation? Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13740, April 14 at 0113, surprise, RHC in English here, supposedly only Spanish, S9+30 and better than // 6000 & 6165; and it`s the 13 MHz OSOB. During weather outlook for all of North America, including USA, Mexico, Central America, Cuba, temps in F&C, from ``Cuba`s Chief Meteorologist``, didn`t catch his name, who will be back tomorrow. A new feature? Never encountered that before. Perhaps trying to one-up Radio Martí, which has long provided Cuban weather info from afar. But is English on 13740 another feed mixup, like when once heard on 11850? (not now - still suptorted Spanish); an experiment or an intentional summer improvement? Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 5025, April 14 at 0552, R. Rebelde is S9+20/30, just barely modulated, minuscule improvement since my last check at 0109 of a trace. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 11880, April 14 at 2223, this RHC is off while it should have been in French; while 11950 is on early? By 2315-2317, 11880 is on during English, merely S9, undermodulated during North American weather outlook but fade down when name of Chief Meteorologist is outroed. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** EAST TURKISTAN. 13710, April 8 at 1455, CRI S9+10/S7 with flutter, in American-English chat, i.e. Kashgar scheduled this hour only, to be replaced by Sa`udi Qur`an at 1457. Re the fonetix I heard ending the :50 minute announcement on WWVH, I check 10000 again April 8 at 0550: it`s about MARS activity on ``60`` meters, foneticizing website DOD.ORG. How is it that of all USG/military activities, this merits time on WWV/H? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** INDONESIA. When checking HFCC for Romania A21 sked, I hit RRI instead of RRO, and come up with this TOTALLY IMAGINARY sked for Indonesia, including 3325 relay via Playa-de-Pals, the long-destroyed R. Liberty site on the coast of Spain! Makes HFCC a laughingstock: http://hfcc.org/data/schedbybrc.php?seas=A21&broadc=RRI 53 entries; language for all, long-dead domestic sites is English! Why not?! These are presumably sprinkled thruout the by-frequency A-21 schedule; beware! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** ITALY. IRRS MW/LW plans: see USA [and non] WORLD OF RADIO ** KIRITIMATI. 846 kHz, April 14 at 0602, JBA carrier, in bandscan going up from 531 kHz, now too late to hear anything from Europe, until I get to 1215; but not too early to hear R. Really no other possibility so I dare not to declare it unID tho I never get any audio (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** MALI. 13799.44v, April 11 at 1833, JBA carrier with trace of Arabic talk, I can now confirm as spur out of S9+35/40 Bamako 13685 relay at 1830-1930 only of CRI, as heard yesterday on exactly the opposite side of 13685, and again today. 13570-USB tuned in by 1828 on UTwente SDR, nothing, but by 1830 I detect the het, and tho JBA carrier, get UTw AM Synch to lock onto it at 13570.735, and it`s slowly drifting downward by the Hz to 13570.700 as transmitter warms up. Fundamental with same behaviour, 13685.075, down to 13685.060 etc. And the upper spur: 13799.444 down to 13799.431, etc. During a 60-second span, this one loses 2 Hz, and I assume all will eventually become more stable (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) see also UNIDENTIFIED ** NEW ZEALAND. 15720, April 8 at 0534, JBA carrier no doubt RNZP, far too late to be useful here instead of 9, 11 or even 13 MHz channels; now scheduled until 0558, but Ivo Ivanov, Bulgaria, has been hearing it running even later until 0645* instead of 11725 from *0559 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NEW ZEALAND. 11725, April 10 at *0559:15, RNZP cuts on with Bell Bird chirps, tonight starting at scheduled time. I was waiting for it a minute earlier after noting Vanuatu JBA carrier on 11835. Timesignal at 0600 ends about one second *late*! compared to WWVH a minute later. Is Rangitaiki, NI SW site getting a delayed internet feed, or satellite, or what? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA. 6970-AM, April 8 at 0546, JBA nothing but talk, sounds like a real station. Search for //s: not TOMBS on WRMI or WWCR; not any of my 3 Enid locals 960, 1390, 1640. No big 7 MHz signals which could leapfrog here. 6970 does not compute as any MW harmonic either. I notice that 6970 happens to be 2 x 3485, where Gander VOLMET is, but USB of course and not // either. It`s S9 but so is the local noise level, so mostly unreadable. At 0600 fades up a bit, 0603 with anti-Biden talk, denouncing ``far left`` so I bet it`s Fox News Channel TV audio. YES, I soon match it to FNC on cable 48 here, a few seconds ahead of that during Sean Hannity repeat. [BTW, our Suddenlink office was closed down yesterday for state tax violations!] Also occasional machine-gun rat-a-tat-tat QRM, utility I assume, tho the paranoid might conclude it be jamming. Later I check HF Underground and find NO logs of it tonight as there is hardly any pirate activity or DXing this late at night; but FNC has been reported several times before on 6970, in full daytime, most recently January 26 at 1755 UT (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA. 6885-USB, April 11 at 0000, pirate music at S9, tnx to tip from Mickey Delmage in AB and Harold Frodge in MI; 0014 ``You are listening to MRI, Mix Radio International`` and into YL cover of ``Wichita Lineman``, certainly not Glen Campbell; 0020 another announcement, echoey about requests? but I was distracted. LOTS of logs here, apparently has been on all day since 1537 April 10, first on 6890-USB https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,80142.0.html Well heard even in the daytime as far as Alberta and BC. As for `Wichita Lineman` one logger says it`s by Paula West. I/we always assumed this was about the city of Wichita, Kansas --- but wait, if she`s a lineman for the *county*, that would be ``Sedgwick Lineman``. But wait2, there is a Wichita county in Kansas, west central, tiny population of about 2K. But wait3, there is one other Wichita County, the one in Texas around Wichita Falls, 200+K. Not to be confused with Washita, 11K in Oklahoma; or Ouachita, 26K in Arkansas. I am not the only one questioning this song: https://americansongwriter.com/glen-campbell-wichita-lineman-behind-the-song/ Peter B., about a year ago: ``I like this song a lot but the lyrics don’t make any sense. He’s searching for an overload? What does that mean? Jimmy has said this was about telephone lines but when a phone network becomes overloaded, it doesn’t happen out on the lines, it happens back at the phone company. There’s nothing a lineman can do to fix it. And why does he work for the county and not the phone company? And if he works for the county, why is he naming himself after a city? He’s apparently way out in the middle of nowhere but calls himself the Wichita lineman. And what kind of strain do you get from snow? Enough snow with wind will cause lines to come down but is there a particular section he knows about that’s prone to this (and not the rest of the network)? And while the line “And I need you more than want you” is interesting, it is far from romantic. Very confusing.`` Much more: https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-40861326 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 341-MCW kHz, April 14 at 0558 UT, Enid`s one and only ND beacon, EI, is reactivated at Woodring Airport, 25 watts. Also BAD signals on 15 and 21. Now both Wichita and Tulsa are on some same channels, which would have been unthinkable in the Analog Era. Alison Hughes with a few news stories: elexion in Ecuador with large showing by indigenous write-in candidate; Israeli cyberattack on Iran nuclear; Yemen vs Sa`udi Arabia; Myanmar; Gagarin in space anniversary. Then another YL with feature on ``magical trio`` of art musea in Madrid. By now 11940 is fading down; if NAm were still on 9690 it would remain loud & clear. 2224 Justin Coe concludes with a Blues concert, something new in Spain (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 17855, April 14 at 2058, REE is JBA S2, but axually improves later, N American frequency both on the air and propagating this late for the first time in the A-21 season. By 2157 it`s S7-S8 and better than 15520 now which was S5 an hour ago. 11940 is S5-S7 as token Wednesday English starts at 2200. 11685 for Africa, normally the worst, is now S6-S8. Justin Coe introduces: feature after some news will be about the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Second Republic in 1931y; and concluding about Catalan composer Federico Mompou. First news by Alison is doubling of COVID-19 cases in Spain due to a fourth wave caused by eased restrixions for Holy Week {DUH!). 17855 down to S7 by 2207, some fadeouts to 2210. At 2211, 15520 a JBA carrier; 2212 about República 2 underway as I find 11940 best. By 2214, 17855 is almost gone. We shall hear how well it hold up as more and more insolation brighten the North Atlantic path over the next bimonth, with 17855 starting out at ``midnight`` local time for English. As per new info from IRRS, I`m checking out the non-SW broadcasts of WORLD OF RADIO on their schedule via 594 kHz which per WRTH 2021 is Challenger Radio, 5/1 kW at Villa Estense, Italy, so should be only 1 kW at night. But there are NO other Europeans on 594. First broadcast of new WOR 2081 is at 2030 UT Friday April 9, and there it is via Kiwi remote receivers. I try three in Italy; first via IZ6BYY in central Italy, S8-S9 with some CCI, het from 595+. Better via IW3HBX, at Noale where we`re a steady S9+15. That`s only 53 km away, the two towns equally SW and NE of Padova just inland from Venezia. I`m also getting it well on the other side of Europe, 858 km away, via the UTwente SDR, S8-S9 and checking the autonotch gets completely rid of the het. The major QRM is the off-frequency Moroccan circa 596, 50 kW at Oujda. MWOffsets shows Morocco at 595.898 as of 2020-09-23, but sometimes on 593 or 594.998. At Noale SDR the het zero-beats about 595.7. On 594 itself there are Africans in Malawi and Nigeria, and from the ME, three Sa`udis, 2000, 50 and 10 kW. I never heard any Qur`an or other Arabic; per WRTH the big gun is fortunately a daytimer quitting at 1500 UT; the 50 kW is 24 hours, and the 10 kW until 2300. It looks like there would be nothing to impede Challenger from running much higher power on 594, if they could. A sesquidecade ago there were several high-power Europeans on 594, now all gone. Anyhow, Alfredo Cotroneo of IRRS tells me, ``WOR will also be repeated on our IRN streaming channel and occasionally at other times on MW and SW. The list of our public streaming channels are available at https:/nexus.org/MP3 The program is simulcast on 7290 kHz and 594 kHz AM/Medium Wave. We also anticipate a move from 594 kHz to 918 kHz (much better frequency) later this summer, as soon as we receive final authorization from the authorities. LW 207 kHz (Long Wave) will also be activated at around the same time and we **may** also be able to schedule some broadcast there. Thank you and take care. 73, Alfredo -- Alfredo E. Cotroneo, CEO, NEXUS-Int'l Broadcasting Association`` The only broadcaster now on 207 kHz is 75 kW from Iceland. I`m not so sure 918 will be better: WRTH shows on there are 20 kW from Madrid, inactive, but I seem to recall it came back; 20 kW from Egypt, unknown power from Greece, several very low powers from Holland, 50 kW from Iran, and 30 kW from Nigeria. 918 is one other frequency also suffering from an off-channel ~1 kHz het, this time from Nigeria on 917! I am adding in the other WOR airings by IRRS on 594 only. Once again like when it was on Mondays last few weeks, WOR theme cut on in progress after dead air, no IRRS sign-on or FS News headlines. Tuned in earlier at 1747 when IRIB was wrapping up Russian, atop CCI from CNR China; after a neat ditty, Iran off at 1750* uncovering CNR. Meanwhile there is splash from 7300, Iran in German. Strong S9+20 IRRS 7290 carrier on from *1756.5 covering China, also with pulsing/rumble noise on its own modulation. Continues into WOR but abates somewhat. The same self-QRM is heard via Carlow, Eire SDR. CNR timesignal audible under at 1800. I also notice that every breath I take while speaking is exaggerated as they come out of these relays. Later I go back and listen to my original soundfile and inhaling is barely noticeable. At 1810 I check 14580 on both where a listener via UTwente was also hearing me April 5, second harmonic. Not audible at UTwente, but JBA at Carlow; LSB needed to avoid ute QRM on plus side. I am suggesting to Jeff that it would be great if this big 315-degree signal across mid-America could resume at least a few hours in the evenings with secular programming we would like to hear better, e.g. some of the 9955 shows aimed away and subject to jamming (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. (7489.9v), UT Sat April 10 at 0000-0100, WBCQ webcast of `AAAWWW` I semi-monitor. As to be expected, major subject is the late Brother Stair, and how beneficial he was financially to WBCQ and to other SW stations, giving him much credit for keeping the SW medium alive; 0021 datestamp as 9th of April, YOOL 2021; discuss Star Trek A&A are into watching on Netflix without ads. 0030 Uncle Bill calls from Chicago about BS being a true believer in SW; how he helped save Channel 292 in Germany by buying up all spare airtime for a while. Allan also credits World`s Last Chance for investing so much in SW via WBCQ. 0048 Angela mentions that she doesn`t believe the `science` about COVID --- apparently it is all a deliberate conspiracy to turn everyone communist. IIRC Allan himself does condone vaccination; etc., etc. Closing prayer squeaked in, not cut off in webcast, but Hal Turner JIP. Here`s John Carver`s version: ``Tonight's show started on time on 6160 and 7490 with 7490 having a slightly better signal, 6160 having a het from 6165 [RHC] and a good bit of static on both frequencies. Allan and Angela in the studio. It's 76 degrees in Fla and Angela looks so pretty all dressed up. Opening talk about Brother Stair's death. After twenty some minutes of this the talk makes a big jump to the new Star Trek series. Phone call at 0030 which picks up the Brother Stair thread and the talk continues. During the second Brother Stair segment, Allan talks about other religious programs and mentions the purchase of WHRI and the plans to spiff up the station and get more religious programming on the air. No other information about the purchase. The talk turns somewhat political after a few minutes with discussions of covid and about gun control. Reading of emails at 0051. Talk is cut off mid sentence at 0100 with no closing prayer and no closing comments and once again into dead air. John, Mid-North Indiana`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. 13570, April 10 at 1905, no signal from World`s Last Chance on WBCQ; Ivo Ivanov reported that 13570 is a new HFCC registration instead of 9330 at 17-02 UT including Arabic from 1900. But WBCQ is still blasting in on 9330 in German. More wishful thinking? When Superstation was first testing last year, a bunch of other frequencies were registered, but WBCQ could never figure out how to change from any frequency but 9330. That`s probably what led WLC to buy more time elsewhere from Europe. Even 500 kW from Maine to everywhere just won`t cut it on a single frequency every season, every hour. Furthermore, 13570 is a very bad choice: on the border with the ISM/HIFER band 13550-13570. Would blow away those very lowpower signals, including RF IDs? down to 13560 if not even lower. Could 13570 have meant via some site other than Maine? Or using WBCQ as a placeholder while they arrange some other relays. Via UTwente I do detect a VP signal sounding Arabic, zero-beating on about 13570.35, but the SynchAM lox onto the signal at 13570.523. By 1917 it has drifted down to JBA 13570.518. I start to check other KiwiSDRs, such as Kuwait? Nothing there. Smax of a spur. At UTwente I start bandscanning upward for some strong Arabic signal which might be the source, soon finding two: 13670 MWV Madagascar, R. Feda in Arabic, and even stronger 13685, which is CRI. Back to 13570.512 at 1927, but it goes off at 1928*. CRI Mali is scheduled in Arabic until 1930, and indeed is gone when I get back there, so that`s a close match, altho could not make an audio parallel. Also it`s at 20 degrees so puts a very strong signal onward into Europe. There could also be a matching spur 114.48 kHz on the plus side, i.e. 13799.48, no chance to check. MWV of course is still going on 13670 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5085, UT Sun April 11 at 0030 & 0045 chex, WTWW-2 rock music distorted instead of `Theatre Organ Under the Arch`, so no need to go to the webcast, which is still blocked as a dangerous site anyway (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 13845, April 11 at 1821, WWCR is S9+10 here with YL huxtress, presumably PMS, discussing circumcision; while 15825 is usual JBA carrier. Therefore the sporadic E MUF is somewhere between them; an hour later there`s a 25 MHz patch over NW Georgia on DXMAP (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 3215, Apr 12 at 0546, WWCR is S9+20 of dead but noisy air instead of TOMBS, now more apropos a monicker than ever. 4840 is OK with oldtimeradio; 5890 with TOMBS like still on 5850 WRMI. I notice that a lot of times now, they are playing BS attempting to sing, sometimes lapsing into glossolalia. That must mean he`s divinely inspired with godspeak! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 1319.717v, April 10 at 0607 UT, way-off-frequency het still detectable from previously identified WCOG, Greensboro NC. But nothing on 1540.200v from WKVQ Eatonton GA, daytimer which sometimes manages to go off at night (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 11835, Ron Howard, CA, replies to my previous logs: ``Hi Glenn, Clearly the propagation conditions change a great deal for 11835 reception; changing on a daily basis. April 8 (Thursday), checked 11835, from 0451 to 0705 UT. At tune in there was certainly only one station being heard (R. Vanuatu harmonic), with no trace at all of CNR2; at 0500, no hint of time pips from CNR2. About 0545, started to hear CNR2 fading in; 0600, clear China time pips and RV extremely weak (totally unusable) underneath; CNR2 continued to gain in strength, while RV got harder to hear underneath. 7890 and 3945, both unheard. Normally RV does start the news about one minute or so after the hour. Their intro is indeed always with the same theme music; consisting of indigenous horns and drums, making for a very unique sound; ending the news with a different theme music. Ron`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 11835, April 9 at 0551, presumed R. Vanuatu X3 is JBA, yet the OSOB, therefore also the SSOB (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 11835, April 10 at 0557, JBA carrier, OSOB again presumed 3 x 3945 R. Vanuatu; but NZ will soon take over 11725, q.v. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 11835, April 13 at 0609, no signal at all here from 3 x 3945 R Vanuatu, nor CNR2 as sked; suspect RV be absent, as still getting Chinese on 11895 S9 from presumed Saipan (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VENEZUELA. 6205.039v, April 13 at 0138, ROCV, poor only noisy S6-S7 into TWR Bonaire SDR, romantic music with loud noise bursts every few seconds, which seem to be transmission or feed defect rather than QRM. 0143.5 Morse code ID cuts thru but barely readable talk including ``R-O-C-V``, back to vocal music. Still the same past 0208. At 0235 I check 6205 direct to here: as usual ROCV achieves no more than a JBA carrier --- but the noise bursts hit S8, *much* stronger now, as loud as they were in Bonaire, while ROCV can`t surpass the background noise level of S2-3. Therefore the bursts *are* external QRM against poor ROCV, not its own defect. Further, I can now tell that the noise is on LSB only, inaudible in USB. At 0310, Bonaire is still running as I hear another ROCV ID in code and voice go by, continuing VP with the noise bursts, also LSB only. Maybe time for another QSY? Has ROCV been off? Last report of it I find was April 4 by Manuel Méndez, Spain. I had not sought it lately; my last log was April 1 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VENEZUELA. 6205.038, April 13 at 2356, ROCV with dance music, S8-S9 via TWR Boa Vista, Brasil SDR, distorted but stronger than TWR Bonaire was getting it, and now S5-S6 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 4905, April 14 at 0553, JBA carrier vs CODAR. Normally hear nothing, sometimes RTTY. Certainly not Tibet at midday there, leaving R. Relógio Federal, Brasil, which is sometimes reported but not by me. IIRC despite the legacy timesignal name, it`s gospel-huxter programming, the only other known possibility; unless another ute (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 7828-USB, April 14 at 0055, 2-way in Spanish, repeatedly referring to Ecuador (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 13557.7-LSB, April 12 at 1417, 2-way in Spanish, impinging into the ISM band (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 13570.52v, Arabic? spur: see USA: WBCQ TECSUN PL-880 problems: this has been my main handy portable when I am away from the main desktop receivers, or when I want to make a quick check for a //. Mine is some 8 years old, and for the last year or more has developed some real problems. Some of the number buttons hard to engage, and so was the ON/OFF button until finally, I could not get it to turn off, except by temporarily removing the Lithium Ion battery (which was recently replaced after an 8-year run of the original rechargeable --- not bad there!). Now it`s off, but the button refuses to turn it back on. Fortunately my savvy technical assistant fixed that by inserting a tiny bit of plastic or something so it would make proper contact. Also inserted a thin layer of foam over the keypad, as the original had deteriorated. This came from fruit boxes in a grocery store! Unfortunately, the other major problem, both fast and slow tuning knobs going haywire with minds of their own, even when not even touched; or going down when tuned upward or vice versa, could not be so easily fixed without replacement parts. There will be no bandscanning or fine-tuning. One can only punch in a frequency and then hurriedly lock it in before it go away. There is also not a chance to adjust bandwidth which also changes by itself. So I again warn those expecting multi-year life out of this receiver to beware, especially of used ones. I wonder if other Tecsuns behave so badly as they age (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
