DX/SWL/MEDIA PROGRAMS update: http://www.worldofradio.com/dxpgms.html ** ANTARCTICA. ``LRA 36 R Nac Arcángel San Gabriel. Next test transmission programmed for Friday, Feb 2, 23.00-01.00 (Saturday, Feb 3). --- Próxima transmisión de prueba de LRA36. Viernes 2/2 desde las 23.00 UTC hasta las 01.00 UTC de sábado 3/2 en 15476 USB. (Adrian Korol, RAE, Argentina via Horacio Nigro, Uruguay, DXnosaurs WSP group, translated, adapted). -- Horacio Nigro, CX3BZ, "La Galena del Sur", Montevideo, Uruguay`` (via Glenn Hauser, WORLD OF RADIO 2228) ** ANTARCTICA. 15476 RC USB, Feb 2 at 2308, another test as publicized from LRA36 - direct reception the best here in a long time, well above local noise level of S3/S5 so quite readable, S5/S7 with music, RAE multilingual ID, then 2309 RNASG ID. At 2325 I switch to favorite Argentine remote where it`s S9/+10, mostly music. With that strength I can barely perceive there still be a reduced carrier, as in USB I tune downward, but can`t really pinpoint it to .98 as before. 2359 ``somos un nuevo sonido para su radio``; pause and seeming live announcement to listen again tomorrow at 23 UT for the first program of the new season; was it `Uniendo Voces`? Not sure what he called it; nothing more. Originally publicized to be two hours long, later only one (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** ANTARCTICA. 15476 RCUSB, Sat Feb 3 at *2300 as publicized 23 hours earlier, LRA36 back with another broadcast, JBA S5/S6 = local noise level direct, but S9/+10 into Argentine SDR - soon all four rx are tuned to this and I get one of them. 2308 about history of base. 2310 the `Antártida` song we haven`t heard for a while; 2314 ``en vivo``, ``haciendo soberanía`` and then long interview about scientific research, military involvement. Staking out Arg. ``sovereignty`` over Antarctica is the real reason for all this, contrary to ``international continent`` treaties. 0010 Feb 4 still going asserting it`s the first program of 2024. Wonder if this will be regular time instead of 18-24+ UT Sats. Again I do detect the JBA reduced carrier by USB stepping-down tuning, as someone else was doing before I inherited the rx. Also wonder if the eventual new 10 kW will too. 0013 chops off air during music. 0015.5 comes back during music after a false start; 0016 another ``haciendo soberanía`` ID, more gab. At 0019 I compare the pitch of the RC when tuned to 15475.50 USB vs 15476.50 LSB - and it is lower on the upper side, indicating the RC is slightly above 15476 instead of below; and taking into account a slight correxion factor when tuned to 15000.000 WWV. 0028 they say the new 10 kW transmitter will be solid-state and will build a different antenna to replace the rhombic (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** ANTARCTICA. 15476 RCUSB, continued from last report, LRA36, sudden chopoff at 0121* UT Sun Feb 4 into Argentine SDR, and no return. Some others were trying to pinpoint the JBA reduced carrier, but led to different spots below 15476. Maybe it vary (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** BRAZIL [and non]. 4885, Feb 7 at 0423, no signal direct from Pará, definitely off as other S Americans are at usual levels on 4810, 4940, 4985 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CANADA. 15031 USB, Feb 6 at 1646, Trenton Military, ``no report received`` on wrong frequency! instead of 15034. This implies that a human being mispunched a frequency keypad; yet is oblivious to the total futility and uselessness of these radiations. As always takes a break at :00-:10 & :30-:40. And this at *2110 UT: back on 15031 into VE6JY remote, with another slight problem, time as ``1610 UTC`` instead of EST. Meanwhile this came at 2010: ``Hi Glenn, Yes, the saga at Trenton Military VOLMET continues --- It is observed today that the daytime frequency has shifted to 15031.0 kHz (vice 15034.0 kHz). 15031.0 kHz is a valid MACS frequency, but to the best of my knowledge is still assigned as a "discrete" frequency. That has given me another opportunity to fire off an e-mail to MACS with regards to the frequency, the Eastern Daylight time zone (vice UTC) and the NRRs. I did notice though that there was a couple of valid reports today; Shannon and Keflavik. More to follow, Richard Lacroix`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CANADA. 6754 USB, Feb 7 at 0048, CHR, Trenton Military is not on wrong frequency like 6751, checked into Missouri SDR. More about 15031 USB instead of 15034 earlier on Feb 6: ``[WOR] Trenton VOLMET on 15031 USB today --- I often will tune in Trenton merely as an indicator of how propagation is at my location. After all, with all of the "no report received" repetition in the spoken information, it's not a great font of information. Today, however, something a bit odd: Instead of being at 15034 USB as usual, it's migrated down to 15031 USB, where I heard it at 2109 UTC. Good reception on that frequency, though there seemed to be a loud carrier hum/tone accompanying the information. Eric Fetters-Walp, Lake Stevens, Washington`` ``RE: Trenton a waste --- Hi Glenn, I am suspecting they are going through "growing pains". MACS, along with all other Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) strategic HF stations, are scheduled for technology upgrades. What I have recently noticed on a few occasions is the VOLMET audio feed being transmitted on 11232.0 kHz USB for a short duration. I am suspecting that there are growing pains with the switch matrix. There are several switch matrices at MACS which routes control/data, audio etc --- from the receivers and transmitters to the various sites and antennae. What I have also noticed are regular system checks, "This is Trenton Military testing 1 2 3 3 2 1 test out". This leads one to believe that there is a lack of confidence in the way the sites are operating, thus necessitating the system confidence check. I have also noticed within the last few weeks that HFGCS is going through some pain as well. Lots of "no response" to radio checks and check-ins. There also appears to be some new digital audio links which I have now heard fail on several occasions, including this past weekend, rendering the system from that site completely unserviceable. There is something to be said about the old fashion analogue technology. Richard`` Lacroix, Canada 15034 USB, Feb 7 at 1619, CHR is back on proper frequency with no-report-receiveds. Also, from Richard Lacroix at 1420: ``Back on frequency as of 07 Feb 2024 with NRRs. No updates on the time zone and NRR issues. Richard`` And at 2044 UT 07 Feb: ``Hi Glenn, I had a good chat with the folks at MACS today and it looks like we have now worked out all of the bugs and VOLMETs are once again functioning. Richard`` 6754 USB, Feb 7 at 0028, good into Maryland SDR, numerous reports have been received!! Aviation weather but not terminal forecasts: NRR Victoria, Comox, Vancouver, Abbotsford. 0030 ID, time 0030 zulu! Aviation weather for Zagreb, etc., other Europeans NRR. Next repeat does get Zagreb. In the best of times, there would be at least some NRRs (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CANADA. 28175 MCW, Feb 4 at 2150, continuous carrier stands out. Between long pauses, ID as DE VE3TEN. But again with parasitic wobbly spurs approx. plus/minus 4.4 kHz around 11755.6 and 11764.4; also multiples even more diffuse about 11768.8, 11773.2. Jammers sound louder on 11860 & 11930 but obscured by that Grimesland NC station. 15140 is off. At least Cuba tries to block it, hi, inadvertently since the jamming is leftover originally against long-abandoned R. Martí frequency. The mix overnight possible only on weekends when 5890 be active. On inside randomwire due to T-storms (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA [non]. 15140 & 11760, Feb 3 at 1637, both absent, the only two midday frequencies. Something`s always wrong at RHC. I.e. from the start of DST March 10 which is still winter, not even spring! As the running dog of Yanqui Imperialism matches USA nonsense. There are far too many truly tiny islands to compare it with, but among nations, how about Monaco? More than 5,769 Monacos could fit into Jamaica.
