** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, Feb 17 at 2300 and earlier, no advance publicity about an LRA36 broadcast this Saturday, but I check anyway. Argentine remotes are tied up but I get into a Brazilian, indeed no signal past 2300. But I must have squelched too much, since de-squelched at 2315, there it is in Spanish vs lots of lightning static - yet Blitzortung shows a blank continent except for one tiny spot in the western Amazon and another south of Panamá. 2318 into music, but soon more talk. Argentine remote then with less lightning but more line noise static. Still going past 2400. Walt Salmaniw was getting it direct in BC measured down to 15475.975 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, Feb 18 until 0100*, like last week, LRA36 goes off right on time after the Sat 2300+ broadcast, rechecking Argentine remote; see previous report (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RCUSB, Feb 21 at 2057 tune-in via Argentine remote, LRA36 already on air with music; advance publicity of a test today at 21-22; perhaps at a time earlier than 23 for convenience of Europeans. It`s S7 with roar, which stops at 2100 for s/on in the clear, then multi-lingual LRA36 ID, songs; 2105 & 2111 multi-lingual RAE IDs instead. Aside from those, seems all-music. They are asking for reports and evaluating quality. No signal direct at 2136 check and not further monitored as it`s nap-time. I can`t blame RAE for involving with this, but continues to raise the question of why can`t they get back on air with new/powerful SW transmitter(s) in the real Argentina? Not that we`re eager to hear more from the wacko new government (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** BRAZIL. 15415.00, Feb 20 at 2253, JBA signal, presumably R. Clube de Ribeirão Preto, long inactive. Has been reported reactivating, not to be a SW station again, but to become eligible for a second FM frequency to replace it in the `AM to FM` migration. So it may not last long. How cynical. Our first news of this: ``My Brazilian colleague reports that he was last week working at "Sistema Clube of Ribeirão Preto in order to put the 15415 kHz back on the air." The transmitter is a Philips 1 kW box, circa 1965 (Ben Dawson, Hatfield-Dawson Consulting Engineers, Feb 3)`` Then earlier Feb 20: ``Rádio Clube de Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo, Brazil, reactivates its old transmitter on short waves, at a frequency of 15415 kHz. They did this because the Brazilian government expanded the law for migrating radio stations from medium waves to FM, also including concessions in short waves and tropical waves. This could result in the temporary return of many inactive Brazilian radio concessions on tropical waves and short waves. When they reactivate the short wave and tropical wave frequencies, they will request migration to FM and thus the owners gain another FM radio. 73 Jorge Freitas, Feira de Santana, Bahia`` No doubt it would be better via SAm remotes I haven`t tried yet but others have. An excellent frequency choice as EiBi, Aoki and HFCC show absolutely nothing else on 15415 ever. Axually merely coincidental (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** BRAZIL. 15415, Feb 21 at 2314, JBA carrier, presumably temporary reactivation of ZYE955 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CANADA. 28170 CW, Feb 19 at 2311, VVV DE VA3XCD/B and repeated. Next broadcast at 1600: audible on 11760, S9/+20 but noisy, s/on claiming 0800 on 6100, 1600 on 11760. 15140 had also secretly applied but is off as usual altho as previously logged was active at night. At 1534, Ron Trotto, IL, was hearing RHC Spanish on 15005, but not when I checked after 1600. Something`s always wrong at RHC. Someone reported that a B23 schedule has finally appeared on website, now that season is almost over, but I can`t get beyond the homepage / portada, http://www.radiohc.cu where the dropdown DE INTERES stalls on two different browsers. However the NOSOTROS link worx going to RHC history and from bottom of that page we get to B23: https://www.radiohc.cu/de-interes/frecuencias BUT this is a very reduced Spanish-only including imaginary transmissions: 9710 at 22-05; 11850 at 22-06; 15230 at 00-06. We can also get indirectly to the English pages including https://www.radiohc.cu/en/de-interes/frecuencias for B23 showing nothing but: San Francisco 6100 05-07 = imaginary; Chicago 15140 20-21 = usually missing; Washington 6000 01-07 at least partially usually with badmod. The Esperanto B23 shows Sunday 0800 & 1600 only, altho third time continues to be announced (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 5025, Feb 19 at 0815, S9+25 of dead air in Spanish from R. Rebelde. No problem here to 21630. Not in current HFCC, EiBi or Aoki, but in DRMrx at 11-12 only from TDF, no further details. In BC-DX, Wolfgang Bueschel presents a tentative HFCC A24 DRM TEST sked from TDF ISS, on 28 frequencies, but only 21755 on 13m. Cuts on late at *1600:50 VG S9/+15 but just barely modulated! 1606 I bring up Maryland SDR to find it also S9/+15 and JBM but somewhat readable by turning volume way up. There is also continuous weaker clatter underneath, OTHR? It`s all in German or maybe Frisian bits until 1623 ID in English. Brief English segments explaining what`s being discussed, 1635 mentions WW II, also at 1642, 1654. 1637 recheck direct, still JBM unreadable. 1640 German ID with frequency, contact info, 1641 same in English, 500 kW. 1643 YL voice and others with background noises. 1657 full ID in English as R. Amrum, starts German but chopped off air incomplete at 1658*. A few years ago something went wrong with this and there was a make-good a few days later. They should be entitled to that again, with normal modulation! For this traditional once-a-year event, you`d think TDF would make sure to get it right the first time. With this and other monitored problems, why would anyone risk buying time on Issoudun? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** GUYANA [and non]. 24945 USB, Feb 17 at 1937, XE1TD uttering his call from time to time, doesn`t say what for! Amid pileup. It`s had long temporary outages before (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 27185 AM, Feb 17 at 1930 UT, praise music, and 1932 ``another positive song will change your day``: again some local Enid CBer relaying an FM station, but I don`t have an FM radio handy to make a match. Steady S9+20 generally atop the pileup except for one strong interruptor. Still going at 2031 when I do make a match on the ATS909 tuned to 105.5 and the D-808 on 27185. I.e., relaying K288FX which relays KYLV 88.9 on the so-called `K-Love` network (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 27185 AM, Feb 18 at 1552 UT, again/still today, local Enid CBer relaying praise music from matching 105.5, K288FX, ``K-Love``. This of course amounts to a pirate broadcast. Of course there is a huge pileup on this major CB channel, but I wonder if anyone can make out this music at skip distances (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 27185 AM, Feb 19 at 1648 check, CB relay of K288FX 105.5 is not on air now from Enid; nor after 2300 (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 27185 AM, Feb 21 at 2313, CB skip pileup while no local relay of K288FX gospel music from 105.5. You never know if or when this will happen nor which station will be relayed. This appeared on HCDX at 2138 UT Feb 21, as if in reply to my previous inquiry, but avoid being explicit about that: ``27185 khz AM checked frequently on February 19 & 20. Tropo up Feb 21, Enid on western edge of blobs as predicted by https://tropo.f5len.org/north-america/north-america-west-coast/ We are hardly on the west coast but this is the map including OK area and almost as far east as the Mississippi River. -- while the APRS maps I habitually checked first have been blank for several days worldwide! Do others see them that way? https://vhf.dxview.org/ A third VG site is predictive only: https://www.dxinfocentre.com/tropo.html I start DTV STB tuning at 1625 UT and find many BAD signals on `open` hi-VHF and UHF channels. Local K17JN-D, mislabeled ``K17JI-D``, is BAD due to DX QRM, presumably full-power KTEN Ada. Only decodes are RF 20 KQCW 19-1 Muskogee/Tulsa mkt, and TBN-HD, no further ID, on RF 36. Checking FCC TV Query, that is surely KDOR Bartlesville. Both fade by 1700. BTW I see in rabbitears.info that K17JN-D listing has still not been updated with my latest monitored info which I also sent directly to `Trip` -- wonder if he would rather not be contradicted? I continue to find his website invaluable, except for this (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** SPAIN. 9690, Fri Feb 16 at 2310, token English from SNR, VG S9+30/40 into Maryland SDR. Or more likely, ``Flaca`` = the skinny girl (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 9690: Reply to my Feb 19 log of SNR English closing with song ``La Flaca``: ``Hello Glenn, I heard the same program on REE yesterday and just saw your log in the IO group. I remember buying the Jarabe de Palo (medicine from Palo?) CD back in 1996. The name of their first album was La Flaca, the skinny girl, I presume. It actually has some really good acoustic and harder rock songs on it. It's been a long time favorite of mine. I even remember being at a baseball game in Ciudad Obregón, México around 2003 and they were playing Jarabe de Palo on the speaker system in between innings. I started singing along and my Mexican work colleagues were quite amazed that I knew who Jarabe de Palo was. I was very saddened yesterday to learn that the lead singer had died. He had a really great voice. Preview topic to be about the European Cyber-Security Act, required by increasing cyber-attacks. 2301 news; 2306 feature. 2307 signal fades down considerably. This must come from CNR8 Mongolian program via Beijing site, nothing else now scheduled. S/off of English is underway, seems like long version with all-wrong times, but hard to copy. 2226 IS is still running now with IDs in Italian, ``Qui la Voce della Turchia`` -- or are they saying ``Tuerkiye``? They sound so much alike. 2230 continues Italian, but hard to copy with almost equal signal from China, both mostly music. Like German after 0000 and Portuguese after 0100 on 5960, Italian at 2230 is mistaken overrun, not on B23 schedule where the only Italian is supposed to be at 0930! Same SAH situation at 2300 when I expect English to overrun on 9610 instead of 5960, but switching to 5960 I do find it on with VG S9+30/40 signal into UTwente opening English; retune immediately back to 9610, now I hear CNR8 only, so TRT must have QSYed at the same time I did. Or on this date not really same Emirler transmitter, where something is always erroneous. As for the 5960.005 broadcast, I have to split time with SPAIN and WOR/WRMI check. 2320 `WYEH` promo, music. 2324 `Weekly Analysis` on relations with Egypt improving since the coup there in 2013y. Erdogan and large delegation now visiting Cairo. Not noted IS and cutoff time, but not on after 0000, just East Turkistan, standard denunciations (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960.005, Feb 17 at 2300, VOT English not off the air, S9+40/50 into UTwente, s/on as the 1330 broadcast for Feb 17, news. 2310 `The Energy Agenda` about The Sun and what Turkey is spending. [Then checking LRA36]. After 2330 mostly music including unusual hard rock until 2337 switch to a softer pop tune. 2353 s/off, 2354 IS. CCCCCCI audible during pause, 2356 restart IS but chopoff before German IDs can begin, totally uncovering XJRTV, std denunciations (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960+, Feb 18 at 2300, VOT English not off the air, VG into UTwente, but no time to listen now, rather UBMP; so I catch the last repeat of the `Sunday` program: 6125.005, UT Monday Feb 19 at 0400, VOT English, VG S9/+15 into Maryland SDR, no need for UTwente. S/on and news voiced by the badax as I zone out. 0414 repeat the `Weekly Analysis` about Turco/Egypto relations. I keep waiting for the `Letterbox` but almost give up: 0419 ``with-you-every-hour`` promo. 0423 song. 0427 multi-lingual ID filler reel. 0429 music. 0434 *finally* `Letterbox` starts some 17 minutes later than before. Usual host, very informal, acknowledging almost nothing but reception reports wanting QSLs, from: India and wants lots of other promo goodies, sorry; Russia, none other than Anatoly Klepov, Moscow, editor of RUS`-DX; someone from Young Stars Radio Club, Hyderabad, India; Konstantin Barsenkov, St Pete, Russia, also in RUS`-DX; Belgium; Andy from UK, no postal address; Tamil Nadu with WRDay greetings; Germany; Gavin Waters, Australia advising of overmodistortion; Canada; Tarek Zeidan, Egypt. Nice to hear several familiar names from our contributors. VOT guy gives their postal address but never spells Yenisehir as if every new, or old, listener recognize it! Axually it`s Yenişehir with a cedilla under the S which make it sh-sounding, name of a municipality of Ankara. And both i`s are dotted! You will be wasting your time looking for a postal address or much of anything about this SHORTWAVE station at the TRT website, sidetracking into TRT WORLD, i.e. video. BTW the PO Box number is 333 as announced, not merely 33 as in WRTH 2024, where Y--- is also cedillaless. Back to the rest of the broadcast. LBox ends at 0446, more music fill; 0453 s/off for the 1330 broadcast only: something`s always awry at Ankara; 0454 IS; 0456 restart IS but chopoff at 0457* before German or any other language IDs; expecting Malay which starts elsewhere at 0500; or Turkish (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960.005, Feb 19 at 2310, JBA direct vs HNL, VOT not off the air; 2349 into UTwente when measured, S9+40/45 with ``ABYS`` promo between musix. 2354 ``WYEH`` promo and s/off as if the 1330 on 13635. 2355 IS. 2356 restart IS with German IDs to 2357*. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler. BTW, 5960 occasionally prolonged another hour for German, and rarely another2 hour from 0100 in Portuguese, a language not on the original B23 schedule at all but evidently in the program feed. But now it`s official: via Manuel Méndez, Célio Romais in Brasil says it`s heard at 0100 Feb 18 on 7280 and that frequency is announced (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY [and non]. 9610.007, Feb 20 at 2300, VOT English s/on recognizable but VP despite S9/+10 on meter direct. Found here after nothing on correct 5960 a few minutes earlier. 9610 is supposed to run at 2130-2226 only for the previous English broadcast. At 2330 I check UTwente: still nothing but XJRTV in Chinese from EAST TURKISTAN. 9610 still with VOT but extremely heavy CCI equal strength totalling S9+15/20, which must be the only other schedulee, CNR8 Mongolian from Beijing site. TRT includes 2337 outro `Weekly Commentary`, 2342 `Turkey`s Geomarked [sic] Products`. Hey, let`s make it two totally wrong broadcasts! Stays on 9610 past 0000 Feb 21 with German which is not supposed to be on SW at all. The QRM soon abates, CNR8 off earlier than expected 0100? But CRI Hakka via Kunming starts at 0000. Some breakup in German mod, finally offchopped at 0008? No, that`s my Internet interrupted! Back on by 0015, still German with lots of CCCCCCI. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.003, Feb 21 at 2311, JBA carrier direct and a slightly stronger JBA carrier on 9610; which is VOT? By 2334 I check UTwente, when measured. VOT 5960 is VG S9+40, something else on 9610 presumably China, unlike yesterday. 2340 weekly report about something. I refuse to strain to try to understand what the badax is saying; besides, I`m mainly attentive to BBC World News America on OETA 13/13. 2351, two-minute multi-lingual ID filler reel. 2354, s/off for 1330 broadcast only. 2354.6, IS starts. 2355.3* chop off air uncovering XJRTV in Chinese, std genocidal denunciations (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 8992 USB, Feb 15 at 1605, ``This is Raindrop`` and fonetix: TDVUC7 repeated, then alfanumeric ``message follows`` starting with those same 7. Force Direction Messages (FDM's) are also sent through the HFGCS, although it is impossible to tell whether the message is an FDM or just another EAM being read. Although transmissions are often single sideband (SSB), the use of the ALE transmission mode is more and more common. HFGCS complements the use of satellite communications between aircraft and ground stations. If you hear echo on the frequency you’re listening to, it is due to the signal often being transmitted over several stations at the same time.`` I have not happened upon a Skyking Message in many years (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 8992 et al., re Skyking messages among EAMs, not heard in years: ``USA/HFGCS I haven't heard a Sky King message since Kirby Grant passed away (Chuck Albertson, Seattle, Wash.)`` https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirby_Grant ``Kirby Grant Movie actor --- born Kirby Grant Hoon Jr., was a long-time B movie and television actor, mostly remembered for having played the title role in the Western-themed adventure television series Sky King.
