** ALBANIA [non]. 15770, April 1 circa 2015, WRMI relaying Prague in Amerenglish somewhat distorted, but too weak to copy by 2040 whether it`s still Radio Tirana --- which current sked shows is the only remaining time, 2030 Mon-Thu and Sat, blown away from 0230 or 0130 repeat times. See also USA: WRMI (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** ANTARCTICA. 15475.97-CUSB, March 30 at 1531, RNASG, LRA36 on again with a special, tnx tip from Manuel Méndez. Of three Brazilian KiwiSDRs, Pardinho is maxed out as too often the case: the best one has been getting too much publicity; wish they could increase its capacity. JBA via the one near Rio; better at Campo, so I stick on there for some Spanish mostly too weak to copy but ID in passing at 1538; 1545 brief feedback loop in talk, then music; 1553 full ID; 1602 this SDR times out after 30 minutes but may be restarted; Signal gone sometime between 1615 and 1620 tho did not hear a sign-off (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** ARGENTINA [non]. 9395, March 30 at 2130, WRMI, expecting to hear Italian hour from RAE, but instead it`s in Brazuguese! talking about this being a special program, due to COVID-19 quarantine; RAE relaying Radio Nacional domestic; no new programs now via WSMI [sic!], but replays of old shows, and these announcements in the 8 languages; see website for news. 2139 a bit of tango and into same info in German. Probably would have heard the other six during the whole hour. Then I see a report from Ivo Ivanov that today at 1300-1330 on 15770, RAE relay was in Spanish/Italian/French/Chinese. 7780, March 30 at 2352 I check the RAE `French` semihour via WRMI, and hear English, music, 2353 into Chinese. 5800, March 31 at 0241, this WRMI is still on with music, RAE French announcer from home with same info, part of 8-language rotation. 5010 is off and no //s on 5, 7 or 9 MHz bands. 5800 retuned at 0249, has gone off in meantime at odd hour. (No full survey of WRMIs this evening) (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** BRAZIL. 6010, March 30 at 1530, good signal with song in Brazuguese, on the Rio KiwiSDR still tuned here from my last Colombia check; so R. Inconfidência is certainly active from BH, at least now in the daytime; on my way to ANTARCTICA, q.v. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CANADA [and non]. 346-MCW kHz, March 27 at 0619 UT, dash and YXL, 500 watt ND beacon from Sioux Lookout, Ontario, not unusual but now about the only Canadian making it vs the high storm noise level. Also audible, 332-MCW kHz, IC, 400 watts from wIChita KS, tuned to 330-USB (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CANADA [and non]. Some NOTB NDBs are still making it thru the wall of storm noise from Nebraska eastward: 340-MCW kHz, March 28 at 0612 UT, dash and YY, which is 500 watts from Mont-Joli, Quebec [still off: my local EI on 341]. 351-MCW kHz, March 28 at 0617 UT, very tough copy amid storm crashes and QRM from the differently-pitched USA mashup of LI Little Rock, and IN International Falls; but there is a dash and seems like YDK --- but there is no YDK on this or any frequency. Only listee on 351 is 500-watt YKQ in Fort Rupert -- Waskaganish, Quebec, also heard before. I suppose the shattered Morse code I tried to copy could have been that. And again, the *only* phone station audible on entire 160m. His CQs are all identical, so I am suspecting automated recordings. Is he sound asleep, also set up for automated QSOs if anyone ever answers? CW hams are commonly automated, obviously hand-keying being too much trouble at least for routine CQs, so why not phone? But where are all the other contesters, and what contest is it? Per https://www.contestcalendar.com/weeklycont.php ``CQ WW WPX Contest, SSB: 0000Z, Mar 28 to 2359Z, Mar 29`` which is multi-band, everyone else on 80, 40, 20, 15 or 10m --- never mind the so-called WARC additional in-between bands (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CANADA. Re my two logs of VY2ZM, PEI on 1845-LSB and 1838-LSB: ``Hi Glenn, I just wanted to comment on this. WPX is the Worked Prefixes contest, one of the big ones where they activate rarer call letters for different countries. During contests, which go on for many hours, the phone operators would lose their voices if they had to keep calling CQ. So they have it pre-recorded. It often sounds much different than their voice when they speak to stations which comes back to the CQ. Contests are only allowed on the older bands 160 to 10, not the newer ones like 17. All the best from Ireland, and keep up the good work. Regards, Patrick Fitzpatrick`` I was also going to enquire why bother with a VY- call instead of VE- (or VA-). Not to deny anyone their fun, but this PX tactic seems totally artificial; still from the same common place, PEI in this case; administrations complicit in the game (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CHINA. 9200, March 29 at 1335, S2 JBM seems Chinese, like also on stronger CNR1 jammer 11785 tho not tried to match. Presumably CNR1 jammer against Sound of Hope. Not the same as the open carrier often heard here from the North American area (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CHINA [non]. 11880, March 30 at 1505, CRI Plus relay via CUBA is now here for A-20, ex-15700 at 14-16; S9+20 and undermodulated but sufficient today. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CHINA [non]. 11880, April 1 at 1445, NO signal from CRI Plus, English relay via CUBA, which started March 29 at 1400-1600, ex-15700 which has not come back either. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba. Nor anything on 9570, the pre-1400 Cuban relay in case forgot to QSY. But we do hear CRI this hour on 13710 via EAST TURKISTAN: see SAUDI ARABIA [non] (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** COLOMBIA. 2940.036 kHz, March 27 at 0608 UT, JBA carrier. The 2-3 MHz band is a vast wasteland with hardly any signals except WWV and the intermittent Canadian CG weather stations on 2598 & 2749. It would be a great place to alleviate the packed MWBC range 530-1710 kHz! It`s remarkable how seldom one hears any US harmonix from there. But I keep bandscanning almost every night, and still detect an AM carrier always offset plus from 2940 --- previously identified, and no doubt still, the second harmonic of 5 kW 1470, Radio Huellas, Cali; or rather the fundamental must be 1470.018. The harmonic is a bit stronger than usual tonight but no match for the heavy storm noise level (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** COSTA RICA. 18127-USB, April 1 at 1437, Javier, TI2##, the OSOB in contact from CR, call and name fonetik but too much fading to copy. Maybe only one-letter suffix. Just to show that propagation is barely open over this path (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** CUBA. 711.00, March 29 at 0041 just before sunset here, that presumed off-frequency Radio Rebelde carrier is still making a big het against 710 stations such as KCMO. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA [and non]. 711 kHz, April 1 at 0033, off-frequency carrier from presumed R. Rebelde still hetting 710 stations; also again with a beat upon it of approx. 200/minute = 3.33 Hz, which I have been assuming is from something in Eurafrica as TA carriers are just starting to fade in before 0053 UT sunset here, only 891 and 936 at first, presumed Algeria and Morocco. However if one Cuban can be off-frequency, so can another. Is the beat still there much later at night after TA fadeout time, before sunrise, and before anything from DU? 1 kHz het could be a deliberate jamming tactic to be even more off-putting than co-channel to ``wacky`` WAQI; but also annoying to Rebelde`s own audience, but with plenty of alternatives (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 711.00 kHz, April 2 at 0025, presumed R. Rebelde off-frequency hetting legitimate 710.00 kHz stations --- again and also again the ~200/minute beat or 3.33 Hz from another 711 kHz transmitter, in Cuba or somewhere. Now 31 minutes before LSS here of 0056 and only legit TA`s making it this early are 891 Algeria and much weaker 936 presumed Morocco. Since 711 was first widely heard across North America March 25, it seems everyone else quickly lost interest in it/them (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13633 & 13767 approx., March 26 at 1449, weak spurblobs with F# tone out of RHC 13700-AM. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 11850, March 27 at 0007, RHC is S9+20 and just barely modulated in Spanish; with flanking 11840 & 11860 JBA spurcarriers. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13575, 13637, 13764, 13828, 13892 approx., March 27 at 1406, FM/AM spurblobs with F# tones out of RHC 13700, this time multiples of about 63-64 kHz. First noted on 13637 at S9+10. Other fundamental, unrelated 13780, is still on at S9+30 but undermodulated. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13780, March 29 at 1459, RHC still on here at S9+10 but JBM, while // 13700 is much weaker but fully modulated. No spurs heard. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA [and non]. 13605, March 29 at 1330, Radio Martí loud & clear on revived A-20 channel, ex-13820 where wall-of-noise jamming continues from the incompetent DentroCuban Jamming Command, too stupid to figure out RM`s totally predictable and registered seasonal changes; but then Arnie forbids involvement with yanqui-run HFCC, so the jam frequency manager may not even be allowed to look at it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA [and non]. 13740, March 31 at 1337, RHC back here after having changed to 13780 since March 12; why? It`s S9+20 and // 13700 also strong. Something`s always wrong at RHC. This puts an end to the weak leapfrogs I had heard between 13700 and 13780 on 13620 and 13860 --- so now are there any 40 kHz apart? A JBA carrier on 13660 could be, but none on 13780. At 1449, 13660 is still there but 13740 is off, so 13660 is something else: A-20 HFCC shows something from UAE in Dari before 1400 on 13660; BBC Somali, does it still exist? before 1500 via Uzbekistan on 13660 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 11880, March 31 at 1443, CRI Plus relay is S9+10 but very undermodulated. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 11880, April 1 at 2326, RHC English is S9+10/20 but now distorted and hummy, much like 15140 has long been earlier in the day including 1900 English. Tsk2. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 15730, April 1 at 2329, RHC already opening Brazuguese for 2330, now also distorted much like 11880 English. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA [and non]. 6125, 7355, 7435, March 31 at 0227, the incompetent DentroCuban Jamming Command with wall-of-noise jamming on all three against nothing, since in A-20, Radio Martí this hour is now on 5980, 7335 and 7365 all with NO jamming! Also 6030 with jamming as usual but unusually atop it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA [and non]. 7335 & 7365, April 1 at 0008, finally there is some jamming audible against Radio Martí`s latest A-20 frequencies, but RM is atop. There is also still jamming against vacant RM frequencies 7435 and 7355; not to be confused with RM providing its own ``jamming`` in the form of DRM noise 7340-7345-7350 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** EAST TURKISTAN. 13755, March 29 at 1459 open carrier, 1500 Chinese, poor with flutter. At 2124 he`s working unheard WB7JB in Washington state; gives name as Edwin, in Columbus OH. Huh? Prop from PR would be unexpected, way above F2 MUF, and too far for sporadic E unless double-hop, also a rarity. Furthermore, am not hearing anything on 11820+ in our afternoons, which was another Sa`udi regular at 18-23. As of latest HFCC March 30, still not a single entry for ARS transmitters, nor even a blank space in the schedules by Broadcasters or FMOs. May well be long-path, aimed ENE (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TAIWAN [non]. 5800, UT Mon Mar 30 at 0129, tune-in WRMI just in time to hear Spanish closing of RTI yet again, another week of tests at 0100 --- or is this now permanent? Then at 0130.5 into R. Prague // 9395, replacing WOR which aired on both exactly one week ago (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TAIWAN [non]. 7780, April 1 at 2218, R. Taiwan in Spanish with Chinese lesson, confirmed new WRMI relay toward Europe, but only fair at UTwente SDR. Should be 2200-2230 only despite self-contradictory WRMI grid as 2200-2300 on 7780 #1 transmission sked; RTI publicity via Nino Marabello says they will be half-hours altho original Spanish may be for an hour. Not officially starting until UT April 6. 5010 // 5800 // 7780, April 2 at 0200, RTI Spanish via three WRMI frequencies contrary to schedule, repeating the ancient special about World Radio Day which was Feb 13 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY [and non]. 5960, March 28 at 2325, VOT makes it on the air, still on B-season frequency and hour for English to us, poor. By A-20 tomorrow to be at 2200 on 9830, perhaps again vs RTTY QRM from NAU PR. 9515, March 29 at 0305 & 0320, no signal yet from VOT`s A-20 frequency for English to us an hour earlier, ex-6125 at 0400. Greece or something on 9420 is detectable. Nor 9515 audible at UTwente. Maybe not until tomorrow. RM and jamming are already off 6125, replaced by 5980 until 0300. Finally at 0400 checking UTwente for 6125, no VOT either at old B-19 scheduling. However, Jon Collins in Birmingham UK was hearing the Asian frequency already on new A-20 schedule March 29 at 0317 UT: ``I`m listening to the Voice of Turkey in English from 0300 UT on 7275 kHz at excellent reception, strongest station I`ve heard. Tecsun PL-660, whip antenna``. 9515 maybe on but above MUF (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 15450, March 29 at 1326, JBA carrier on the first day of A-20, as VOT English to Europe and USward is back here from 1230, ex starting at 1330 on 12035. Let`s hope this propagation improve into summer. Off at 1331 check (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY [non]. 9830, March 29 at 2200, NO signal from VOT English to N America on the first day of A-20, but no NAU RTTY either, just my internal birdie. 2222 checking via UTwente, nothing there either, nor on ex-5960 which was starting at 2300. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler --- sporadic operation then and now (long before any CV excuse). 9515, March 30 at 0337, trying again for VOT English to W North America on new A-20 schedule from 0300. Oops, latest HFCC shows NOT sked on 9515 like A-19, but on 7275 not only for Europe but North America, invading our 40m hamband! and 7275 was heard the night before by Jon Collins in UK. That I must check; the // for Asia now 6165 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 9830, March 30 at 2200+, nothing from VOT English as A-20 scheduled to N America; just RTTY de NAU PR; nor at 2227. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler. 7275, March 31 at 0256, carrier cuts on and off and on at least thrice; 0259 IS & ID JBA in English, VP around S7 but no QRhaM as they are perfectly entitled to impose. Don`t TRT know that in the Americas, this is a hamband? Did no one at HFCC clue them in? Timesignal at 0300 is accurate with WWV, not late! Usual VOT sign-on to W N America with schedule including 9785, 9830 for earlier airings, but can`t copy it completely to detect any errors to be prolonged for the next 7 months. // 6165 to Asia is a JBA carrier. An earlier tentative version of HFCC A-20 had this on 9515 like last year, thus our expectation, rather than down to 7275 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 9830, March 31 at 2201, third day of A-20, VOT finally manages to get this transmission on air, English to North America east, but VP on the PL-880 with clip on wire; by 2220 on the NRD-545 it`s only poor S6-S8; no RTTY QRM anyway, I assume like ex-5960 at 2300 it will be hit or miss (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 7275, April 1 at *0259, TRT carrier cuts on with IS and English ID, VG via UTwente SDR, 5 + 1 timesignal; and sign on with full English schedule. I copy it in detail, and sure enough there are errors, which if typical, will last every day for the next 7 months of A-20!! Something`s always awry at Ankara. In order cited: ``1830 on 9785 to Europe 2030 on 9620 to S Asia, Australia 2200 on 9830 to Europe and eastern USA, Canada 1930 on 15520 to Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Uzbekistan, etc. 0300 on 9515 to Europe and eastern USA, Canada 0600 on 6165 to ME, Arabian peninsula Please note that the 23-00 and 04-05 broadcasts are pre-recorded`` Then into the Tuesday March 31 news, presumably recorded not later than 2030, starring with what else? The COVID-19 toll. Now all the errors; compared to their HFCC schedule at: http://www.hfcc.org/data/schedbybrc.php?seas=A20&broadc=TRT The first broadcast of the day is totally omitted, 1230 on 15450! 1930 on 15520 is really at 1630 UT! 1830 is really on 5945, not 9785! 2030 is really on 9875, not 9620! 2200 on 9830 is correct --- when on; how did that happen?? 0300 is really on 7275 as I am hearing it, not 9515 as first planned! 0600 on 6165 is really at 0300 UT! Duh, the 23-24 & 04-05 pre-recorded times are now at 22-23 & 03-04 as just mentioned (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 9830, April 1 at 2200, NO signal from VOT English, despite this being the *only* transmission correctly announced in their sign-on! RTTY from NAU Puerto Rico is however running until it stops at 2210*, still no VOT, all as monitored at UTwente, let alone Enid. That`s a 25% success rate so far for VOT in A-20. Something`s always awry at Ankara, erroneous at Emirler. 9830, April 1 at 2347 recheck direct, now it`s on -- Turk music and soon conveniently ID in German, Die Stimme der Türkei! So they couldn`t get English going on time, but sometime since 2210 came on the air including spurious 2300- hour in German, just like they used to do far too often on 5960 at 0000 failing to turn that off after English at its later winter hour. At 2352 runs the multi-multi-language ID filler reel starting with English. But wait: there`s more. 2353 IS keeps on going, and BTW, it sounds off-key in USB unless more precisely tuned to 9830.04 or .05. 2356 starts inserting ID amid IS in yet another language; 2359 I recognize it as Luso-Portuguese! Another totally off-schedule SW transmission. April 2 at 0000:03, timesignal ends 3 seconds late compared to WWV, and sign-on in Portuguese takes 2.5 minutes to list all the satellite parameters. Since they can`t get their SW frequencies right in English, I shudder to think how they may mangle all that Ku-band info. 0003 finally starts the notícias, still on at 0011. But we don`t get another full hour; by 0024 recheck it`s off. I can just imagine the sleepyrator at Emirler finally arousing. Did management notice? WRTH 2020 shows NO VOT Portuguese at any hour on SW; a rare treat. I hope some Portu-Brasilians caught it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 349-MCW kHz, March 31 at 0610 UT, GW, 25-watt NDB at Greenwood, Mississippi (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non?]. 5000.0000, April 2 at 0018, checking WWV for exact time compared to TURKEY, q.v., also the minute for propagation info: SF=69, K=3, no disturbances past or future --- but with extremely fast RTTY QRM on the plus side covering 5000-5004! It`s even audible by tuning 5000-LSB. What`s that?!?! The little SF band is sacrosanct (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 13565-CW, March 28 at 1418, HIFER beacon K6FRC in much stronger than usual, soon fades down; probably HF sporadic E (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 11720, Friday March 27 at 2100 after YDD runup, VOA News, the anchor ``reporting by remote``, with AP and Reuters voicers; 2102 already optional cutaway for all those affiliates believing that two minutes of news is plenty! 3 minutes more for the rest of us until 2105 `Music Time in Africa` starts. Heather is as Hyper as ever, but admits she is producing from ``portable home studio``, causing format changes, but one could not tell the difference. She mentions Corona Virus and later reports on how it has messed up music tours, such as someone who had to try three different air carriers to get back from Europe to Bamako, buying a ticket on one after another (no refunds?). So at least we know this is new, not another repeat from November. I make a point of listening to most of it, since it`s our last chance until B-20 --- maybe --- as for A-20 this Grimesland reverse supersignal is abandoned, back to Botswana on 15580 during this hour. And this airing is still unknown to Heather herself, or some other announcer promoting MTIA times, even webcasts! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. Encore is still on the WBCQ 7490 program schedule for UT Monday 00-01. 9455, March 30 after 0200, `Encore` on WRMI with a good signal via Rochester NY KiwiSDR. BTW, Brice Avery says his day job is a hospital doctor, so he`s plenty busy. He says there will be another Encore broadcast this Tuesday March 31 at 1300 on WRMI 15770, which is NE toward Europe (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 15555-USB, March 27 at 2104, good signal from WJHR gospel huxter, peaking S7; HF sporadic E enhancement? No such improvement from extremely more powerful neighbor 15610 WEWN, JBA S3-S5. Have not logged WJHR since January 9! Has it been off and/or just not propagating with its peanut-power? This is the perfect excuse for me to quote, just in from Terry Krueger, now living near to WJHR: ``All times/dates GMT, Niceville, FL (except mobile logs) IC-R75, NRD-535, ICF-7600GR, active loop, random wire 15555 usb. FLORIDA. WJHR, Milton. 1515 3/13/20. Ventured to Milton, specifically to 5920 Oak Manor Drive this day. A drive into a very rural, "private property" series of narrow roads with heavily-forested, large property homes. Got to the driveway of the large house where WJHR is. The antenna wasn't even visible due to the massive long-leaf pines and live oak trees. From the distance, the garage doors were open, so someone (George S. Mock?) was presumably home. Yet, we did not proceed. This looked like a place where you'd be met by shotgun blasts and a series of attack dogs unleashed. Earlier in the week, I called the phone number listed in the WRTH 2020 to inquire about visiting. It dropped to a fax. Then I emailed the address listed. No reply. Shocker! So, that's about as far as we got in an attempt to visit WJHR. And absolutely not on the air at just after 1400 GMT check when back in downtown Milton. But a recheck at 1515, there it was! However, a very, very poor signal. You'd think at this proximity, the signal would not be skipping over this much despite their actual low power (and something remotely groundwave). Yet, not. See: https://transition.fcc.gov/ib/sand/neg/hf_web/WJHR.txt Suspect the FCC to date never visited this one. And never will`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 15555-USB, March 31 at 2224, gospel huxter quite readable at S7-S8, as WJHR is getting a sporadic-E boost. DX Map confirms lots of Es over eastern US up to 52-60 MHz MUFs, altho no blob exactly between us. Its incredibly more powerful neighbor 15610 WEWN manages only S4-S5, hardly better than normal for it. I had noticed signs of 15555-USB earlier in the day, and BTW its nominal schedule ends at 2200* (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 15555-USB, April 1 circa 2015, WJHR audible again with what else; this time also neighbors 15825 WWCR, 15610 WEWN, 13845 WWCR and perhaps also 15770 WRMI are getting sporadic-E boosts, the latter relaying Prague in Amerenglish somewhat distorted, but too weak to copy by 2040 whether it`s still Radio Tirana --- see ALBANIA [non]. DX MAPS show numerous HF blobs above 16 MHz MUFs mostly over eastern USA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 17815, March 29 at 1456, S9+10 gospel huxter in English, the OSOB; as WHRI is now registered 250 kW at 85 degrees for Africa, daily at 14-21 UT, but maybe not fully occupied (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 17815, Mon Mar 30 at 1504, no signal from WHRI which could be on here daily now; heard yesterday so more likely Sundays, a Special Day for such adherents (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 13685-13690-13695, March 30 at 1425, DRM noise from WINB is gone for A20, not around 15115 either, but forgot the NF: 15745-15750-15755 at 11-17 M-F; the rest, per HFCC: 0830-1100 M-F on 9975-9980-9985; same frequency Sat & Sun 0700-1000 --- really on weekends too now?? 0700-0830 M-F 7310-7315-7320 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 15745-15750-15755, March 31 at 1334, no signal from WINB DRM noise where A-20 scheduled M-F at 11-17 UT; is off or not propagating, daring MUF, 2+ MHz higher than ex-13685-13690-13695? 15770 WRMI & 15825 WWCR are the usual JBA carriers; still no WINB at 1450, when 15034-USB CHR Ontario nearby is poorly propagating. I remember to rerecheck 15750 at 1659, just in time to hear WINB hybrid signal weakly, off at 1700* sharp (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 17774.991 approx., March 30 at 1501, KVOH propagating S4-S6 with jazz, nice for a change, but not for long: ID in English as on ``17.775``, into Spanish about CV-19 with some more jazz mentioned with accompaniment; unseems like `Frecuencia al Dia` as sked now on Monday & Friday. As always slightly off-frequency minus from old(?)) transmitter; also as compared to WWV/H carrier on 15000.000. I don`t see jazz explicitly on the Spanish program schedule, but there is a `Jazz Session` hour in English, at 1600 Saturdays (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5085, UT Wed April 1 at 0109, WTWW-2 is off, so no hamshow from Ted; but 5130 WBCQ is on for its W5KUB ham show, caller from Wyoming about gardening (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 820, March 29 at 0647 UT, the guys at Red Eye Radio`s WBAP are getting torn up by CCI from mostly women voices, also talk in English. This should not be happening so close to a `clear` channel from Fort Worth. Makes SAH of 128/minute, just over 2.0 Hz. But wait: fortunately at 0653 UT two clear IDs for WCPT in program promo, so it`s Chicago`s Progressive Talk. U2 5.8/1.5 kW from Willow Springs. Night pattern is supposed to be all to the NNE, nothing thisaway: https://transition.fcc.gov/Bureaus/MB/Databases/AM_DA_patterns/1717086-128498.pdf Daytime map is roughly circular but an expanded lobe to the SW. https://publicfiles.fcc.gov/am-profile/wcpt/contour-maps/ Obviously WCPT is on day facilities, invoked on emergency basis, or error? Like to think the former. RER is anything but Progressive. WWBA in FL used to collide with WBAP also with RER, but not now (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. Re my off-frequency 1539.96 log of KGBC Galveston, the one with classic rock? Stephen Luce, Houston TX replies: ``Glenn, regarding what you are hearing on 1540: KGBC is currently running music fill, having lost its latest Spanish language religion paid programming client. They are promoting something called "Edge Radio" that is "coming soon." Music genres being played are all over the place, but I am pretty sure it was KGBC you heard mixing with KXEL`` (Glenn Hauser, WORLD OF RADIO 2027) ** U S A. Enid supposed to hit 85 degrees heat wave March 26 but only made it to 77 at Woodring in the afternoon. By 10 am = 15 UT it`s 60, but humid with considerable regional tropo; as often, we are at the edge of level 1 enhancement, but rises to level 4-5 around Shreveport. On my antenna aimed about SE I start bandscannng at 1510: RF 45, KOTV ``6`` Tulsa *still* hasn`t repacked, in solid at 1510 on 6-1 CBS Price Is Right, along with 6-2 KQCW-SD, 6-3 NewsOn6. At 1515, BAD DX signals not enough to decode: 35, 31, 28, 22, 21, 14, 12, 10, 9 --- and OKC signals also BAD due to DX QRM or QRP: 24, 23, 19, 18, 17=Enid, 16, 15, 13! At 1521, RF 32, 21-1 KPXJ-HD with Judge Jerry; 21-2 KPXJ-ME, 21-3 KPXJ-MO, 21-4 KPXJ-AN, standing for MeTV, Movies, AntennaTV. 21-3 also has a LR bug that looks like NOIR. KPXJ is 1000 kW from Minden LA, east of Shreveport in that market. If really in Minden, 370 miles from here RF 26, 6-1 KTAL-DT, NBC, Shreveport-Texarkana; call originally stood for TALlest tower for a while midway in Vivian LA, 329 miles from here, which under current conditions is real DX. Marginal briefly, no chance to explore its subs. No sign of KTEN Ada OK in the way, maybe already repacked away from 26. {KTAL could also conveniently stand for the tri-state area, TexArkLa, more conventionally rendered as ArkLaTex. Is latex named for two of?} RF 22, 22-1 HSN1 -- only match is merely KTOU-LD, 15 kW in OKC, which takes tropo to visiblize here. RF 20, 19-1 KQCW-HD, unlike only SD on KOTV RF 45, 6-2 RF 11, 11-1, OETA-HD, i.e. KOED Tulsa with the same subs at 13 KETA At 1638, now from the north: RF 26, 24-1, Fox, i.e. KSAS Wichita KS; This popped in still tuned to 26 after KTAL gone. Better at 1719 check along with 24-2 TBD; 24-3 Comet. At 1720, RF 31, 31-1 KDCU-DT, Derby KS (Wichita) Univision, along with: 31-2 Grit, 31-3 Escape, 31-4 Laff, 31-5 Court. Contrary to W9WI.com which shows 31 KDCU as 46-1 Univision, 46-2 UniMas, only RF 12, 33-1 KSCW-DT, 33-2 Decades, 33-3 Antenna, 33-4 StarTV. That`s Wichita KS. W9WI.com has this on RF 12 with 36-1 CW only RF 35, 36-1 MyTV, 36-2 Stadium, 36-3 Charge!, 36-4 Dabl --- this is KMTW Hutchinson KS. NOT as in W9WI.com: 36-2 Zuus Country, 36-3 GetTV At 1726, another survey of BAD signals: 8, 9, 11, 13, 16, 21, 23, 24 RF 10, KAKE-DT PSIP ID on both 10-1 & 10-2 with MeTV bug LR. Wichita (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, WOR) ** U S A. Another tropo TVDX opening on March 27. I start checking at 1508 UT and find some signals from both Tulsa and Wichita markets are decoding. There is a Level 5-strong blob over the SE corner of KS, but Enid is again on the edge of Level 1. RF 31, 31-1 KDCU-DT, Derby (Wichita) KS, Univision is solid along with the subs 31-2 thru 31-5 as described yesterday. Tropo usually fades away by noon, but this megawatt must be in a pipeline/duct to here. Checking around 2200 UT, it`s even making it on rabbit ears via my alternative TV and STB! And still past 2400. Altho PSIP still reads Escape on 31-3, bug in LR the past hours has been MYSTERY, and full-screen net ID shows MYSTERY as a subset of COURT! Yet by 2100 UT, Hepburn map predixions showed NO tropo between here and Kansas. Back at 1510, via the main rooftop antenna, BAD signals on: 9, 10, 11, 13, 15, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 26, 28, 30, 32, 33, 34, 35, some of which are just OKC ruined by DX QRM. RF 45, 6-1, KOTV Tulsa is in solid again RF 12, 33-1, KSCW-DT again from Wichita At 1654, RF 20, 19-1, KQCW-HD. Muskogee (Tulsa market), 550 kW with CP to almost double power and tower HAAT, from site unknown, different? And RF 28, 44-1 ION the only ID but we know it`s KTPX-TV Okmulgee (Tulsa), megawatt At 1656, BAD signal on RF 6 --- that takes some doing via my highband/UHF only antenna for channels 7 and up! Per W9WI.com, the ONLY ch 6 of any type or power in OK or KS is: KBSD-DT, Ensign KS (Dodge City), the 31 kW ERP satellite of KWCH Wichita CBS, having managed to retain its old analog channel. Note, this is in SW KS, not the tropo epicenter of SE KS; and off the back of my antennas. RF 9, another BAD. W9WI.com shows absolutely NO 9s of any power or type in OK or KS (what became of the ``Enid`` LP CP axually in OKC?). One in AR: 3 kW in Fort Smith. My other antenna which is all-channel, is generally out of use with broken VHF and reflector elements; is also half as high as the other one, barely clearing roof level. But I energize it and its amp again to compare: it is not getting anything on RF 6, but: At 1702, RF 22, 23-1 KOKI-TV Tulsa, Fox with noon news unlike OKC`s; 23-2 MeTV; 23-3 EscapeT --- yes, looking very closely, the PSIP ends with a capital T, not a ! RF 34, 41-1 KMYT-TV Tulsa with My, 41-2 GetTV, 41-3 GritTV, 41-4 HNI. The STB confusingly mixes in my local virtual 41, K17JN-D, the 3ABN satellator for which 41 never had anything to do with Enid, but rather its flagship? station in far Ardmore! Those 41s go all the way to -9, some of which are Audio-only. RF 36, 17-1 TBN-HD, 17-2 Hillsong, 17-3 SMILE [kids], 17-4 Enlace [Spanish], 17-5 POSITIV. This has to be megawatt KDOR-TV Bartlesville OK, originally on NTSC and DTV 17, now repacked so at least no longer can QRM Enid`s only station. W9WI.com has a different lineup for this TBN and presumably the others: 17.3 JUCE, 17.5 Salsa (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. Minor regional tropo morning of March 29, much less than previous days. Hepburn maps predicted minor enhancement south of here, not north, but only decodee circa 1500 UT is RF 31, 31-1 KDCU-DT Derby KS; several other BAD VHF and UHF bars match for the Wichita market (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, March 27 at 0050-0056, not in the order tuned: 576, 612, 621, 684+, 747, 774(2), 837, 891*, 1044, 1053, 1215, 1305(2), 1422, 1575. *891 strongest. Also, 837 has a slow beat of 72/minute = 1.2 Hz. There are high-powers in Iran, Ethiopia, Eritrea, but more likely low-powers in Canary Islands/Spain, but no mwoffset matches (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, March 29 from 0042 a few minutes before LSS, when the lowbanders are not yet coming: 891=strongest, 909, 999, 1044, 1053, 1089, 1107(2), 1152, 1215, 1305(2), 1413, 1422, 1575 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 711 kHz, March 26 at 0615 UT, carrier still here beating against 710 stations, and itself again with a 192/minute = 3.2 Hz SAH as heard at 0032. Presumed one of the seven Radio Rebelde, CUBA transmitters; if exactly 711.000, which TA could be 3.2 Hz away? A near-match at mwoffsets, 3.0 Hz below: ``710.9970 AOE SNRT Al Idaâ Al Amazighia (Laâyoune=El Aaiún) 24h 2018-02-16`` --- a.k.a. MOROCCO; not sure why still abbr`d AOE, meaning Spanish West Africa? That place is axually in occupied WESTERN SAHARA right across from Canary Islands. 711, March 27 at 0047 UT sunset check, the hetty carrier is still there for the third night (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) MORE at CUBA UNIDENTIFIED. 2800, March 29 at 0613 UT, JBA carrier vs high storm noise level --- likely second harmonic of one of the hundreds of 1400 kHz stations; rather than fourth harmonic of one of the few 700s, nor 5 x 560. Alert: worth further pursuit also by others (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 9200, March 28 at 0238, mystery open carrier steady at S7. Have continued to hear this for many weeks, occasionally (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 9795, March 29 at 2229, S9 tonal language, SE Asian? Rising intonation at end of phrases like Burmese, but unseems that. HFCC A-20 as of March 28 has a 9795 gap between 21 and 23: NHK Japanese before, FEBC Iba multilingual westward afterwards. My guess would be the latter, Philippines in some minolity language. No clues in expired B-19 skeds either (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED [and non]. 9795, March 30 at 2158-2200+, no signal, nor at 2227-2230+, unlike yesterday with something SE Asian(?). Sometime after 2300 however, when my inkpen failed, 9795 does contain something like that, presumed FEBC Philippines. Maybe they start an hour earlier on Sundays (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) WORLD OF RADIO HITLIST UPDATE MARCH 30 Hi Glenn, My latest Hitlist update. https://www.w4uvh.net/hitlist.htm 1) Updated UTC offsets under Croatia, Germany, Greece, Romania 2) Japan - R Japan: Added second link for archived/on-demand shows The next update will be 5 April to reflect change to UTC offset due to DST change in New Zealand.
