I do tune from 2309 via Argentine remote, not hearing it but instead some intermittent rather musical utilitones. Can be roughly once a minute or much less often, to 2240. Sounds like same sequence each time. They last only a few sex, never enough time to try to pinpoint the reference/carrier frequency if any. I do also hear them on 15478 where the tones are of course quite different. I suppose these have nothing to do with LRA36? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** AUSTRALIA. 28262 CW, April 21 at 2304, beacon with long dash and VK2RSY -- a Q code follows and a few more symbols, ending in AH. JBA and needed repeated passes to copy this much. Not much else on 10m. It happens that VK2RSY was recommended by VK4RST in his reply to me earlier in April as one of the few other active VK beacons. Had not heard 6100 for weeks. Nominal sked was 05-07 English, extended to 0730 for Esperanto, Sundays. Something`s not wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2187) ** CUBA. 11760, UT Sunday April 23 at 0653, RHC jazz music, presumed English hour on wrong frequency, only one still on air on any band; also undermodulated but S9. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 6100, April 24 at 0630, RHC English still on proper frequency, during extreme propagation disturbance, but unusual flutter on S9/+10 signal, and also some `rumble`, unclear source of that. WRTH update does not show any PP at 2030, and 15140 supposed to stop at 2030 after French. Likewise per EiBi, while Aoki still shows winter timings of 2000-2100 English, 2100-2130 French! Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 11462, April 25 at 0642, suspicious carrier and then JBA spy numbers in Spanish, plus some digiblaaps. Usually these are loud & clear, but still not recovered from geomag storm. Jamming against nothing on 11860 & 11930 also weakened. However, EiBi shows sked for this is: 0454-0550 & 0854-0950 Tue/Thu Sat. At this time supposed to be on 14375. Inaudible direct, but good and steady S7 into UTwente SDR; best on LSB to avoid STANAG? noise. Sends RPI several times, and spells out RADIO PIRANA -- with a plain N rather than Ñ or NH. Walt Salmaniw, BC, has been complaining of degraded trans-Pacific MW conditions (Glenn Hauser, OK, April 23, WOR) ** KIRITIMATI. 846 kHz, April 25 at 0511 UT, JBV carrier trace on the waterfall of Kaneohe, Oahu SDR, so R. Kiribati is on the air altho not detected direct since April 10. Registers S7 but inaudible. However, no trace at first check 0440. Still nothing direct at 0640 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KURDISTAN [non]. 17470.008, April 23 at 1754, checking for Dengê Welat and Turkish jammer: only signal now in area below 17500 is here, VG S9+35 into UTwente, soft song by YL; 1758 change to OM & chorus with martial music. 1800 YL speaking. Now a trace of something under, but which is which? Splatters out to plus/minus 20 kHz. At 1810, the strong 17470 signal jumps to 17480 as the YL is still speaking, so now it`s splattering on 17470.010 where the other one has been uncovered, about the same offset but only S9+20 with chanting, music. ``To Glenn: Administration of Pridnestrovsky Radiotelecentr informed me on April 13 that Dengê Welat did not use its facilities in short waves because they were out of service due to the attacks suffered. On the frequencies 17450, 17460, 17470, 17475 and 17480 khz alternately record musical programming of Kurdish origin. Broadcasts between 21 and 2130 UT. Frequently, frequency changes are made during broadcasts. Using the Shazam app I was able to find out the name of one of the recordings: "Jin Jiyan Azadi" by Jinma. The translation corresponds in Kurdish to "Woman, Life and Freedom" used by the Kurdish autonomy movement. Information sites such as "Short Wave info", "Short Wave schedules" do not record these transmissions. Any information you publish about it will be valued. 73s Carlos Kostzer, Tucumán, Argentina`` Kai Ludwig replies on the WOR iog to my previous comment: >>> Some conclude that the current site is Uzbekistan, but not sure how firm that be. Glenn <<< ``When they abandoned Kostinbrod again a new transmission appeared for which Ivo Ivanov stated, as always just in three letters, that it came from Tashkent. As a matter of fact it was, at this point!, always noticeably off-frequency and the change from day to night frequency took rather long, so apparently some old equipment, and always the same transmitter. That characteristic frequency offset appears to be gone now. Thus I would say that the matter needs to be assessed again. Grigoriopol could be called the primary transmission facility for Denge Welat and all its previous incarnations (apparently it was always the same radio station from studios at Denderleeuw near Brussels, just with alternating licences and thus names), but it was by no means the only one. Other site usages over the years I'm aware of were Issoudun, Bijeljina, Kostinbrod, Gavar and Samara. Only Bijeljina and Samara can be ruled out now, simply because both stations no longer exist. And it was rather the norm than the exception that more than one station was involved in day-to-day operations, like the previous Grigoriopol-Issoudun combination. References to a certain database are in my opinion of limited use, it meanwhile contains too much outdated data. I fear we're at serious risk of getting lost in a self-reference loop now. Kai`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KURDISTAN [non]. 17460.010, April 26 at 1519, S9+15 into UTwente SDR of a speech, so a Recep Turkish jammer? While 17480.008 has a YL talking, S9+20, so Dengê Welat? Anyhow they are failing to collide, so what`s the point? Something`s always erroneous at Emirler. Next check at 1605: 17480 with OM talking over music background; 17460 with choral music. At 1648: 17460 still music; but 17480 has changed to 17470, with talk at S9+25/35. At 1657 on 17470 I axually perceive a ``Dengê Welat`` ID. That means ``country voice``, preceded by sounded similar to ``inja`` which appears in Farsi IDs as ``here``. Google translate suggests it could be ``li vin`` = ``here`` in Kurmanji Kurdish. At 1737, music and shouting on 17460, weaker than talk on 17470. At 1755, both are finally on same 17460 with a SAH. At 1800 the dominant one crossfades from a vocal song to instrumental music, shortly YL talk, mentioning ``Kurdistan`` several times, but no explicit ID for D.W. heard. At 1839 both are still on 17460, talk and/or music, and the SAH is 2 Hz, as fits for the original .008 and .010 measurements on different frequencies. Not rechecked until 2033, when there is only one signal and on 17470.008, talk S8/S9 with no CCI, 2044 into music. Feature from 2207 is about the opera ``Nixon in China`` being produced for first time in Spain at Royal Opera House = Teatro Real. Interviews with minimalist composer John Adams who considers himself a synthesizer, not innovator, same difference among classical composers. Also with various others involved in the produxion. It`s daunting, as part of the time different singers are not in unison but singing different texts in different keys simultaneously. First produced in 1987y, one sesquidecade after the real event. What about Radio Angela? 5130, still no WBCQ R Angela signal from 0200 UT April 20. Yet, 6160 & 7490 are both carrying military medley, SSB amid extended Hal Turner show. R Angela must be of lowest priority - so the usual 5130 xmtr is broken: why not let it be on one of the others temporarily? Other nights would deprive dead Brother Hystairical of one frequency among many. And what about all the extra transmitters supposedly at Monticello? Jeff White gave them one from WRMI. 3265 could be turned on at same time as all the others, so why not use it now, preferably on 5130 or higher instead? ``Bad tubes``, hard to find. R Angela & listeners may be in for a long wait unless some alternative is used (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2187) ``Uncle Bill responds: At the moment I anticipate Radio Angela not returning to the airwaves before May. There are actually two components to the problem, parts and labor. The late Tom Barna was the engineer in residence on the spot who might have been able to jury rig something together, and he is missed more than ever right now. Timtron and (at the moment) Allan are both some distance away. The 5130 transmitter does legitimately need new tubes which are both hard to find and expensive, hence our increasingly-frequent appeals for financial support. But even with enough benefactors to buy "new" tubes, the station does also need to hire another engineer as well and has been actively recruiting. 7490 is full enough that throwing us there isn't practical and the other frequencies aren't ideal options just now either for other reasons. It would be nice on general principles if listeners who miss us wrote the station to remind it that we are missed when we are gone. --Uncle Bill [Tilford], Curator, Radio Angela, WBCQ The Planet`` (April 21, WOR iog via Glenn Hauser; not in time for WOR 2187) ** U S A. 5130 -16 Hz = 5129.984, UT Monday April 24 at 0200, WBCQ R. Angela is back! on the air, as Bill Tilford notified us a few hours earlier that Timtron had finally fixed the transmitter. Unfortunately this coincides with extreme propagation disturbance, and high storm noise levels. It`s `Concert Hall` with Sir Scratchy introducing UB, but far too poor for any enjoyable listening, S9/+5 into Maryland SDR. At 0219 I check it direct: JBA vs HSNL. At 0231 to Maryland has declined to JBA at 5129.979; and Maine SDR is JBA at 5129.978. Wonder if it`s back to previous power level. In summer anyway this should be on a higher band (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. (7490-), April 22 at 0000, WBCQ webcast of `AAAWWW`. For once, Angela doesn`t ask whether her mike is on, and by golly, it`s not. Only occasional comments from her are being picked up in the backgrouod from Allan`s mike. Plugs their AM 780 and FM 94.7 stations and their wonderful talk, country and rock programming. Mainly talking about transmitters, including 5130 being down. Says they have six transmitters and unspecified number of backups; (so why are only three on air now, including the SuperStition?). 5130 is a 1955 Collins FRT-22 which runs 8 ancient tubes, not being made any more; there are rebuilders but also a shorage of usable duds which can be rebuilt. Chides Timtron as a ``lazy lout`` who hasn`t gone to Monticello to fix 5130 which he could probably do in a semihour (he lives in central Maine). And a couple more times during the hour. Only he and Allan (still in Florida) know how to work on ancient transmitters. Trying to hire two more engineers who know their stuff. For the SS also lost a $245K Thalès tube which failed last month after running only 4 months! Fortunately under warranty but delays in replacing. And it`s the *second* one to fail like that. Made in France, must not be well constructed. 0048 prompts Angela to utter datestamp and contact info - still off-mike. Discussing saving AM car radios, contrary to Ford`s plans. Claims explicitly that Democrats = communists = moonbats, who are against AM radio because it`s mostly conservative talk. 0056 some quick emails (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9330, April 23 at 0655, no signal from WLCR on WBCQ. Something wrong again? Maybe just a break for beam change, as I think they have to cut carrier while rotating. Did not get back to recheck after 0700, zzzz. It is on air April 23 at 1556 in English, only S9 into Missouri SDR, pretends to sign off but stays on air straight thru resuming programming at 1600, no change in strength either.
