Come to think of it, have not run across it lately. Perhaps the Time Lords have banned it until they fix their clox. Still no signs of it at many random chex later, direct and via Maryland. Altho propagation has been degraded. Also check for night frequency 6754 USB. And/or compare to Gander VOLMET on USB: 3485, 6604, 10051, 13270 at :20, :50. 13270 OK into Maryland before 1900 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CANADA. Further random check of 6754 USB during the night of August 1 UT, and of 15034 USB during the following day have not found any signals from CHR, Trenton Military VOLMET. Nor on August 2. Several similar sigs on 31m band only, the sweet spot now for such propagation. BTW Aoki still has Solomon Islands the only other on 9545, at 22-05, but believed inactive, not reported in longtime (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CHINA. 21490, July 31 at 2339, JBA carrier with flutter is the only signal on band - OSOB. In regular bandscans I had been crossing a JBA offset carrier, but not logged. Now there is also a JBA carrier on 6010, probably Brasil rather than still inactive sibling station LV de tu Conciencia. Ron Howard also replied: ``Greetings, Manuel, from California. July 27, at 0742 & 0910 UT, heard a decent level carrier on 5910 kHz, but no audio at all; normally in the past I always had good audio here.`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2201) ** CUBA. 6100, July 27 at 0646, undermodulated Spanish with humbuzzwhine, no doubt RHC where something`s always wrong. 5025, July 27 at 0650, S9+20/30 of dead air except for some humbuzz, from R. Rebelde, something`s always wrong at Radio Cuba. And after the one reported active "sunset" session, HM01 has been quiet again since, at least for the local midday and sunset schedules. I have not checked the madrugada scheduled times and freqs.`` Ron Howard, CA replies later on July 27: Cuba (5025) noted at 0743 & 0909 UT, with strong carrier, along with a strong hum, but no audio. It`s the only log I make this late-night due to horrible S9+10 noise level all over the bands: suspect from neighbor and/or thru power lines. I may have to rely even more on remote receivers, but many of them also have `line noise` problems. Abated by 15 UT enough to tell that propagation is now degraded (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 15230, July 28 at 2316, RHC S9/+10 of dead air. Cairo is on at S9+35/40 with extremely distorted and undermodulated music during ``English`` sesquihour. Something`s always egregious in Egypt, abysmal at Abis. WRTH shows 2 x 125 kW at Abis only (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** EGYPT. 9440.004, August 2 at 2155, R. Cairo horribly distorted English, first reading by UTwente, maybe synching on a mod peak other than carrier center, then settling on usual 9439.995 at S9+20/40; totally unlistenable. Something`s always egregious in Egypt (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** GUAM. 11590, July 29 at 1457, unID language, fair signal and off. This one really was KTWR in Kazakh at 1445-1500 per EiBi, as I tuned on to 11880, see SWAZILAND (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KURDISTAN [non]. 17450.002, August 1 at 1546, S7/S9 into UTwente, ME music. 1550 there is slightly offset CW QRM, mainly sending numbers. Now there are two stations making fast SAH, one talking and one musicking; obviously Dengê Welat and Recep`s jammer. Later by 1615 the additional warbling QRM is like fast RTTY. Why doesn`t D.W. move away? Perhaps the jamming be not nearly so effective as it seem from afar. Basic propagation tells us that the higher the frequency, the further the skip zone. Uzbekistan to Kurdistanish Turkey may be optimum, while Emirler as a jamming source in central Turkey may be way too close, but makes Recep feel good, at least trying to censor it. Emirler to Diyarbakir is 785 km = 488 miles, per distancefromto.net which pinpoints Emirler considerably NW of Ankara near the Black Sea coast, and Bolu, Duzce, Karabuk --- but WRTH 2023 map page 57 nestles Emirler right close to Ankara, just to the south of the capital. Ankara/Diyarbakir: 674 km = 419 miles, even worse. Of course it would require constant monitoring by D.W. PKK HQ, wherever that may be, Belgium per page 673 of WRTH 2023; which also asserted the 11 and 7 MHz frequencies were via Bulgaria; and constant contact with the ops in Tashkent effectively to jump around mousily vs the cattily Turx, but they have done so in the past. I am checking this after hearing nothing in the 17450-17495 range direct, nor had noticed anything for several days at random tunethrus, so could D.W. have made a total frequency change, even to a different band? Apparently not, but direct propagation from Uzbekistan, even Turkey has been degraded. Still clashing past 1800, jamusic generally atop. At 1810, UTwente displays as 17450.010. By 1847 the rapid rippling SAH is even more severe, indicating both signals strong and near equal level. At 1921 again with RTTY warble QRM too. Still past 2000. At 2003 I check direct: two JBA carriers approx. 17450.15 and 17450.26 -- maybe that`s the RTTY transmitter. On UTwente at 2050 now there is only one VG signal with singing, presumably the jammer, on 17450.002. By now D.W. may have closed or faded out near midnight. Still no other signals up to 17500. Still VG music on 17450 past 2137. At 2158 I make a quick switch to 11785 for VOT English. Cuts on shortly after 2200 for a few sex without modulation, then off again. At 2203 I go back to 17450 and find it`s finally off, just the warble QRM. At 2205 I go back on 11785.008 and find it`s back on to stay amid news in English, S9+20. I would not be surprised if it`s the very same transmitter tho can`t be certain on a single receiver whether they overlapped. For B22 WRTH 2023 showed DW until 2200*, but version 17 Aug 1 of the A23 updater shows 17460v until 2100*. I`ve been on UTwente continuously for over 6 hours. It`s a great resource, huge capacity so you can always get on, and no timeouts (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** MALDIVES [non]. 11620, August 2 from a few sex past *1500 open carrier on, S6/S9 direct; finally at 1502 English ID as VOMK, undermodulated; 1503+ switch to YL in presumed Dhivehi with better modulation. This is totally normal daily reception despite target opposite side of globe; and K-index at 15 is 4, which should be disturbing high-latitude paths. 1529 quick ID and s/off in English before 1530*. For over a year this has been listed as Uzbekistan site and some accept that, but I do not. Tashkent does not provide such good reliable reception here for any other broadcast, and V. of Martyrs Korea will not disclose true site for some reason. Reasonable guesses are Taiwan or Reach Beyond Australia, which carries some other VOMK broadcasts. In fact, the latest WRTH update of August 1 now shows under Korea South, 11630knx for this, i.e. Kununurra, Australia. It`s still missing from HFCC; Aoki says Tashkent, and EiBi as clandestine, /XUU = unknown. TDoA direxion-finding in past sometimes pointed to one or the other, but is extremely unreliable. At 1525 I decide to try it again, while hearing it well via Western Australia KiwiSDR: picking 3 sites: Hanoi, Qatar and South Africa. It runs and comes up with ``most likely`` 12.00 S, 18.00 E, i.e. Kuemba, ANGOLA. Yeah, surely not. And what are the chances of a true reading landing on exact .00 coördinates? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** MALI. 17630, July 31 at 1518, JBA OSOB, listed CRI English via Bamako. Not even a JBA carrier on 17790 from WRMI, off? But plenty of signals on 15 MHz band including 15770 WRMI. At 1500 K-index was 2; had been and would be R1 blackouts (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA. 6869.91, July 27 at 0628, JBA presumed Late Night Lunatix, pirate, as Lucas Bandura, who got it identified, also noted it at 0453: ``On right now with music. Weak direct in British Columbia, S7 on the Northern Utah KiwiSDR.`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA. 6869.912 AM, July 29 at 0639, much better signal than before from pirate presumed Late Night Lunatix, S9+10/20 direct in a song. The local S9+10 high line noise level again blocking most DX tuning July 30 until suddenly quits at 0651*. While running, it would typically exhibit split-second breaks every several seconds; as if discharging and building right up again? Does anyone recognize what kind of device might behave thus? (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 1600 kHz, Saturday July 29 at 1506 UT, KUSH Cushing, not with ``Americana`` main music format, but story about bison, 1507 outro National Native News! and ID as Native Voice One, the native American radio network, right into drumming & chanting past 1515. What could be more ``Americana`` than this? NNN had a CPB funding credit, as mostly on public radio. Kudos to private/commercial KUSH for devoting at least an hour a week to this. https://www.1600kush.com/ leads to listen link: http://crystalout.surfernetwork.com:8001/KUSH_MP3 which I switch to as more convenient and hifi than off-air direct 1600. By 1555 more Native News, about Guatemala. More outage until 1609 check now with gospel huxter (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 7620, July 27 at 0633 UT, JBA sportstalk, surprisingly here. Sounds like one of my strongest locals, 1390 KCRC, indeed matches and synchronized. Same program is on 1640 KZLS, but out of synch. How does this get on 7620? It fades a bit and is gone a few minutes later. Suspect external mixing with some strong real SW signal, but plus or minus 1390 leads to nothing likely on 6230 or 9010. Not an obvious harmonic: only even fundamental on MW would be 1270 X 6. Could be some station there on same net, but not in OK (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO ) ** OKLAHOMA. 90.1, KUCO: I had been catching up on episodes of `A Day to Remember` via ``samples`` on the PRX website, but that halted in June, so I asked KUCO about it. As a result they are now available via own website: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/a-day-to-remember/id1699463301 as of Sat July 29 apparently only the past 5 weekday 2-minute episodes (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. I see that the WTFDA FM Database as of July 30 still has not corrected the mistake I outpointed July 7, that 90.1 KUCO is NOT a relay of 95.9 KCSC, but vice versa. Furthermore, the 95.9 KCSC entry does not show it as a relay of 90.1 KUCO, or anything, but remarx that it is // KUCO 91.1, getting that frequency wrong (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. RF17, July 26 in daytime, K17JN-D is definitely back on air at usual local translator strength with satellator panoply of 3ABN subchannels; Enid`s only local TV signal, embarrassingly for a city of 50K. For a while we had locally programmed LPTV, KXOK 32, ``TV-OK``, gone as of 8 years ago. See my log report of July 21, 2015. Note that 7, 18, 24 and 29 are major `local` OKC signals which must be disrupted by DX QRM: extremely unusual especially for KOKH 24, probably by KFSM Fort Smith? No, KFSM is on both low-power 24 and high-power 18. 16 KOCM is normally on the BAD side. 17 is also Enid`s only local: can`t be sure whether it`s off or QRMed, but next morning it`s normal. Tuned up to here after finding Turkey 11785 distortion intolerable. I guess that`s an improvement? But something`s gone wrong at Galbeni. Its other frequency is finely modulated and even stronger, 9740 at S9+30/45, going from `Living Romania` to `In the Spotlite` about the new foreign minister. Both aimed at WEu and t/hence NAm. Also Tsiganeshti VG on 9790 and 11650 for FE, all exactly .000. At 2253, 11800 is still dead; 2255 cut to S7/S8 but apparently not totally off, antenna change, soon powered back up by 2258 and finally modulating IS, 2300 Spanish. At this hour 11650 also continues but the other two frequencies change, per EiBi (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** ROMANIA. Re my July 30 logging of RRI English at 2200 on four frequencies, one of them dead air: https://www.rri.ro/en_gb/two_transmitters_discontinued-2687864 ``Two transmitters discontinued 2023-07-31 13:39:00 România Internaţional Two out of the five transmitters broadcasting RRI's programmes are temporarily suspended as of 1 August The Tiganesti transmitter centre [illustration] Dear friends, the Radio Romania Board of Administrators decided to temporarily suspend the use of 2 out of the 5 Radiocom shortwave transmitters that ensure the broadcast of Radio Romania International programmes, because of budget cuts. As of August 1, our programmes are aired via one transmitter in Ţigăneşti, one in Săftica (both of them near Bucharest) and one in Galbeni (east). As soon as the budget of the institution is restored, we will resume broadcasts on all 5 transmitters. The RRI programmes in Romanian, English, French, German, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Chinese and Hebrew are affected. All of them may be received on only one frequency instead of 2, as of August 1, 2023. The frequencies as well as any other prospective changes operated by Radiocom further to reception monitoring and to your feedback on reception quality will be announced in our broadcasts, on our web page and on Facebook. Budget restrictions also prompted a reduction of the night time power of medium wave transmitters that broadcast Radio Romania News and Current Affairs programmes and of some regional stations. We invite you to follow RRI's programmes online at www.rri.ro (including on demand), on SoundCloud, on Android and iOS apps, via TuneIn and via satellite. You can find more details on our home page. You can also follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn and Spotify.`` Richard Langley replies: ``This message was included verbatim during the half-hour English broadcast today (31 July) starting nominally at 20:30 UTC although there was a minute or so delay for the start today at least for the DRM transmission on 11975 kHz. Also I think as perpetually automated, three more brief blasts in the 0054-0055 minute. It seems both WRMI and the QRMer are satisfied with this arrangement! Never mind victimized programmers. Updates from George McClintock July 31, notes from a phone call: KVOH: transmitters have already been scrapped. George would like to have been able to get some parts. Not clear about antennas yet. Their LPFM is still running, but depends on lease for site continuing. Apparently are looking for a new SW site in the area, rather than moving into the WTWW site. WTWW: still has not returned to the air at all. He is ``tearing apart`` the #1 transmitter to get it fixed and operational. Owners must come up with minimum $1800/month electric bill whether used or not. House on site is in VG condition, liveable. A church is considering buying the property, wanting 9 acres but is only 7.1. Realtor thinks it`s worth more than $600K. Original cost for WTWW to buy it was #275K, underpriced. Previous owner was a perpetual motion scammer who skipped town after a phony demonstration which was really hooked up to powerline (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 15610, July 31 at 2344 discussion of angels and demons, S1/S4 - since American accents, first guess is CRI, but no ChiCom listed, rather WEWN English until 2400 as still registered in HFCC and listed in Aoki despite having been off air for many months. DXMAPS keep showing possible sporadic E paths reaching OK, so I brave the oven car for some quick bandscans, finally installing the box fan in the back seat. Later I search on RADIO BINGO 88.1 and discover that this is mainly a Canadian thing. CJWE in Alberta is part of a province-wide network of RB, but dates of games do not include this one. Another one is CFRH in Ontario, claiming it`s bilingual bingo, but obviously French is primary. I heard no hint of anything Canadian, certainly not francophone. Furthermore, it`s not resuming until September. Another2 one is in Perth ON, Lake 88.1 = CHLK-FM. But it`s Tuesdays at 6:10 pm. Further down the search results are too many other stations, some of which may have only bingoed years ago, or not really on 88.1: WYPR, KDHX, WWER, CKBW, KJCB, KBTL, KDNK, CHEC, CKBI, CJEC. Not really worth deep searches into all of those for a bingo show right now. Does anyone know of a station, even in America, that calls bingo on a Sunday night? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED.
