Surprised to hear same Qur`an on three different 7 MHz frequencies in // --- well, not quite; comparing on different receivers, they were slightly out of synch with each other, May 28 at 0537, 7305 leading 7260, more melodic than your average muezzin, with pauses for plain speech in Arabic; 7150 slightly behind 7260 and 7305 at 0542 when segué to secular music, Arabic talk. At 0545, 7305 definitely strongest and 7260 weakening. Per new sked from DX Mix News, Bulgaria, Issoudun, France relay started May 24 on 7305 during the 0500 hour; per old skeds, 7260 is Skelton and 7150 is Sines, both under auspices of VTC while 7305 is TDF. All these are aimed back at northern Africa (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) A broadcast announcing as the Kor`an programme (in Arabic) must be from Algeria and is being heard today (May 28). Tentatively I heard "Al-Djazair" announced too - but too quickly to be 100% sure. Transmissions are not quite according to the frequency list sent out by Gordon Brown via Wolfgang Büschel at the end of April. At tune in 0640 I found 11615 // 9535 - both went off at 0657. At 0708 I found 13570 // 11620 and at 0815 I found 13650 // 15230. 15230 went off at 0957 and a quick scan of 11, 13, 15 and 17 MHz reveals no alternative. 13650 continues. They could be via French ISS facilities - as originally listed - as I noted similarly strong signals on RFI frequencies 9790, 11700 and 15300 same time. 13650 closed at 1057 to make way for CRI English at 1100. No alternative frequency located after 1100 so far. Positive ID heard as Al-Djazair, so it is the Radio Kor`an programme from Algeria, and probably via France (Noel R. AIR BEGINS ITS NEW TALENT HUNT http://www.mynews.in/fullstory.aspx?storyid=5392 Port Blair: To discover and encourage new and young talents, the All India Radio (AIR) has decided to organise a classical music competition, to be held in two stages. The preliminary stage will be held in each station of AIR, while the final competition will be held in Delhi and Chennai for the Hindustani and Karnatic music respectively, AIR Programme Executive Sanjib Gain told UNI here today. Mr Gain said participants between 16 to 24 years of age were allowed in the competition. However, performing music artistes of AIR were not allowed to take part in the talent hunt. The competition would cover vocal and instrumental music. The preliminary rounds would be held from August 11. Winner of the same will be recorded for the final one, Mr Gain added. Em 25 de maio, por volta de 2218, em Porto Alegre (RS), o colunista captou a emissora normalmente em tal freqüência, quando um padre falava sobre "a conversão de Saulo ao cristianismo". When I heard somewhat religious-sounding songs with full orchestra, in unID language on 12260.0, S9+10 at 2013 May 27, I suspected I had something new and significant. Could it be a harmonic, 2 x 6130? But nothing audible there so early in the afternoon. Hmmm, WYFR still carries Taiwan relays and also does its own Chinese programming, so let`s look around for parallels --- soon found one on 11740, which I remembered is a WYFR frequency; trouble is they were not in sync. I finally decided that 12260 was a split second ahead of 11740. Could not be a WYFR mixing product, as there is also nothing midway on 12000, so two strixe against that idea. Everything fell into place when I fired up the Aoki list: 12260 is a Sound of Hope frequency, so jammed, of course by CNR-1, no longer Firedrake. 11740 is Radio Free Asia, in Chinese via Tinian, and WYFR, not in Chinese does not come on 11740 until 2200. SECURITY TIGHTENED AROUND STATE TV, RADIO OFFICES OVER COUP RUMOURS Security has been tightened around the premises of the Malagasy state TV and radio stations following rumours that some military officers were planning to stage a coup, the independent newspaper Les Nouvelles web site reported on 27 May. About eight armed soldiers have been deployed around the offices of the Television Malagasy (TVM) and Radio Nationale Malagasy (RNM) in the capital Antananarivo in a bid to control movements by staff. The Les Nouvelles web site said details are "still sketchy" on the alleged plot. An unnamed official of the radio downplayed the deployment and termed the exercise "a simple security measure". A renowned presenter with the state TV confirmed the circulation of rumours that "some high-ranking army officers were planning to forcefully get in and go live", while a high-ranking officer with the national gendarmerie confirmed knowledge of the alleged plot, which he said "could be a move to destabilize the country". He added that "this should not be taken lightly". BBCM observed that state TV did not mention any coup rumours and proceeded with normal programming in its 27 May 1000 gmt bulletin. A few significant observations. 1340, KEBC, OKC normally alone on channel in daytime here in Enid, but could hear something underneath sportstalk at 2022 UT. Most likely is KJMU Sand Springs, near Tulsa. Maybe I could have pulled it thru a null if I had a directional antenna. KJMU was off the air from last Oct to Feb, per reports from Bruce Winkleman via DXLDs 7-136 and 8- 020. I wonder if they did any upgrading in the meantime. They are of course limited to 1000 watts non-direxional, but the ground system, etc., could have been improved. A site along the Arkansas River would help. Indeed KJMU is the only possibility, assuming there is no skywave. Altho a heavily-populated `graveyard` channel nationwide, 1340 has a big unoccupied hole around here, as is obvious from the NRC AM Pattern Book --- in KS, only two stations along the extreme eastern border with MO. None in the TX panhandle, unless you include Lubbock; the onetime Pampa station is long gone. None in SE Colorado. I should have tried harder in the daytime at quiet rural locations in western OK or KS, and/or with defacto fence beverages, to better my NRC distance record for KSSR Santa Rosa NM, which I think has been silent for a few years now, perhaps never to return. Per FCC AM Query for facility number 29504, there was an involuntary transfer of ownership after the original owner J. MICHAEL ESQUIBEL, was DECEASED, to JOSEPH M. ESQUIBEL, PERSONAL REPRESENTATIVE, presumably his son or heir, which went thru on Feb 13, 2006. KSSR is still LICENSED: as of 01/01/2008 and License Expires 10/01/2013. And as far as FCC are concerned, on the air, even if it isn`t. If anyone is travelling along Route 66 (or rather I-40), or US 54/84 in the Santa Rosa area before I get out there again, please note whether 1340 is on the air (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) [see reply below] 1170, KFAQ, Tulsa at 2026 UT was accompanied by IBOC buzz on each side. Not on at this time, 2027 UT, allowing Spanish gospel from Texas on 990 to be audible, KFCD Farmersville in The Metroplex, and also C&W music on 1010, KIND Independence KS. When KTOK IBOC is on, these are totally blown away by the buzz. 930, WKY, OKC, still IBOC-free, despite reports it would be next. 640, WWLS, OKC/Moore/Norman, strong IBOC on as usual totally blocking 630 and 650, and as always, also bothering KSKY 660. 620, KMKI, Plano TX, Disney for The Metroplex, has IBOC on, as can be heard bothering 610 Kansas City, tho not distinguishable from much stronger WWLS IBOC on 630 (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST) Maybe instead of guessing whether KSSR has been silent for several years or making the statement that it will never return, you should check your facts and possibly contact the station as I did several months ago. KSSR has not been silent for several years, but it has had a very on- off-on-off-on-off situation and just recently had an STA for silent operation expire and I was assured by email from someone related to KSSR that it is back on the air. I believe the transfer was from father to son. KIVA 95.9 in Santa Rosa, which isn't co owned with KSSR, is on the KSSR tower and they have an Application to go from a Class A with 1.5 kW at 36 meters to a Class C2 with 50 kW at 24 meters, still from the AM's tower. When I asked several questions about KSSR of local folks in Santa Rosa, many were more then willing to tell me what I wanted to know, if they had the answer. I would also assume that KJMU, licensed to Sand Springs, a Tulsa suburb and serving Tulsa, is back on the air with the new owner Birach Broadcasting. I am also assuming they did upgrades after buying the station. Why do you spell directional or some other items that require a c instead with an x? It's kinda of annoying. -- Sincerely, (Paul B. Walker, Jr., DX LISTENING DIGEST) Paul, You are certainly a fount of info, and by posting my item, I got the info needed without having to contact the station. Thanks very much. Now I`ve used up a lot of my saved keystroxe. 73, (Glenn Hauser, ibid.) Glenn, KSSR has been off the air well over a year. The FM is barely making it. Listening to Voice of Russia tonight, I tried to imagine the reaction of a modern day Rip Van Winkle had he heard today's broadcast after waking up following a 25 year sleep. Faulty units now in its 3rd phase in step: 15205-centered - 50 kHz wide range either side is useless at my place today. Two of the eight 500 kW beasts at BSKSA Riyadh transmission center carry out BUZZ tones of approx. 15 kHz wide on the various bands 41/31/25/19 and 16 mb in past 18 months. But in past days one of the faulties put out an ignition plug signal of 500 kHz width, and a buzz tone of 350 kHz width. Arabic program to Europe at 1600-1800 UT puts out the ignition peaks on 15010 to 15505 kHz; terrible buzz tone on 15105 to 15450 range. May 26 (Wolfgang Büschel, Germany, dxldyg via WORLD OF RADIO 1410, DX LISTENING DIGEST) Maybe now there will be international/ITU outrage at this?? I was also hearing 15205 buzz around 1645 May 26, but local line noise level was too much for the wide spread you heard --- at least I think it was local line noise! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 1410, DX LISTENING DIGEST) Now at 1800-2300 UT to N Af on 11915 kHz centered 30 kHz BUZZ. Covers also 11758 to 12138 kHz with ignition like spikes tonight. wb Read some comment in a newsgroup last week: Saudi Arabia is super rich by petro dollars, but STILL A THIRD WORLD COUNTRY (Wolfgang Büschel, Germany, dxldyg via WORLD OF RADIO 1410, DX LISTENING DIGEST) BUZZY transmission from Riyadh 15205 kHz, HQ program to Europe, 1600- 1800 UT covers 14898 to 15680 kHz with terrible BUZZ signal and ignition like scratches on the sidebands. 1630 UT, May 28 (Wolfgang Büschel, Germany, dxldyg via DX LISTENING DIGEST) It's effectively making the whole band unusable here. Similar with 11915 Wolfgang has reported on at 1800-2300. So will this have been reported on by other broadcasters/administrations and the Saudis informed or should we as listeners complain to someone? (Mike Barraclough, England, May 28, ibid.) The ITU and various national administrations have only themselves to blame for allowing the 15205 buzz to go on and on, when it was confined to only one frequency. Who care about the end-users, the poor listeners? (gh, DXLD) Radio BSKSA was heard with a program in English from 0955 to 1225 hours on 15250 kHz. Apparently in Saudi Arabia are encountered great problems with their super power transmitters and antennas. Three of them emit signals with a sound known among the listeners as “buzzy” interfering adjacent stations. The strongest of them can be heard from 3 to 6 hours on 15170 kHz; from 9 to 12 hours on 11935 kHz; from 12 to 15 hours on 17820 kHz; from 16 to 18 hours on 15205 kHz and after 18 hours on 11915 kHz (Rumen Pankov, R. There was also a pulse built into the buzz (Dr Derek Lynch, Mullingar, Ireland, May 28, DX LISTENING DIGEST) BSKSA huge buzzy transmitter centered on 11915, no doubt the same unit as before 1800 on 15205, heard May 28 at 2118. Hello Mr. Hauser, a friend of mine attended the Dayton Hamfest and got word of a ham radio show on shortwave from a QSL card he picked up. He e-mailed me and it turns out it is the same fellow that was doing the talk radio shows on the now defunct KAIJ out of Dallas. I found the website http://www.tedrandall.com and it has a program called "QSO" listed on WBCQ at 3 pm and 11 pm Eastern on 7415. [1900 and 0300 UT] I tuned in at about 2:30 pm Eastern [1830 UT] and the signal from WBCQ on 7415 was quite strong. At the top of the hour they started the program "This Week in Amateur Radio"; they ran that program for about 8 minutes. Then WBCQ abruptly switched to the advertised show called "QSO". I immediately got a flashback of the old KAIJ! I had attempted to listen to the ham show and the wrong program would run time after time. They would play the wrong broadcast of World Of Radio. When the program did start on WBCQ some 8 minutes after the hour it featured an interview or QSO of Ted Randall and Ronnie Milsap. This was one of the best radio shows I have listened to in years. WBCQ signal was 599 here in Compton California and it was very enjoyable. I called WBCQ to compliment the program as it did not have all the goofy junk you hear on so many ham radio type programs. I was not about to ask about the late start as I assumed it was an error. I actually got a live person on the phone who was courteous and fun to talk to. Wanted to pass word along about this radio show as you may not know about it. You may want to pass word along as it is quite good and they have a very nice web site. It looks like WBCQ has some real interesting programs! Love World Of Radio! (Bob Jamison, Compton, California, May 25, WORLD OF RADIO 1410, DX LISTENING DIGEST) What day(s) of the week (and dates) did you hear the QSO show? It`s not on WBCQ`s online schedule, and QSO website doesn`t make this clear either? 73, (Glenn to Bob, via DXLD) Hello Mr. Hauser, The day is Sunday and the times given to me were 3 PM and 11 PM Eastern. I did listen to the broadcast today and the program was about Ronnie Milsap. It was an interview with Mr. Randall and Ronnie Milsap and it was one of the best radios shows I have heard in a long time (other than World Of Radio)! I did notice that the interview or QSO as they call it is now on the http://tedrandall.com website. I downloaded it for some of my friends to listen to. I did hear while investigating all this that WBCQ was shutting down two frequencies but the fellow I spoke with on the phone said that the two frequencies is have been spoken for by a preacher and will remain on the air. I know these shortwave stations must pay their bills but it sure is boring with nothing but preachers on the air. My phone call to WBCQ was very pleasant, the person awake and friendly. I always write and tell them I am listening to World Of Radio. To answer your question directly, the day of the program is Sunday and the times listed were 3 PM and 11 PM Eastern on 5/25/08. For some reason the 11 PM show did not air. I double checked and 11 PM Eastern is listed as a broadcast time. Good to hear from you! Thank you for your e-mail! (Bob Jamison (Nicoli), Compton, California, DX LISTENING DIGEST) Hello Glen[n], Just getting in at an ungodly hour. Thanks so much for your e-mail. Just launched the website and got the radio show back on the air. Trying to recover from the KAIJ fiasco. Wheeew! Such as the obvious no day mentioned on the website! Would forget my XXX if it were not attached. We were getting ready to go to Dayton to pass out some 10,000 QSL cards and trying to get all together turned out to be quite a task. We will be on several other stations as it looks right now but have not nailed down times and frequencies. It is a pleasure working with Al Wiener seems to have a real heart for shortwave broadcasting. We will be airing another program called “To Abundance and Beyond”, an interview show of outstanding folks in business that have learned how to achieve and make things work. The host will be a guy by the name of Alan Guin. I will co-host or at least get in his way! That will air on WBCQ Sundays at 6 pm I believe EST [sic]. I will double check and let you know the exact time. Al seems to have a much better grasp of putting compelling programming on the air than the folks I am used to working with. Mundane programming has just about finished off terrestrial broadcast radio. I believe compelling programming can be produced and paid for on shortwave; it just takes work. Seems like most of the owners and managers of shortwave stations want to sell time cheap to preachers and churches with no thought to a listening audience and building on the uniqueness of shortwave radio! I have got a boatload of e-mail from the broadcast on WBCQ. It only shows that folks do listen and they do respond. From an e-mail I sent out a few months ago: We had the pleasure of joining our good friend Ronnie Milsap, WB4KCG, and putting his new home “radio broadcast” studio together. I figured out the “radio configuration” of the console with Matt, David soldered connectors and organized the wiring. Holly provided the “broadcast IT tech support” for the new configuration. We all had a lot of fun. When we were finished with the studio Ronnie sat down and we recorded a great edition of the QSO radio show. Ronnie tells his story about his first interest in ham radio and the story of him getting his license. In the interview for the first time, he tells the story how he was rejected by his mother and raised by his grandparents. He talks about his experiences at the blind school as well as the very touching story of losing the limited vision in his left eye when struck by an abusive administrator. His story is one of a very remarkable human being. Ronnie is a incredible human being that has persisted against all odds and won. His story should be an inspiration to all of us! The show will debut on WBCQ shortwave Monticello, Maine. Most of you will find WBCQ’s coverage of the US is better that what we had on KAIJ. Will send the details in a few days! 73’s Ted (WB8PUM) Randall, Nashville TN, May 26, WORLD OF RADIO 1410, DX LISTENING DIGEST) So does this deliberately replace This Week in Amateur Radio on WBCQ, Sundays 19-20 UT? WTJC has done this before so I suspected them immediately, but on 9370 itself there was a carrier with barely detectable modulation I could not be certain was //. However, WBOH 5920 was audible, with a familiar hymn tune, and it was definitely // the blob which by 2126 was centered about 9260 spreading plus/minus 30 kHz. So much for Wadi el Nil on 9250! However, at 2129 all the 9 MHz stuff vanished as they turned off the WTJC transmitter + parasitix. It stayed off most of the half hour, but at 2200 recheck, 9370 was back on with full modulation, ID and IRN `news`, no spurs, fortunately for WINB which had also just opened on 9265. BTW, Dave Frantz of WWRB once told me that helpful people from FBN in Newport NC came over to run his previous station WGTG in McCaysville GA when he had to be away, but they stole or copied the plans for his homemade transmitter so they could build their own, which in a few years signed on as WTJC/WBOH (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. Re 8-063: Glenn, I think it was Harry Helms who also commented on years ago listening in to the marine bands. I think he and I probably heard the same stuff. Back then they didn't call it ' ute' listening. The station at Lorain, OH was WMI. Used to listen to all the weather broadcasts from there. Here, in Minnesota, in the 2 and especially the 4 MHz range, I would hear the lock & dam systems run by the Army [Corps of] Engineers. Every morning while still dark, the net control in St Louis would call the stations up and the tug captains would give their daily inventory and the crew members who had to leave the boat. Also they had to give accounts on their fuel usage. All this I heard on a 1930s Truetone, no cabinet, flying by the seat of my pants tuning. All A-M mode then. But I knew where 'the spots' were on the dial. I had a magic eye tuning on that radio. Wheeee! Down the band, around 1700 kHz or so, would hear some police and taxicabs in downtown Minneapolis. I did find info on the station including an address and email for the guy running it (Martin Foltz, Mission Viejo CA, ABDX via DXLD) I found one licensed to the Regents Of the University of California, operating from Los Angeles, CA. MW items from KS, NM, TX: see OKLAHOMA [and non] ** VENEZUELA. No dar espectáculos patéticos y nauseabundos. ¡No volverán! Some of these loggings are a few weeks old. My friends’ Internet provider was having problems, and although Internet cafés are everywhere in Vietnam and usually have 20 to 30 computers, they are always full kids playing games with others waiting in line. So I had to wait until I returned home to report my loggings. I really have nothing outstanding to report. There are even more Chinese stations than when I was in Vietnam in 2005. And, like in ’05, although I checked the listed frequencies often I was unable to hear any of the regional Vietnam stations. This may have been due to my modest equipment (Yacht Boy 400 and a 20 ft. indoor wire) or the very limited time these stations are on the air. In my earliest visits to Vietnam I heard a few of these, but broadcasts sometimes lasted only 15 minutes or so. A number of stations I had hoped to log were not heard—some of the rarer Indonesians, Radio Sedayee Kashmir, Voice of Jammu & Kashmir Freedom, and others. Radio Wantok Light was always covered by CRI. There was no sign of Radio Free Asia’s Mandarin or Korean broadcasts on MW (I was probably a long way from the transmitter sites—wherever they are), and while most of the Indian regional sites were heard, they were barely audible. During the nighttime, KHRO 1650 El Paso operating with 85 watts has a strong signal into Laredo (my location), some 510 miles away! KHRO broadcasts in English with oldies from the 50's and 60's. Occasionally, Denver's KBJD with 1000 watts fades in with Spanish religious programming from 900 miles out, and KCNZ Cedar Falls, IA with 1000 watts from 1099 miles fades in (all on my SONY SRF-59). My question is: what am I hearing in Spanish on 1650 during the daytime (this on my Sangean PR-D5 and very weakly on my SONY 7600GR)? I find no listings from Mexico on 1650, and the El Paso station, using 10,000 watts daytime is broadcasting in English, ruling it out. There is no way that the Denver station would be coming into Laredo during the daytime, and, in any case, the daytime programming that I was hearing was not religious (in fact, on Sunday, soccer was playing) in nature. Anyone know of a new Mexican station on 1650 or new Texan station? (Richard "Heatwave" Berler, May 26, ABDX via DXLD) Could be a local mixing product; have you checked all your local stations for parallel audio? Surely it IDs too if it`s a legal station (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) KHRO is 850 watts nights. Do you ever get LA's Korean or VA's Disney? Anyhow, there's nothing licenced on 1650 that could be your mystery station. Perhaps a mixing product or image and these sometimes have one audio far atop the other. Perhaps a part 15 from Laredo or similar from across the border in Nuevo Laredo. 73 KAZ (Neil Kazaross, IL, ABDX via DXLD) Thanks, Neil! I thought that what I was hearing on 1650 kHz daytime was not an image as the station was coming in on my dual conversion SONY 7600GR in addition to the SANGEAN PR-D5. We have locals (all are Spanish, regardless of if they are Laredo or Nuevo Laredo) on 790, 890, 1000, 1090, 1300, 1340, 1370, 1410, 1490, and 1550 kHz. The weak signal on 1650 turned out to be an image of the 1090 station! (Heatwave, ibid.) Richard, Just as I too suspected. But it could really be a mixing product (transmitted) rather than an image (only in the receiver), since 1090 and 1370 in Nuevo Laredo are in the same group and could very well have transmitter and antenna right next to each other or even di- or multi-plexed. Or it could be external mixing from something metal in the area. Dual conversion isn`t going to get rid of something that is really transmitted. Maybe you could go over there to take a look? BTW, perhaps these stations are worth citing by name: 1090 is listed as XEWL, 1370 is XEGNK. Could you confirm their current calls and slogans? O, I should make clear to everybody why I think it`s 1090 and 1370 mixing --- 1090 is equal distance from 1370 as 1650, 280 kHz apart, one `leapfrogging` over the other. Or another way of looking at it is the old 2B minus A formula. 73, (Glenn Hauser, OK, ibid.) Guys, It would help to know where the original poster, Richard lived. However, he would probably have to be within about 1 mile to hear any Part 15 station at night, and since 1090 and 1370 DON'T diplex, because their towers are 1 mile apart and neither is more then 5000 Watts, Richard would have a horribly crappy radio or live between the two towers or within 3 miles of the tower (Paul B. Walker, Jr., SC, ibid.) I live in Laredo, TX, perhaps 7 miles from the Nuevo Laredo transmitters. I observed the mixing product during the DAYTIME only on both a SANGEAN PR-D5, and a SONY 7600GR. In both cases, the signal was quite weak. At night, El Paso, Denver, and Cedar Falls, Iowa can be heard on 1650 with the El Paso signal dominating (El Paso is 500 miles from me). I forgot the Nuevo Laredo station on 960! We have a crowded AM dial due to Nuevo Laredo! The Laredo locals on AM consist of Spanish religion on 890 and 1300, and Spanish music format on 1490. The tight 30 and 40 kHz spacing of the Nuevo Laredo stations can make for difficult daytime reception of weak signals on nearby frequencies due to mixing products, images, and overload (Richard Berler, ibid.) At 0115, a male announcer was reciting the rosary, accompanied by male and female participants, with light music playing in the background. Strangely, at 0140, the male announcer mentioned Indiana Jones. In between, I heard him coughing several times and laughing as well. At 0152, I heard a religious musical selection in English, entitled "I Will Be Here." It ended at 0156, with clapping (a live version was obviously played) and the male announcer coughed again. It was at 0200 that I tentatively heard a female station ID as "Radio Capital, Colombia...Estados Unidos..." The program continued past 0200. Fair level with fading and static bursts. I was initially monitoring 11175 kHz for government/military communications. Then I came upon this station on 11170 kHz. Any ideas on this, Glenn? Thanks, (Ed Insinger, May 27, DX LISTENING DIGEST) Ed, Yes, a mixing product (leapfrog) of 11870 over 11520, another 350 kHz lower, from WEWN in Alabama. 11870 is Spanish, 11520 English, and the further one`s audio usually dominates in such cases. Next time see if it matches 11870 or // 5810. 11170 could happen any time between 0000 and 0600 when those two fundamentals are running. The ID you probably heard was Radio Católica Mundial, nothing to do with Capital or Colombia (Glenn to Ed, via DX LISTENING DIGEST) Thanks, Glenn. Please make a note of the date and location, mark your calendar, and ask for the day off! (This is being sent to several radio-related mailing lists--please pardon any duplication. One more message about the gathering will appear on these same lists about ten days prior to the event.) Date: Saturday, August 16, 2008 Time: 1 p.m. until whenever Location: the home of Tim and Jill Noonan and their sons, 801 E Park Blvd in Oak Creek, which is in southeastern Milwaukee County, Wisconsin Background: This is an all-band event, and anyone and everyone interested in the radio hobby is welcome. The first ten of these annual events took place in Madison, hosted either by Bill Dvorak or myself. Though I moved with my wife and sons to Oak Creek in July 2003, my commitment to the event remains, and thus the August get- togethers now alternate between venues in the Milwaukee and Madison areas. Further information: Please feel free to be in touch with me at DXing2 @ aol.com or 414 762-2702 with any questions. We’ll be glad to provide you with a detailed invitation (people on our mailing list will receive one shortly). Tell your radio friends about it, and make your plans early to join us for another fun and memorable day of visiting with your fellow radio hobbyists. 73, (Tim Noonan, Oak Creek WI, May 28, dxhub yg via DXLD) DIGITAL BROADCASTING DRM: see also BULGARIA; NEW ZEALAND ++++++++++++++++++++ IBOC: see OKLAHOMA TWO DRM INTERVIEWS Hi Glenn, With the permission of ADDX I've published an English translation of a Radio-Kurier interview with DRM's new chair Ruxandra Obreja: http://klixie.textdriven.com/26mhz/index.php?id=45 PDF files of the interview in German and English are at http://addx.de Also, the second part of an interview with Don Messer can be heard on WWCR, and is online at: http://www.wwcr.com/ask-wwcr.html (Benn Kobb, May 27, DX LISTENING DIGEST) New DRM chair wants simultaneous chicken and egg Interview with new DRM Consortium chair Ruxandra Obreja. "The success of DRM is dependent on chip availability and quality. There are several [sic] receivers on the market already. The question is to ensure enough content to make acquiring a receiver at reasonable price of real interest to listeners. So, chip availability, while crucial, is only part of a much more finely balanced business proposition."
