The program went out twice in regular BBC WS steams and may have been aired in regular BBC WS shortwave transmissions on at least one of these occasions. QSL FROM Konstantin Barsenkov, St. Petersburg, Russia, TO WORLD OF RADIO he heard on WRMI 7780: https://www.w4uvh.net/RecRep%20WOR%20Jun.18-2020.jpg Now #91 via http://www.worldofradio.com/QSL.html With this message: ``Dear Mr. Glenn Hauser, My name is Konstantin Barsenkov, I am 45 years old, I was born and live in St. Petersburg, Russia. More than 25 years ago, one of my favourite hobbies was DX-ing (shortwave monitoring). In the 90s there was no Internet, letters were long, and international correspondence was quite expensive for a student. About four years ago I decided to try it again. And now I'm passionate about this hobby again. I still use my old Soviet military analog tube receiver R-250M2 (it's probably older than me and it weighs 90 kg!) with a long wire outdoor antenna. Today I was pleasantly surprised to hear my name in your program World of Radio. Earlier my message was published in the Anatoly Klepov's bulletin Russ-DX Plus#858 and it was about Chinese jumming of Sound of Hope. Actually, I don't know if you send any QSL, but I'll be very appreciated for your confirmation of the current reception report (perhaps letter or any picture by email) and thanks in advance!`` Very nice, but please note WOR as a program does not offer QSLs, leaving that to stations; only WRMI has a WOR-design QSL for reports sent to them of receptions on WRMI only. I forwarded his report (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2039 monitoring: confirmed first WRMI broadcast, Friday June 19 at 2200 on 9955, S9-S8 and no jamming audible. I put up with it hoping for some program ID, but none heard as it stopped at 0257.5 for Spanish hymn fill music, 0259.5 WRMI ID, 0300 another (same?) untitled talk show now about the precarious (?) financial situation of Wells Fargo. There is nothing to account for this on the WRMI skedgrids. Transmission sked shows 9395 with System F before 0300, then System C = Overcomer. BTW, what I was hearing not // Overcomer or any other WRMI. The individual System program grids do not show any such thing: 9395 not on System C until 0400; System F only on 5850 before 0300. System G does show 9395 starting at 0300 with Oldies. Sigh; sadly, just another example of totally contradictory, incomplete, outofdate WRMI scheduling info. That reminds me, I forgot again to check out the new show by that guy in Perú wanting contact with N American SWLs, `Quorum Radio`, UT Tuesday 0200-0300 on 5850, but it plays again (or a different episode?) UT Wednesday 0200-0300 on 5850. One more conspiracy theory, so 10 minutes is plenty of that. Nothing about Q.R. yet on the WRMI Programming page. Strange, I had the impression it was a music request show; well, sort of, per this from WRMI via disgraced FB: ``WRMI Radio Miami International June 16 at 11:46 AM · [zone??] QUORUM RADIO offers interesting guests and eclectic music for its North American audience. Angela raises her voice in opposition to some of them to the point of distortion. Another crash? Now what`s wrong. No word about this yet from an Allan twit, last one dated June 23 when it was still operative. However I do have a weak carrier on 9333.0, not noticed before with or without 9330. Still off past 1500, and 9333 still on past 1503, S4-S6 open carrier. About an hour later, remotes do not hear either one. Next check 1842, still no 9330, while 9333 JBA carrier is fadive so unseems local. This corporate site adds many other stations, both Spanish and English, but no further linx, no website of its own: https://www.hpr.network/texas Various streaming services will not connect to KZIP, but one shows it as a Farm station (in English), probably long outdated; or updated? https://radiostationnet.com/am/texas/KZIP/ including an off-air clip of English ID (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. Here`s another oddity --- I also heard over the phone from George. ``"This is a test of the text to speech system" over and over. I can hear it solid around Nashville, TN. 1680 AM. When in a fixed location including my house, the signal does not vary. It`s on the same frequency as one of the TN department of transportation transmitters which is under the "This is a test ....." station. George McClintock 6-24-2020, 1613 UT`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. Just had a call from George McClintock, Nashville TN, that he is getting WNOE, Atlanta GA on 1690, oldies, as late as 1450 UT, rather late on a long day for skywave. I wonder if it`s sporadic E affecting MF. WNOE was 1060 in New Orleans, still a call there on FM. Not yet as such in FCC, or radio-locator.com --- 1690 was WMLB, I think gone for a while. 73, (Glenn Hauser, OK, June 23, WOR) Glenn: Don't you believe that it's WNOE. I assume he misheard the calls {But see below!} I tuned 1690 in when I saw your email. They were playing "Georgia," it was followed by a station ID of WMLB, Avondale Estates-Atlanta at 11:41 a.m. EDT. The station has been on the air intermittently for the past year. I've heard no live announcers or anything other than old interviews and music. I've seen them run a notice in the Atlanta newspaper about seeking to renew their license. I think these broadcasts are just intended to keep the station active for that purpose, so that it's not deemed dark. There's nothing different in what I'm hearing today than what I've heard for months. mc (Mike Cooper, Atlanta) Sounds like George is simply mistaking the callsign when he's hearing it. http://www.topazdesigns.com/ambc still shows the call as WMLB. {but see below!} Here's a post from "Harry S." in Buford, GA on radiodiscussions.com from approx. 6 weeks ago that may shed some light on what's going on: "Today (Thursday, May 7, 2020) WMLB 1690 AM switched from the continuous loop of testing announcements and the same music loop regular station announcements every other song (no mention of "testing) and a larger variety of music played. This was interspersed with old public service interviews conducted with Jeff Davis (former PD for 1160) with various local individuals that are leading groups in the area such as Georgia State Patrol recruiting and Veterans Affairs Jobs in the Atlanta area among other guests." Although I'm sure the DXers on this board near Atlanta would disagree, this is one expanded band station that I wouldn't mind having return (I still {need} WMLB for my logbooks up here). WVON is my only real consistent visitor on 1690 here at night, although KDMT will make the occasional visit to Omaha. 73, Rick Dau, on the road in Davenport, Iowa`` Glenn, They gave the WNOE ID Atlanta this morning. At 9:35pm tonight I heard the WMLB ID. At 9:44pm tonight I heard the WNOE Atlanta ID --- Weird. George McClintock 6-23-2020`` Yes, NOE does ``rhyme`` with MLB. Could 1690 be relaying feed from New Orleans with its IDs intermixed? (Glenn) They ID "WNOE Atlanta". (George 6-24-2020) Meanwhile, 1608-1630+ UT June 24, I have been listening to 1690 via KiwiSDR in Knoxville-Oak Ridge --- some good peaks, fadeouts. One Kiwi in Jasper GA is unavailable and uncovers MW anyway; a couple in Alabama don`t get it. Oldies, IDs between every 2 or 3 songs so far only as ``This is WMLB-AM, 1690 kHz, Avondale Estates -- Atlanta``. At 1617 ``stay safe`` which would seem to refer to something current in 2020y. Recognizable tunes between 1608 and 1644 included: Be My Love, Tequila, Her Tender Lips, Who`s Cryin` Now, Good Golly, Miss Molly; Crazy, That`ll Be the Day, Chantilly Lace. George says the ``WNOE`` IDs just say Atlanta, not with the city of license Avondale Estates. Also before 1600 they were in a talk show rather than music. And: ``In all fairness to people that heard the ID with the correct city of licensee, I did not actually hear a legal ID at the top of the hour or 45 minutes delayed by programming as required by the FCC. The IDs were several times during the hour with different call letters. This still seems strange. George McClintock 6-24-2020`` GH: continuing on 1690 via Knoxville: 1644 UT suddenly switches to ``Atlanta`s Business from News-Talk 1160``, interview. Her ``left leg completely rotted to the hip``, etc. Yuk. It appears that 1160 is currently ``The Quest, Atlanta`s Catholic Radio`` with EWTN. FB as WCFO Newstalk 1160 stopped after March 2018. So 1690 is playing old stuff from another station? While playing music the cuts were 2 minutes max; seems they were truncated. Will try to hear any ToH ID at least. The interview continued until 1707 UT with no break, concluding with plug for a related event on September (or December?) 9, and the woman with the leg problem was Amy Copeland; 1708 another canned WMLB ID, back to music, 1711 segue, 1714 segue, 1716 ID, 1718 tune, 1721 La Bamba, 1723 segue, 1726 Georgia, etc., etc.; fading weaker into noise level, so 1735 tune-out without my ever hearing a ``WNOE`` ID. BUT: Mike Cooper, Atlanta, reports at 2032 UT June 24 to the WOR iog: ``Now I've heard this bizarre ID, as well. Apologies for suggesting this was misheard, by George. I've heard the WNOE ID, as well, just minutes away from an WMLB ID. Maybe they plan to change the call letters? I didn't find anything in FCC AM database on WNOE. As I write this, am listening to an interview with a Georgia State Patrolman, done by host who refers to 1160, which was a business-news station then-owned by the current owner of WMLB. Odd.`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 90.1-WBFM, June 22 before 0500 UT, I am trying to listen to WCPE classical music via KUCO-FM Edmond OK, on one of my household radios with rod antenna, but increasingly overcome by `Music from the Hearts of Space` on KHCC 90.1 Hutchinson KS --- another classical station but unfortunately often a CCI problem here between them. Then at 0500 KHCC is atop announcing ``ending our broadcast day`` along with 89.5 and 90.9 satellite stations, and off! at 0501* leaving KUCO in the clear. Imagine that --- in this day and age a radio station signing off at local midnight when it does not have to. https://www.radiokansas.com/schedule.cfm says ``All programming available online 24-hours per day. Our FM transmitters broadcast 5 to midnight`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 107.9-WBFM, June 19 at 1918 UT visiting Government Springs Park in Enid, a quick tunearound finds a solid signal from ``US 107.9 --- Great American Country``. Stormy cool weather and high humidity mean tropo enhancement even in the afternoon; Tulsa and Wichita-area signals are stronger than usual, but what`s this? ``KWLS 107.9 WINFIELD KS 50.0 kW ERP, 150 m HAAT, 37-15-46 96-53-42 COUNTRY US 107.9 - REAL AMERICAN COUNTRY`` Normally I don`t hear anything on 107.9 above OKC KRXO 107.7, but this is not far away just over the frontier. FCC FM Query shows: KWLS' first license was granted 10-20-1980. But it was originally on 105.5 as KWKS. In the meantime it has had two other calls, but KWLS since 12/31/07, but on what frequency? 107.9 was licensed as of 4/28/09. But has there been a power increase since then? Such info is not easily found at FCC, if at all. Searching old DX reports on KWLS, we find circa 2006 it was the call on the 1290 Pratt KS AM station, far on the other side of Wichita; now it`s part of the Steckline empire, including 1210 KGYN Guymon OK, and the imaginary(?) 1370 KGNO Dodge City KS. While 107.9 is in I also find dead air on 107.5, maybe somecar nearby`s RF feeder not offturned (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 11835, June 24 at 0042, JBA carrier, so I wonder if it could be 3 x 3945 RV already? The only other 11835 is CNR2: straight thru from 00 to 13 except siesta break Wednesdays at 06-09 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. The shifty local-area scratchnoiseblobs are still around, e.g. June 19 at 1448 some of the approx. ranges: 6890-6920, 7225-7290, 7583-7640, 9010-9050, 9390-9460, 9725-9750, i.e. roughly 360 kHz apart --- and this was on inside longwire due to nearby storming (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 12302-USB, June 24 at 1446, informal Spanish 2-way ragchew, some whistling, stronger one with ``engine noise``, S9-S8; weaker one slightly off frequency; IDs? Of course not! Per Klingenfuss 2002y, 12302-SSB was a ship station channel 1225 paired with QSX 13149.0 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 18120-USB, June 20 at 2203, only phone signals on band are an N4 in Nashville and a WA5 in Texas, neither of whom enunciates calls clearly vs fading out and in, let alone fonetikaly.
