** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98-RCUSB, Saturday June 12 from tune-in at 1457,
LRA36 is back on after absence last Sat and Wed. S5-S7 via Pardinho,
Brasil, SDR but quite good with low noise level. Historical talk about
Antarctic bases; 1500 ID and music; 1511 ``Nacional Antártida
Argentina, en todo el país, la radio pública`` canned ID, repeated at
1515 and 1519 amid musix. 1523 contact info starting with whatsapp,
telephone, algo, facebook, e-mail. 1526 historical info, current
weather including máximo of -4. 1527 acknowledges listener Manuel
Méndez in España (who frequently reports it direct but with very poor
strength). 1528 despedida with Antarctica song; mentions Base
Marambio. I would really like to see the full lyrix of this song and
its name. Does anybody have them? But not off the air yet. 1532.5 on
to string of other songs; no further announcements, but 1555 Antártida
themesong again and off 1556* (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98-RCUSB, Wed June 16 at 1450 UT tune-in via
Pardinho, Brasil KiwiSDR, LRA36 in quite well, with song at S7.
Side-tuning to 15475.00-USB, we can confirm there is a carrier,
reduced, but in SAM mode not enough to register an exact frequency
offset. Usual canned ID which says ``Nacional, Antártida Argentina, en
todo el país, la radio pública``, song; 1456 contact info for QSL,
then a long announcement about something? 1503 `NAA` ID, this week in
world history, for dates June 14, 15, 17, 18. 1506 music. 1512 NAA ID,
music; two quick QRMs of rapid clix overriding. 1522 quick weather
info including today`s high of 2 grados (not bad for midwinter in
Anta, above freezing!); contact info including whatsapp number, phone.
1524 reminds us of Saturday repeat, now fading down into noise level;
1525 Antártida song until 1526*.

Earlier I asked if anyone had the lyrix to it. Manuel Méndez, Spain
replied with as much of it as he could copy. Some parts are missing as
with [...], notably the opening stanza. No doubt there will be many
more chances for native speakers to hear it, or examine old
recordings.

``Hi Glenn, this is what I could understand from the Base Esperanza
song:

And here is a Google translation I, gh, have slightly improved:

"... But the love of the country is stronger in Base Esperanza,
that is why this tribute, so that it fills with glory,
all the hearts that they carry in their memory.
Tears and goodbye handkerchiefs in the north dock left by
the Irízar *, that day it left.

Be vigilant and on guard, the Belgrano 2 base,
and the Primavera base ....

I also want to name, because the sea took them, the bases
Belgrano and Belgrano 3, and the science that their work gave us,
love for our people, respect for the flag,
by the Antarctic Life Command, at the end of the earth.

With the force of the winds, it has already left Palomar,
Heading to Marambio Base, Hercules, south of ....

Tears and goodbye handkerchiefs in the north dock left by
the Irízar *, that day it left."

* The ARA Almirante Irízar (Q-5) (RHAI) is an icebreaker belonging to
the Argentine Navy.`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6100, June 11 at 0550, this RHC English channel is off. 6060
is S9+ mostly hum; 6000 & 6165 both S9+20/30 with sufficient
modulation; 5040 axually in English too, S9+10/20 but fighting higher
storm noise level, none close to OK per Blitzortung. Something`s
always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11840, June 12 at 0228, S9+10 of almost OC, suptorted trace
of mod I suspect be RHC, then match it to 11670 Spanish as the 11840
level improves slightly, mentioning Filatelia show, now or promo? So
the 11850 transmitter has moved back to 11840 again; and now the
plus/minus 10 kHz parasites are JBA carriers on 11830 & 11850 instead
of 11840 & 11860. Is it now centred on 11840 for entire tarde span?
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6165 // 6000, June 12 at 0243, the two RHC English
frequencies are in French! I think; obviously a movie drama or TV
soundtrack. Only occasional mumbled dialog, hard to understand, mostly
fumbling and other sounds/effects, as the invisible video is mostly
carrying the story.

But what is this doing here?!? Same kind of thing caught once before,
on a 9 MHz band RHC frequency. Guess maybe they`ve plugged into wrong
satellite downlink, tho I`d think terrestrial STLs would be sufficient
near Habana. These are of course not // RHC real Spanish on 11670, nor
// 5040. There are long stretches with no dialogue; ``back-up beeps``
a couple times, traffic horns. 0258 bit of French dialogue, more SFX,
thru 0300 with no break; 0316 recheck still French dialogue.

6165 & 6000 not rechecked until 0543, when they are still far astray
from RHC English which is on 6060 // 6100. Now it`s drama in British
English, 0545 off-key singing, SFX, seems like soundtrack of horror
film. 6165 cuts off at 0553* while 6000 continues 0600+, but at 0605
check, 6000 is also gone.

All this certainly implies that the 6000 & 6165 pair are from one same
transmitter site, while 6060 & 6100 are from another, accounting for
totally different program feed inputs. BUT, Aoki & EiBi both show 6000
Quivicán, 6165 Bauta; 6060 & 6100 also both Bauta. So we may suspect
6165 now is also really Quivicán.

Something`s always wrong at RHC! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6100 // << 6000 much stronger, June 12 at 1256 but both VP

** CUBA. 11840, June 12 at 2206, once again like yesterday, RHC is
here ex-11850, ex-11840, ex-11850, etc., and it`s suptorted.
Something`s always wrong at RHC. BTW, 11840 was also Station YHWH`s

** CUBA. 6100, June 13 at 0614, S9+10/20 of dead air in English; 6165
OK in English; 6060 English with humbuzz; 6000 off; 5040 in extra
Spanish, S9+20/30. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CUBA. 11530, June 13 at 1701, no Cuban numbers signal when normally
scheduled. Nor 11635 at 1820 check. Rick Barton, AZ has been logging
these daily but all gone since June 11. 11435 at 1600 not heard June
13. Is the whole operation kaput? Propagation is degraded but still
RHC audible on 11760 & 15140 at 1720 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11850, June 14 at 0215, RHC back here ex-11840, ex-11850,
ex-11840, etc., but S9+10/20 of dead air; flanked by the JBA parasitic
spur carriers on 11840 & 11860. 0446 recheck still on with suptorted
modulation and the spurs. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6060, June 14 at 0216, RHC humbuzz over music, presumably
Spanish service at this hour. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

is S9+10/20 and merely undermodulated. 6060, 6000 and 5040 are all
off. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 13635 & 13765 approx., June 15 at 1417, F# FMish spurblobs,

``Hi Glenn, These broadcasts to Africa have now been ended by requests
of the sponsoring organisation.

However, we have a new broadcast on 15170 each Tuesday from 1500-1530
beamed to Kashmir. Any reception report will be welcome, and we will
pass it on to the broadcaster for answer according to our privacy
policy (GDPR applies to EU citizens) at
https://nexus.org/privacy-policy/
We will also issue our own QSL card, but we have a huge backlog, so
anyone please bear with us. Bests. Alfredo``

Tuesday only at 1500-1530 on 15170 is the HFCC registered one with 300
kW at 79 degrees from ``Milano``, while the Ugandan ones were
allegedly at 149 degrees (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KASHMIR [non]. At 1513 UT June 15 posted to the WOR iog:
``[WOR] 15170 IRRS Kashmiri --- 15170, from 1459 June 15, new IRRS
clandestine for Kashmir is huge signal into UTwente, low bass talker
with noise, music background, occasional English terms mixed into
Kashmiri? Now`s the time to hear it until 1530; Tuesdays only? Or
precursor of regular broadcast. Glenn Hauser`` A reply:

``Recording using the U. Twente SDR receiver. I was in a Teams meeting
but I could hear in the background what I think was the standard
Muslim greeting at the start ("As-salamu alaikum"). If I can find the
time, I'll review the recording to see what else might be gleaned. --
Richard Langley`` --- then my full report:

15170, Tue June 15 at *1457.5, carrier on, S9+10 into UTwente SDR.
1459 fragment of song, quick IRRS sign-on ID; 1500 drumming and talk
in presumed Kashmiri, very deep bass voice, starting with Salaam
aleikum. Now up to S9+25. Occasional English words/terms/names as I
listen to the whole thing, such as: Hindustani, Kashmiri, Islamic
majority, Islamabad; 1506 law & order. There is constant music
background and mike noise, in the wind? Or being manhandled. 1510
Kashmiri Civitas -- as Kai Ludwig had suggested; with strumming. 1514
brief switch to a different voice with throat-clearings over and over,
and different background music. Soon back to deep voice. 1524 switches
to halting English but very hard to understand: social platforms,
decide future, want to be independent, decide as a nation, should be
part of Pakistan or independent state, people of Kashmir will decide,
autonomy, house of parliament, shopkeepers donating, Islam ready for
anything. 1526 back to Kashmiri; chopped off air at 1529*.

Tnx to Alfredo Cotroneo of IRRS for advance info June 14 about this
broadcast as in my previous report; it had been registered with HFCC
as starting last week on Tuesdays only, 79 degree azimuth from
somewhere. Kai Ludwig had replied:

``Remember "Radio Free Kashmir", which appeared in May 2020 and was
supposed to have a weekly broadcast on Sundays, 0330-0430 on 7355.
This was a shortlived venture, in fact I'm not sure if it really made
it on air at all. But it was reported as IRRS-brokered, too, and so
the question at hand is obvious. These broadcasts in 2020 came (or
were supposed to come) from https://kashmircivitas.com
Kai`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KASHMIR [non]. 15170, Wed June 16 at 1503 check via UTwente, no
signal today from new clandestine as reported yesterday. Perhaps it
will be on Tuesdays only. As for the language, Arthur Pozner said:

``This was confirmed today in several Asian countries, the language
used is Urdu. Target area is Kashmir. Another clandestine broadcast;
and the "Uganda" program was cancelled several days ago!`` (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KOREA SOUTH. 15575, June 10 at 1324, KBS World Radio so-called NAm
service in English is nearing its solsticial peak, a hefty S4-S7 into
deep North America, about COVID-19, vax stats in ROK; 1351 in a
travelogue about hiking around Jeju Island at sunrise; now it`s S7-S9;
1400 into Korean hour. Most of the year this emission is a JBA carrier
or less, because it`s far too high a band for a mostly-dark
high-latutude path, but which is now getting max insolation (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2090)

wait—that’s MY gig!) I’m recording overnight on 90.1 and running RDS
Spy as well, hoping to log this one. Really appreciate the heads up.
Fingers crossed. Everyone bear in my mind that meteor scatter is often
best in the early morning hours up till about 10 AM. So don’t stop
rolling at sunrise. 73, Les Rayburn, N1LF, Maylene, AL 35114``

``Who`s Neal? This came from me, Glenn. KUCO tells me this ran until
morning shift at 1000 UT. ``The tone controller has died``, i.e. low
audio frequency cues from WCPE to insert local IDs. Will want to know
if Les or anyone got it by MS. Glenn Hauser, OK``

And here`s my correspondence later with KUCO, Brad Ferguson, mgr.:

``Brad, Sorry to report that your automatic legal ID was looping every
34 seconds from before when I tuned in at 12:40 this morning, past
1:20 when I turned off. Had I awakened later I was set to check it
again, but after 6:00 it was back to normal. I fear it ran like that
most of the night. Obviously there is no one in downtown OKC
overnight, but I would hope some of you had remote control access to
take care of problems like that. Or a fail-safe to replace with local
music, or something. Regards, Glenn Hauser, Enid``

``Yes, I got us back when I came in a little after 5:00. Chris thinks
the tone controller has died so we will run tonight without our IDs
and he will come with his tester tomorrow. BF`` (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 90.1, June 16 at 0559 UT, KUCO-FM Edmond/OKC amid
restored music relayed from The Classical Station, WCPE, foregoes its
own ID and lets the WCPE + satellites station IDs come thru after
low-frequency cue tone clearly audible on my radio speaker into my
ears; as KUCO`s device is out for repair. As in previous report,
yesterday, KUCO was looping nothing but its own IDs all night. Yet to
learn of any MS DX of it following my tip (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 94.3, June 12 at 2055 UT, still June 13 at 0122, KLGB-LP
Enid is dead air in $tereo but with static KLGB____ ID on RDS. I
suppose it will be dead the entire weekend like it was May 29-30. If
only they would also turn off carrier since tho LP it`s so close that
DXing any adjacent 94.1 & 94.5 is tough, no chance on 94.3 itself
(Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, June 10 after 2200, REE to NAm is holding up well;
Thursday is a day skipping English, but what`s on in Spanish? `Amigos
de la Onda Corta`, with the familiar voice of Antonio Buitrago, who
got a promotion to run the station. I missed the first few minutes,
but this edition is an interview about ``derecho de acceso`` at RTVE
itself. It seems this is an issue about various groups getting airtime
at the domestic public broadcaster; and there is now a bureaucratic
procedure for making their case via a form on the website.

With `shortwave` in its name, this has been classified as a `DX`
program, and the outro does mention DX among other topix, but as much
as I have been familiar with it, axual DXing and SW have seldom been
covered, rather media in the broadest sense. There is a huge archive
of podcasts like all their other programs, 371 of these here with
titles for each, not about SW or DX in the first two pages inspected:
https://www.rtve.es/alacarta/audios/amigos-de-la-onda-corta/
Most of them are a little too long to fit into 30-minute slots.

The page header shows airtimes, but altho in UT are obviously keyed
for winter time, now one UT hour earlier than: ``Amigos de la onda
corta --- Jueves a las 17.00 y 23.00 horas, viernes a las 02.00 horas
y sábados a las 13.00 horas UTC``

I do notice that none of them including this one are to be found in
the WWDXC A21 schedule of SWL/Media Programs in English, German,
Spanish,

** UGANDA [non]. 15170, Thu June 10 after 1500, NO signal from the
strange unID target broadcast seemingly via Romania; it was scheduled
in HFCC to skip Wednesday, which it did, but to resume Thursday.
What`s next on Friday+? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2090)

** UGANDA [non]. 15170, Tune-in at 1454 Friday June 11 via UTwente,
huge S9 jamming? of very rapid pulsing covering 15161-15184; by 1502
no sign of the Uganda service. It would be nice for someone to try to
DF the jamming, TDOA or otherwise. And note when it go off, after
1530?

Both Ron Howard in CA and Walt Salmaniw in BC say they are not hearing
anything on 15170, neither Uganda service nor jamming. Richard
Langley, NB, agrees with my timing on recording of when the jamming
stopped, so it`s obviously intentional interference, despite nothing
to block today. Has IRRS moved somewhere else, or concluded tests; and
then what?

``According to my recording using the U. Twente SDR receiver today (11
June), the jamming/interference stopped at about 1536:30 UT (based on
recording start time in file name and file bit rate).
-- Richard Langley`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** UGANDA [non]. 15170, Sat June 12 at 1455, checking again for the
``non-clandestine`` political target broadcast, but still absent,
while the ``jamming`` is already running again, as heard via
UTwente.

Now I am not so sure it`s jamming or against Ugandan ex-show. For one
thing, it`s doubtful opponents in Uganda could come up with such
blockage on short notice. From the sound of it, could well be OTH
radar invading SWBC band. Now it is not centered on 15170, but peaking
closer to 15160 and audible all the way from 15140 to 15170. Victim
now is 15150, R. Tamazuj via Madagascar. Noise still running past
1539, 1607, but off by next check 1658.

Has IRRS moved the Ugandans somewhere else? I`m too occupied with
LRA36 et al. to bandscan for it, but HFCC still shows only 7290, 9510,
15170 and 15515 for ``Milano``; 15515 also at 1500-1530 Saturdays only
which we should have checked, in Oromo instead of ``English`` on
15170:
http://hfcc.org/data/schedbyfmo.php?seas=A21&fmor=ANT
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** UGANDA [non]. 15170, June 13 at 1508, no IRRS signal, no jamming or
OTH radar in the area either, checking at UTwente. Ivo Ivanov notes
that 15170 has been deleted from the NEXUS-IBA schedule; so, that`s
that.

The Next Big Thing, which I had not heard yet, is on 9890, 19-24 UT
except Sundays 21-22 only, 250 kW, 170 degrees from Woofferton, about
Yoruba separatism in Nigeria. But Alan Roe was already hearing it this
Sunday June 13 at 1925. Now so I have I, African music and talk
mentioning Yoruba, at 1947; via UTwente (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** UGANDA [non]. 15170, the 1500-1530 target broadcast continues to be
unheard; but see KASHMIR [non]

** U S A. As I am not getting any Es FM DX, despite 88+ MUF spixe here
and there in the wrong spot, I drop to 28+ MHz for some 10-meter
hambeacons, all relogs as in the WJ5O roster:

28204-CW, June 11 at 2005, W0WF/B VVV DE --- still/again at 2200 on
the other rx.
``28.204 WØWF * SAINT CHARLES, MISSOURI # 20W, VERTICAL (*) Daylight

Around 2010 UT June 11 quite a few JBA beacons in the 28.2+ MHz area.

28284.8-CW, June 11 at 2013, VVV N9TNY/B EN51 PSE RST --- that would
be about 579, stronger than the others JBA. Still/again at 2230 on the
other rx.

28224.5-CW, June 11 at 2020, K5GJR/B
``28.2245 K5GJR C CORPUS CHRISTI, TX # 5W, VERTICAL``

The R75 tunes up to 60 MHz but I don`t have a VHF antenna for it, just
the same longwire for HF, MF and LF. I have a listen anyway at 2036
June 11, and hear a very chirpy CW signal on 50244 --- or is it just a
birdie? I have lots of those on HF & VHF (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Sporadic E MUF mostly below 88 MHz on June 15 but some spots
higher; several bandchex here don`t get anything but Okies on openish
92.1, 92.9, etc. So I decide to settle for 10m ham beacons, most of
which have been heard before, unlike hundreds of other CW in the WJ5O
roster. I may not have copied full spiels beyond IDs.

June 12 from 1800:40 on IRRS 7290 via Bulgaria, via UTwente SDR, VG
S9+15/25, and also trace on X 2 = 14580. Strange that both have
same-pitch warble on their USB, evitable by LSB tuning. Does that mean
it`s really also coming out of the 7290 transmitter rather than
external QRM?

Also via Italia-AM, 918 kHz, Villa Estense, via nearby Noale SDR,
running about 7 seconds ahead of 7290/UTw. Earlier: At 1754, 7290 had
open carrier over Chinese showing 7289.999; *1757 cut on much bigger

county is promoting Bigfoot-hunts as a tourist attraxion.) After ARNL
I am expecting `TOUTA` but instead hard-sell ads, 0025 canned WTWW ID
disrespectfully with Our National Anthem clip as produxion music.
Unlike 5085, I can`t detect any JBA spurs about plus/minus 12.9 kHz,
which is fortunate since they would het 9925 KBC and 9955 WRMI! So
maybe this is the otherwise idle #3 transmitter? Nor during music does
it sound distorted as 5085. 0027 classic rock, 0030 Atlas weather,
still no TOUTA, so I check pirate band.

0042 recheck, now `Theater Organ Under the Arch` has just started
late. Original S9+10/20 signal now going into some deep fades which
would not be happening on 5 MHz band. I`ve switched to the $tereo
non-fading webcast. At 0058 plays `Knightsbridge March` from London
Suite by Eric Coates, probably unaware it was the theme of HCJB`s `DX
Partyline`; but quite a different arrangement. Here is a traditional
orchestral performance, perhaps the very one HCJB used:

TOUTA is usually a ~31-minute program, but chopped off at 0102 after
only 20+ minutes! No compensation for the late start; tnx a lot, Ted.
Cut to bible verse, ID, and then the all-important rock DJ with
`International Happy Hour` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Sporadic E FM DX mostly eludes me; instead fringe KS/OK
signals with deep Es-like fading due to turbulent high-temperature
atmosphere. June 11 at 1626 UT on caradio, semi-open 92.3 says ``92.3
The Brand``. WTFDA FM DB gets no hits! but it`s surely only Wichita
KS, and I have heard it just in time:

``ESPN Wichita 92.3 The Fan To Launch June 14
Lance Venta by Lance Venta June 4, 2021

ESPN Wichita 92.3 The Fan KKGQ Chad Boeger’s Pinnacle Media will
launch Sports “ESPN Wichita 92.3 The Fan” KKGQ Newton/Wichita KS on
Monday, June 14.

Boeger, who heads Union Broadcasting and its Sports stations in Kansas
City and Louisville, acquired KKGQ from Rocking M Media for $623,000
in April. The deal helped settle the legal battle between Rocking M
and Envision Broadcast Network dating to the 2017 merger of
then-Envision owned KKGQ into Rocking M’s Wichita closer. Rocking M
agreed to sell its entire cluster in 2019 to Allied Media Partners,
however liens placed on the stations by Envision were unable to be
cleared and Envision locked Rocking M Media out of their studios
located at Envision’s headquarters leading to the sale collapsing. The
former Red Dirt Country “Kansas Country 92.3” has been operating as
Country “92.3 The Brand” when on the air since then.

The new format will create a format competitor to Audacy’s 1240
KFH/97.5 K248CY. Shane Dennis, who had been co-hosting the 9-11am show
on KFH, has jumped to KKGQ to host from 12-2pm. The KKGQ lineup will
also feature simulcasts of two programs originating at Union’s 810 WHB
Kansas City. “The Border Patrol” with Steven St John, Nate Bukaty and
Jake Gutierrez, which airs from 7-10am in Kansas City will see its
final two hours air in Wichita. KKGQ will also carry the final half of
“The Program with Brad Porter” from 4-6pm.

ESPN Radio programming including Keyshawn, JWill and Zubin from 5-8am,
“Greeny” with Mike Greenberg from 10am-12pm, and Max Kellerman from
2-4pm will air in all other dayparts.``

Here`s a sesqui-year-old story about how messed up it was then:

radio station is back on, but what about the others?

The on-again, off-again KKGQ, 92.3-FM is on again, but Monte Miller
apparently does not want to discuss it. “We put it back on the air is
all,” said the owner of Salina-based Rocking M Media...`` Read more

``[WOR] Broadcast aux on 25-26 MHz --- Now at sporadic E peak, keep an
ear out for broadcast auxiliaries in the 25-26 MHz band. Very little
activity lately and most of these now in EiBi may well be off for a
few years. Typically they are turned on only when needed, such as
``talkback`` during a remote event, so hosts may get non-delayed
program audio.

Now around 2000 UT June 15, when WWV is also in on 25000, I have an
open carrier on 25950, which once was used in Denver. Usually FM mode
but without mod it may seem like AM. EiBi:
