** ALGERIA [non]. 13820, Friday July 31, via UTwente I record the
18-19 UT hour of RTA via FRANCE, that clattering self-jamming
transmitter, to detect just when and what will be aired in English.
Starts at 1829, ``Hello, Muslims``, OM lecture about a holiday
celebrated at the end of Hajj, so I suspect Moslems already know all
about it. Every time a Big Shot is mentioned, such as Ibrahim and
Prophet Ismail, must postscript ``Peace be upon him``, or even ``Peace
and Blessings be upon him``. Is this a requirement on merely a
courtesy? May mere mortals, even non-dead ones, also be saluted thus?
I`ve seen it condensed to ``PBUH``. 1836 into Spanish YL, first about
COVID 19, then about same subject Hajj Fiesta, this version with music
relief. 1849 into French, later Arabic; 1858 brief Qur`an before
cutoff 1859* (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98-CUSB, LRA36 eQSL direct received July 29.
Filled in only date, country and name Guillermo Glenn Hauser but lots
of other station info on card including two seals and what looks like
a commemorative postal cancellation, or maybe a rubber stamp, via
http://www.worldofradio.com/QSL.html
where it`s #97:
http://www.w4uvh.net/GUILLERMO.jpg
Frequency is first shown as ``15.476 khz AM - OC`` but below:
``Emisiones de Prueba !USB¡``, while AFAIK it has always been USB with
reduced AM carrier (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 326-MCW kHz, August 4 at 0644 UT, ND beacon dash and YQK,
which is 200 watts from Kenora, Ontario (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) See
also U S A

** CHINA. CNR1 jammer survey, July 30 at 1348: 14850 JBA; 13835 S4-S8;
13130 S7-S9 // 13835; 13020 S5; 12880 S5; 12820 S4; 12795 JBA; 12550
S7; 11170; 11150; 11100 just in time before 1400*. 10920 open carrier
still a bit past 1400 before off too.

11170 & 11120, July 30 at 1421, these CNR1 jammers are still on JBA.

11785, July 30 at 1418, open carrier --- either CNR1 jammer against
VOA Chinese via Philippines not turned off at 1400; or CRI Chinese via
Kashgar, East Turkistan scheduled this hour but failing to modulate.

Also at 1350, steady carrier on 14745.2 as heard before but think it`s
unrelated unID (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. CNR1 jammer survey, July 31 at 1340: JBA 12880 is the only
one in this WOOB area: resuming at 1359, all I have time to find
before 1400* are 11440 with flutter, 11150 and 11120 (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** CHINA. CNR1 jammer survey, August 1 at 1316-1325: none higher than:
12820 VP; 12795 S9-S5 after some dead air; 12210 & 12190 vs CODAR;
11440, 11170, 11150, 11120, 11100, 10920, 10870, 10820 S7-S9, 9215,
9200; at 1333, 6970 VP but same as // 12795 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. CNR1 jammer survey, August 2 at 1356, mostly JBA: 13160,
12880, 11120, 11070, 10960, 9230, 9215 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. CNR1 jammer survey, Aug 3 at 1408: no WOOBs in the 13s, 12s,
but JBA carriers on 11100, 10920. No doubt would have been many more
before 1400* (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. CNR1 jammer survey, August 5 at 1421, JBA or JBA carriers:
13130, 12820, 12550, 12500, 11150, 11120 S1-S5, 11070, 10870 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11627 & 11713, July 30 at 0034, major spurblobs at S9 out of
RHC 11670, plus & minus about 43 kHz; better readable in AM than FM
mode; also another +43 around 11756, and JBA minus 43 around 11584
JBA. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15230, July 30 at 0040, RHC still on here at S9 but Just
Barely Modulated. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CUBA. 11742-11777, July 30 at 1420, splatter range out of RHC
11760. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 5025, July 31 at 0558, R. Rebelde at S9+10/20 but suptorted;
wiggle that patchcord. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba. 5040 RHC
English is already off (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15230, July 31 at 1337, RHC is S4-S6 of undermodulation,
suptortion; 15140 by comparison is much better. Something`s always
wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15410 approx., August 1 at 2151, distorted spurblob with
music and telltale F# tone, so I know immediately it has to be coming
from the nearest RHC, i.e. 15370: Yes, undermodulated there at S7,
soon with poetry or lyrix recitation; where else at ~40-kHz intervals?
S5 15333 approx. at minus 37, while they are really diffuse, now
15407-15411 audible; JBA around 15447 but not around 15289. Event from
an echoey hall, mentions Moncada, perpetual revolutionary obsession,
living in the past. Surely same spurry transmitter recently on 11670
later, and less recently on 13700 earlier. Something`s always wrong at
RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11800, Aug 1 at 2206, RHC is S7-S8 and suptorted while its
parasitic spurs on 11790 & 11810 are mere JBA carriers (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11760, Sunday August 2 at 1501, via Alexandria SDR, weekly
RHC Esperanto opening still alleges wrong info for this very
broadcast: Sunday 1600 on 11760 (only, ignoring 15140); after Sunday
0800 instead of 0700, on 6100, which may or may not be the frequency
extended after English; and 2230 on 15730 which at least is correct.
Another mispronounced word is politiko, as if it were Spanish,
``político``. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15370, August 2 at 1933, RHC is S9+10 but dead air except for
some F# tone but no spurs around 40 kHz intervals away; 1938 recheck,
now JBM in unknown language and spurblobs detected circa 15412, 15329
and at least the F# audible circa 15290 but not 15450. Somethings`
always wrong at RHC.

15140, meanwhile,Aug 2 at 1935 is S9 but extremely suptorted, JBM, so
bad I can`t be sure it`s really in English as scheduled or something
else. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 13740, Aug 3 at 2043, S9+10 of dead air from RHC; warmup?
well before scheduled *2100; no spurs.

15370, Aug 3 at 2046, S9 of suptorted Arabic, which even when
well-modulated sounds like choking. No spurblobs noted now.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 13650, Aug 5 at 2305 JBM music at S9-S5, the CRI
``Portuguese`` relay filled by music-only; much weaker than RHC itself
on 13740. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CUBA. 7380, Aug 5 at 2306, no signal from RHC English to Africa,
but 5040 English to Carib is audible VP in noise. Something`s always
wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11670, Aug 5 at 2308, RHC Spanish with very distorted music
at S9+20; at least no spurs this time. Something`s always wrong at RHC
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** DJIBOUTI [non]. 17870, August 2 at 1441 I`m looking for the weekly
Sunday-only broadcast of La Voix de Djibouti, via FRANCE. Little or no
signal at UTwente, too close to Issoudun; nor TWR South Africa, nor
Qatar; TWR Bengaluru blox me as having exceeded usage limit which I
certainly have not; but VG signal via the ham club KiwiSDR in Kuwait:
stilted French talk with two full-name IDs in passing, not just
``LVD``, about ending the regime, the time has come to liberate, etc.
1443 morphs into another language, maybe same voice, Afar? 1449 brings
up African choral music with drumming for rest of hour. 1457 fading
with announcements, 1458 cut to dead air until 1459* (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** GERMANY. 9670, August 1 at 1658-1702, no signals from Channel 292
new frequency with 10 kW ND from Rohrbach, which per Ivo`s sked is
supposed to be airing `Encore` classical music at 17-18. I`m checking
both UTwente and another SDR further in Europe, Lisboa. 9670 has been
reported earlier today and July 31 testing sporadically. At 18-19 it
is to be occupied by CRI via Kashgar. But but by 1712 Encore is poorly
audible at both, better at Lisboa. No point in even trying for this
direct to deep North America; no signal at Maine SDR. Sorry, I`m back
to `Carmen` non-Met LA Opera on L&C KUCO-FM stereo webcast (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** GERMANY [non]. 9675: after barely hearing `Encore` via Channel 292
on new 9670 via UTwente after 1700, I check again Aug 1 at 1855 to
find how bad the CCI be from EAST TURKISTAN, CRI in Persian already
there at 1800-1900 --- which taking Ivo`s advice, caused Uncle Bill to
reschedule his new Friday bihour on 9670 from August 7 to 16-18
instead of 18-20 UT. Yes, would certainly have a problem before 1900
on 9670, but a far greater problem is huge signal at UTwente on 9675,
Sa`udi Arabia in stilted Turkish, furthermore distorted
over-modulation breaking up! Riad at 1800-2100 per EiBi, 1755-2057 per
Aoki but missing from HFCC A-20! HFCC does show a further mess on
9675, 1900-2100 Egypt in Russian which I think is imaginary but not
checked after 1900; and from 2020 an hour from Iran in Spanish which
would collide with Sa`udi until it`s finished at 2057 or 2100. That`s
also likely to ACI 292 if anyprogram try to use it those hours. BTW
only two of the six airings of `Encore` classical music on WRMI are
any good here to the NW, and I do catch it UT Sunday Aug 2 at
0100-0200 on 5850 via OKC SDR; next is UT Monday 0200-0300 on 9455.
Always enjoyable and tnx to Brice Avery for producing it! (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** INTERNATIONAL WATERS [non]. 14325-USB, Aug 1 at 1310, Hurricane
Watch Net, unID station citing position of Huracán Isaías (confounding
English-only speakers) as 24.3N, 77.5W = 30 km E of Andros, moving at
12 mph. Another QSO on 14343-USB apparently from coastal Floridians
concerned about flooding (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** IRELAND. 13264-USB, Aug 2 at 1344, weak VOLMET by YL voice; can`t
copy ID or locations but cites temp in C, ceiling in feet, visibility
in km; by 1355 JBA. EiBi shows it`s Shannon (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** IRELAND [non]. ITALY [non]. 7290, Mon Aug 3 at 1855 retune UTwente
for IRRS presumed Bulgaria as `The Shortwave Report` is concluding
with mandatory segment from Dan`s favorite station RHC, as he mislists
its frequencies ``from 6 pm [PDT] to midnight`` to include 6060 and
6165, both of which are long gone. The last item always gets cut off,
since IRRS inserts `Feature Story News` of about 5 minutes at 1830;
this week something from NHK Japan, chopped just before 1859 for IRRS
sign-off, which continues to give address as that 5-digit P O Box in
Milano, totally contradicting info that it is no longer in use! Such
as this note with eQSL received by Konstantin Bersankov, St. Pete in
the latest Rus-DX:

``Please also notice that we have discontinued our PO BOX or any
regular mail address for listeners' correspondence, and we are unable
to reply to QSL request by regular mail.

You may also find useful information on the following websites:
https://www.nexus.org
https://milanoventures.com
http://egradio.org
Let me know if we can further assist you. Hope this helps. Best
regards. Ron``

http://qsl-review.blogspot.com/2020/01/irrs-shortwave-nexus-iba.html

where it is assumed a QSL for 7290 at 1800-1900 June 20 [Saturday] was
for Romania; Altho nothing from IRRS specifies this as Romania --- now
believed to be Bulgaria. Furthermore, KB quotes this from their
website explaining why transmitter sites are kept secret, the only
non-Soviet broadcaster to do so:

``Since IRRS & NEXUS-IBA started relaying programs on shortwave in
1989, several organizations and individuals appeared on the market as
"competitors", offering similar services, sometimes in a fraudulent
and very un-professional way. We came across people charging for fake
(not existing) transmissions, and producing fake listeners' letters,
as well as broadcasts that are cheap, but so poor in quality that
cannot not be heard on the intended target, and those who commission
them have no means to check them.

In order to protect our interests and those of our members against
such competitors, our policy had to be changed in recent years not to
disclose information about our transmitter sites and our agreements
with our service providers and governments. Since we aim to to provide
top quality broadcasting services at the lowest possible cost to our
members, our transmitting sites may change as several technical and
contractual conditions change.

There is a simple way to explain this: when you buy anything at your
local shop, did you tried asking where exactly do they buy items that
they sell to you? I am sure no shop-keeper, service provider or
reseller will provide you information of their own sources for the
same reason.

Sometimes multiple transmitters are involved in order to provide
better coverage and/or redundancy. Nevertheless these sites will
remain confidential and are not disclosed to the general public. There
has been lots of speculations during the years (right and wrong) when
different "experts" tried to locate every and each
of our transmitter sites, and then published misleading information on
the internet and on other publications.

Only the power, time, program type, language and especially the target
area is clearly published in our schedules. We believe that this is
the information that our listeners need to know in order to tune into
our members' broadcasts.

Our programs are all originating from our Network Control Centre (NCC)
in Milan, Italy, where we operate all of our broadcasting services.``

This rationale makes no sense to me; the response to competitors
putting out fake info is to be completely transparent with real info.
If it change from time to time, fine, just acknowledge it. And then
there`s IRRS as HQ in IRELAND per WRTH (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NIGERIA. 7255-, 9690-, 11770- and 15120, August 2 at 0602, NO
signal from VON on any possible frequency (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 7470, Aug 5 at 0231, anti-Christ pirate Station YHWH
is back after some absence, usual screed, S8-S9 except for some deep
fades. Tnx to tip from Eric Fetters-Walp on the WOR iog:

``[WOR] YHWH on 7470 as of 0220 UTC Aug. 5 --- Just checked 7470 kHz
and found Josiah back after several days -- if not longer -- of being
off the air. A noisy signal with lots of fading, but very audible
talking as of 0220 UTC here near Seattle, where we've still got full
daylight`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 515-MCW kHz, July 30 at 0559, NDB PN in Ponca City is
back on the air (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. RF20, July 30 at 1533 UT, regional tropo enhancement
showed a Bad signal only on this open channel earlier, so I stayed on
it and by now has visiblized with stable Dr Oz show on KQCW-HD Tulsa
market; no subchannels. This is the one most likely to decode with any
enhancement. OKC RF 27 KFOR is blocked by DX as is RF 17 3ABN
translator in Enid (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. Re my last report under unID MW: ``I was also checking page
59 of WRTH 2020, the glossy map of Europe, and notice there is a SW
site in red at San Fernando, on the SW coast of Spain just above
Gibraltar. When was there ever a SW site there, beyond Noblejas or
long-gone Arganda?? Maybe utility? I`ve always felt these maps should
be much more detailed if they would show at least major MW sites, but
they are only for SW``

Richard Langley explains that this refer to timesignal station EBC.
The diamond at the spot is in dark blue which the legend explains
refers to such SW outlets, as shown on page 669: 1 kW CW but on air
less than one hour weekdays only: 1000-1025 on 15006, 1030-1055 on
4998. Is it active? Can`t recall any recent reports of it and I`m
never listening at that hour (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

{Richard later researches that EBC has been closed down for years}

** SRI LANKA. 11905, August 5 at 0057, JBA music with flutter both up
and down and sidewise, S5-S6 at best until 0058*. Must be end of
Bengali semihour from SLBC as scheduled, despite current report from
Ivo that: ``Two of three transmitters at Trincomalle [sic] are out of
service. The transmissions of Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation /
SLBC and some transmissions of Adventist World Radio / AWR are
suspended, as follows:
0030-0100 on 11905 TRM 125 kW / 345 deg to SoAs Bengali SLBC
0200-0230 on 11905 TRM 125 kW / 345 deg to SoAs Hindi SLBC...``

The B19 sked in WRTH 2020 was different, continuous 0030-0230, the
first and last semihours in Hindi, 0100-0200 in Bengali, all on 11905
Trincomalee. No azimuths ever shown there, but if Ivo be correct,
Bengali segment is not aimed at Bengal, east or West! Anyway,
trans-polar to here.

Last logged here July 13, 2018 from *0030v. Before that when the sun
was a bit spottier, I tracked numerously previous *0115 openings with
variable off-timesignals (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SUDAN SOUTH [non]. MADAGASCAR. Ivo Ivanov reported: ``AGAIN NO
SIGNAL of MGB Eye Radio Special px on 7340 kHz August 3
0459-0557 on 7340 MDC 250 kW / 335 deg to EaAf Juba Arabic*-pls check
on August 4
1459-1557 on 15410 MDC 250 kW / 340 deg to EaAf Juba Arabic*-pls check
later today * including news in other languages:
English/Dinka/Nuer/Shilluk/Bari/Zande/Lutoho.
-- 73! Ivo Ivanov``

So I do check, 0500-0505 Tue August 4, no signal at UTwente on 7340,
just strong BBC Vatican on 7345. Aoki says Eye at 05-06 is on days 1
and 7 only. This had just been registered as an extra hour to deal
with COVID-19. Ivo replies, ``But no signal on both frequencies
Sat/Sun August 1/2 and Mon/Tue August 3/4`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. (7275), July 30 at 0315 despite my alarm, miss checking VOT
Letterbox on final UT Thu repeat, but via WOR Hitlist I find the
podcast at
http://www.radio360.eu/podcasts/en/tr/vot/20200729_1430.mp3
Ibrahim does the sign-on, claiming it`s the 1330-1430 broadcast on
15450 while it`s really an hour earlier all summer. More features
follow until `Letterbox` starts at :19 into.

Follows up to last week about his friend in Malaysia with cancer: he
died on July 23. Letters from: Otto Schwartz, Calabash?? NC USA whose
handwriting is as bad as a doctor`s but is a very handsome guy with
very big hands, and whose picture will be put on the wall forever;
next from Michael Goeren?, Upland? California USA who had QRM from
hams on 40m band; Brian D Webb, Upper Hutt, NZ; Japan who is getting
fat for lack of exercise; and about protecting borders against PKK
terrorist group which is where I came in on the 2200 broadcast:
``Turkish nation never killed any innocent people``. Says next
`Letterbox` will be in *two* weeks time, ending at :33, into `Did You
Know That` about healing mud baths, by YL announcer also with heavy
accent (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 13635.007, July 31 at 1330 Turkish talk, 1332 music at
S6-S9, slightly off frequency. Don`t usually hear VOT here. O, that`s
because as Ivo Ivanov reports, today it failed to switch to 9840 by
1300; ``something`s always wrong at Emirler transmitting station!``
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 9830, Aug 1 at 2200, no signal here from VOT English, but
at 2215 a JBA carrier; maybe came on late (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. Correxion: 9685 was certainly not splashing upon
9830; I must have been referring to Spain 9690 getting QRM when
checked at same time via UTwente, no such ACI here:

``TURKEY. 9830, Wed July 29 at 2230 tune-in via UTwente, VOT English
is on today and VG, even without hum, but splash from 9685 which is
the orphan CRI ``Portuguese`` service of fill-music-only, via
Kashgar...`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 9830, Wed Aug 5 at 2215 I am all set to hear another
`Letterbox` on VOT, but there is no signal, nothing but NSS RTTY. Last
week anyhow host said would be back in two weeks, but that has often
proven to be mistaken. Now will have to try to catch it at 0315 Aug 6
on 7275; or podcast; or Sat/UT Sun repeats at same times.
Today`s podcast is not yet available but should become at:
http://www.radio360.eu/mplayer/podcastplayer-e.php?datei=http://www.radio360.eu/podcasts/en/tr/vot/./20200805_1430.mp3&feed=voteng
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U A E. 11830.115, July 31 at 1418, JBA carrier way off-frequency, a
sure tipoff it`s from one of our favorite skewed sites --- in this
case, NHK World Radio Japan via Al-Dhabbiya scheduled this semiihour
only in English; and gone at recheck 1439.

BTW, altho Aoki ignores such variants, it has another intriguing entry
nearby: 11828, 1330-1358, V of Turkey in Kazakh. Does not appear to be
a typo, correctly placed between 11825s and 11830s. That`s supposed to
be 11825 per EiBi. In the past, this transmission would sometimes
start late, failing to change frequency from preceding English on
15450 or 12035 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 257-MCW kHz, August 4 at 0648 UT, ND beacon JYR, which is 25
watts from York, Nebraska, a new one for me. York is due north of
Enid, also on US 81, and east of Grand Island. I was near there for
the Total Solar Eclipse of August 21, 2017 --- those were the days ---
and brief ``night`` but I was not checking for NDBs (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR) See also CANADA

** U S A. Re: ``6993, July 28 at 0054, at least two JBA carriers
beating against each other. Time for another occasional log of
presumed propagation research stations in Florida...``

Martin Potter replies on the ODXA iog:

``Hi, Glenn, Your item about the unmodulated carriers from Florida
piqued my curiosity, and I have logged them during two evenings now on
4443 and 6993 kHz. QTH here is just south of Ottawa, Canada (grid
FN25), a little ways from Florida (about 2000 km).

29 July 2020, 0148-0201 UT on 4443.00, 4443.01, and 4443.02 kHz, QSA
1-2 but clearly visible on the SpectrumLab waterfall display.
29 July 2020, 0203-0222 UT on 6992.99, 6993.00, 6993.01, and 6993.02
kHz, QSA 1-2 but clearly visible on the spectrum display.

Next night I used my GPS-disciplined oscillator as 10 MHz reference
for the HP signal generator for frequency measurement, and got the
following:
30 July 2020, 0205-0245 UT on 6993.000 and 6993.010 kHz, QSA 1-2 but
clearly visible on the spectrum display.
30 July 2020, 0246-0303 UT on 4443.000, 4443.010, and 4443.020 kHz,
QSA 2 and clearly visible.

The frequencies were measured without difficulty and there was no
great Doppler shifting of the signals on this north-south path, so I
believe my accuracy is within one hertz. For whatever it is worth, if
there was any difference in signal strength in my observations, the
signal on the whole kilohertz was always the strongest one. Not sure
what that means in practice.

I have attached the spectrum displays from 29 July {visible also in
the WOR iog}. Please ignore the accuracy of the frequency scale in
these as it is determined by offset of the receiver tuning, and is
good only for showing frequency differences, rather than absolute
frequency.

As you might expect, none of these carriers is heard here during the
daytime, only after sunset. I hope you can make something of all this.
Thanks and take care! Very 73 (Martin Potter VE3OAT`` WORLD OF RADIO

``I am located on Camden Cove Island in Etowah county AL. See our
28.255 Mhz Beacon, up since 1987. KB4UPI 10 Meter Beacon 28.255
EM73ax

Our 10 meter beacon runs 5 watts into a 10 meter vertical antenna on
the top of my boathouse. The beacon was first placed on the air in
October of 1987 on 28.224, and the first report came from Don, WB4YRJ,
who is now a SK. The frequency was chosen because it was the only
place I could make the converted CB transmit at due to the crystals I
had on hand. Later I changed it to 28.267 for much the same reason. It
was later changed to 28.255 at the request of the HF beacon
coordinator Bill, WJ50. Contact Bill before you start any intended
beacon operation. See the WJ5O Beacon List.

The beacon has received reports from all over the world over the
years. The most distant report was in March of 1990 and came from SWL,
Brian Webb, ZL2262 in New Zealand. That is 4998 (MPW) miles per watt.
See his report below.

I QSL 100 per cent worldwide to ham operators and SWL's. No SASE is
required. Send your QSL and I'll send mine. Copy the short message if
you wish. All I need for a QSL is the frequency, time, date, and
signal report. Email reception reports are always welcome and
appreciated. To send me a simple report via email you may send it to
MickUpi*Gmail.com. The at sign is replaced to prevent email
harvesting.

The picture above is the present setup in the attic of my boathouse at
my QTH on Camden Cove Island in AL. I am located in Gadsden Alabama on
the banks of the Coosa River and Neely Henry lake. I have had several
transmitters over the years. The present one is a RS HTX-100. It runs
on low power at 5 watts. This radio should never be run at high power
(25 watts) in beacon operation. It will burn out and require service.
It should also have a fan. See the fan below.

Radio --- Close up view of the RS HTX-100 radio running 5 watts. These
radios are still readily available on eBay for around $80 to $100.
Look closely at the knob on the top right. Above it is printed, "pull
for low power". I placed a 3/16" thick rubber washer behind the knob.
Without the washer it is easy to accidently bump the knob and put the
radio on high power.

Keyer --- Close up of the MFJ-447 memory keyer. It has keyed the
transmitter for many years. The keying transistor was burned out
during a lightning strike a few years ago, but it is easily replaced.

Meter --- This is a cheap and simple SWR/Power meter I bought at a
hamfest for $3. I use it to look at the meter when take a look in the
attic of the boathouse and see if the radio is transmitting. All it
takes is a quick glance.

Fan --- Not a good picture, but this is an AC fan blowing on the fins
on the back of the radio. It is vitally important to to protect your
transmitter. AC fans seem to be far more reliable than a DC fan. This
one is setting on some foam rubber pads to dampen the vibration and
make it less noisy. Even running at 5 watts the HTX-100 will get too
hot without the fan.

This is a Motorola model TPN1154A 16 amp power supply that runs the
radio and the keyer. These commercial power supplies are usually
overlooked at hamfests because people don't know what they are, and
it's not surprising because the units have no ratings on them showing
what the voltage or maximum amperage is. Depending on the model they
can be rated at 5 to 25 amps. You can buy them at hamfests for 10 to
15 dollars. The digital meter on the top right was added. It bounces
from 13.7 to 13.8 as the transmitter turns on and off. Curiously
Motorola made them and set them up to operate at 14.9 volts. A small
resistor can easily be added to the regulator board to bring the
voltage down to 13.8 volts. Many thanks to Kevin Custer, W3KKG and
others for providing info on these power supplies. To see more info on
the power supplies Click Here

This peice of coax is which a squirrel chewed the coax shield away
where I once had the equipment outdoors at another QTH. If outside I
have learned it is best to leave the coax hanging freely instead of
attaching it to trees. I can only wonder why squirrels do this.``

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2045 monitoring: NOT confirmed
Friday July 31 at 2200 on WRMI 9955 - first I am checking SDRs and
find no signal at the three Caribbean-area TWRs, not in Brazil either,
but at Bogotá, I realize there is a considerable carrier there but no
modulation! The webcast won`t run either. Then I check here direct and
also find S4-S6 of dead air. 2208 I e-mail WRMI about this, and Jeff
says they will check it out. But it`s still OC/DA at 2234 when I
survey the other WRMIs on air at this hour, and they all seem nominal:
9455, 9395, 5850, 5800; 5950 is on JBA but can`t be certain it`s
modulating. By 2305, 9955 is still DA vs jamming. 0039 August 1 seems
off while J continues; by 0128, 9955 is back on with music.

WOR 2045 is confirmed UT Sat August 1 at 0130 on WRMI trimulcast: 7780
fair S9, 5010 better S9+10 but both vs noise level, while 5850 is VG
S9+30/40. I listen straight thru on 5850 to be sure it`s OK as this
edition required a lot of editing due to technical problems. OK.

WOR 2045 also confirmed UT Mon Aug 3 at 0330 on WRMI 9955; as usual on
this airing, R. Prague fill music runs right up to 0330 with no ID
break; that makes up for some double-IDs at other times. Here it`s
S8-S9 but fading vs pulse jamming. A few minutes earlier at 0324
check, 9955 was S9/+10 well above lite PJ.

BTW, WRMI escaped any hurricane outage, far enough inland from the
path to get no more than 20 mph gusts per NWS Okeechobee city info.

WOR 2045 also confirmed Monday August 3 at 1805 tune-in via UTwente,
well underway and no dropouts on IRRS 7290 via Bulgaria; just the

** U S A. (7490+), UT Sat August 1 at 0000 I start monitoring WBCQ
webcast of `Allan and Angela Weiner Worldwide` --- surprise! A very
frenetic jazzed-up version of ``William Tell Overture``. Allan thanks
Jason for that, sounds like the Siberian Orchestra? Initial topix:
``We all need to lighten up``; how beautiful Angela is, a wife he
loves so much; did you know that in the olden days of radio those on
the air would dress up even tho no one could see them: now we are
slobs. 0019 how AW listens to Rush and appreciates him; Angela says
for the elexion in November we have a choice between Donald Trump and
North Korea --- as the Democrats will turn US into a socialist
dictatorship; Allan would not go quite that far but says Biden is not
a real candidate, a joke. I can`t take any more of that, but check the
other frequencies via Alexandria remote: 5130 and 6160- are both on
but noisy. By 0053 I tune to 7490+ direct as he goes into a couple

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, August 1 at 0541:
from low end of band up to 900 at least, no 531 or 891 from Algeria,
but the only one on 9 kHz steps is 621, surely RNE 300 kW on Tenerife,
CANARY ISLANDS. It`s almost too late for anything from Europe, but LSR
there today was 0627 UT, while e.g. in Sevilla, upon the continent
it`s 0529 UT, if I have correctly converted the confusing listings at
gaisma.com -- where you will not find a Canary heading under Africa,
but under Europe: Spain: Santa Cruz de Tenerife, not under T.

I was also checking page 59 of WRTH 2020, the glossy map of Europe,
not including Canaries even as inset, and notice there is a SW site in
red at San Fernando, on the SW coast of Spain just above Gibraltar.
When was there ever a SW site there, beyond Noblejas or long-gone
Arganda?? Maybe utility? I`ve always felt these maps should be much
more detailed if they would show at least major MW sites, but they are
only for SW (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) continued at: SPAIN
